Chapter 1
Lo peor de todo es que me gusta.
El primer día que lo veo, pienso que es una ilusión. Es demasiado perfecto para estar en la cafetería donde suelo pasar el tiempo, tratando de escribir un capítulo decente de mi novela.
Ahí está, de pie, como si el mundo girara alrededor de su figura impecable. Javier Aranda. El Javier Aranda. Multimillonario, arrogante, y dueño de una sonrisa que podría hacerte venir las veces que quisiera.
Tiene el tipo de presencia que duele mirar. Alto, elegante, con un traje que probablemente cuesta más que mi deuda universitaria. El reloj en su muñeca no marca la hora: marca poder. El cabello oscuro, peinado hacia atrás, sin un solo mechón fuera de lugar. Y los ojos… grises, con un brillo metálico. Como si escondieran un secreto a punto de explotar.
Y lo que más me jode es lo fácil que se sienta en mi mesa. Sin preguntar. Sin pedir permiso. Como si el aire, el espacio y mi café también le pertenecieran.
—¿Te sientas sola siempre o es por mí? —dice, sonriendo como si supiera exactamente qué tecla tocar.
Yo llevo una remera desteñida, jeans que ya piden eutanasia, y el pelo recogido en un moño improvisado que grita deprimida funcional. Ni lo miro. Sorbo mi café con exageración y abro la laptop con la esperanza de que mi evidente indiferencia lo desanime.
—¿Siempre sos así de arrogante o solo cuando invades el espacio de mujeres con cara de no querer verte? —sueno, sin levantar la vista.
—Siempre —responde, y se ríe. Y su risa… tiene ese eco maldito que se te queda pegado por dentro, como una canción que odiás pero no podés dejar de tararear.
Intento ignorarlo. Juro que lo intento. Pero sigue viniendo. Cada día. Cada maldito día. A veces con bombones de países que ni sé ubicar en el mapa. A veces con libros, como si supiera exactamente qué necesito leer. Dice que “entiende a las escritoras”, que “la musa también merece café decente y palabras bonitas”. Intento ser cruel. Irónica. Pero él parece disfrutar cada intento de rechazo como si fueran piezas de un juego que ya sabe ganar.
Hasta que una tarde lo enfrento, harta.
—¿Qué buscas, Javier? No te voy a escribir un libro ni a caer rendida. No soy tu próximo capricho.
Él se queda en silencio un momento. Y cuando sonríe, es distinto. Menos pose. Más sombra.
—No quiero que escribas sobre mí. Ni que caigas rendida. Solo quiero conocerte.
Esa frase. Vacía, trillada… pero no suena así. Por primera vez, no suena como un cliché. Me atraviesa el alma. Sin que pueda evitarlo.
Y ahí empiezo a caer, sin saber que estoy cayendo. Con cada conversación. Con cada silencio compartido. Me hace reír. Me escucha como alguien que quiere guardar lo que digo en un rincón de su memoria.
Y una noche, en su ático de paredes de vidrio, con la ciudad encendida a nuestros pies, lo digo:
—No puedo enamorarme de ti.
No lo miro. No puedo. Sé que si lo hago, voy a romper la pared de indiferencia que construí para mantenerlo lejos.
Su mano roza la mía. El calor que me recorre es tan físico como emocional. Javier Aranda puede parecer de mármol por fuera, pero sus caricias son fuego líquido.
—No te estoy pidiendo que te enamores de mí —dice en voz baja—. Pero si te pasa… no voy a salir corriendo.
Me río.
Es una risa un tanto amarga, de esas que vienen del lugar donde guardo todos mis miedos.
—¿Qué sabes vos del amor? Vives en una burbuja. Yo no encajo en tu mundo, Javier.
Se acerca. Tan despacio que me estremece. Y cuando sus dedos tocan mi mejilla, me tiembla el alma.
—No se trata de mundos, ni de encajar. Se trata de ti y de mí. Solo eso.
Y entonces me besa.
Sin aviso. Sin permiso. Sin pausas.
No es un beso planeado. No es suave ni tímido.
Es un beso que rompe todas mis barreras. Un beso que me hace olvidar mis miedos, mis inseguridades. Es pasión pura, fuego. Un fuego que no sabía que necesitaba, pero que me consume por completo.
No sé en qué momento me pierdo.
Solo sé que Javier Aranda, el hombre que odio con solo mirarlo, ya encontró la forma de quedarse dentro mío.
Y no sé si eso me salva… o me hunde.
Cuando el beso termina, el universo parece quedarse sin sonido.
Mis labios todavía arden.
Mi pecho sube y baja como si acabara de correr una maratón y, por un instante, no sé si abofetearlo o besarlo de nuevo.
¿Qué carajo acaba de pasar?
Un segundo discutimos… y al siguiente tiene sus labios sobre los míos.
Y maldita sea… me gusta.
Maldición.
