Chapter 1
The night was freakin' pitch black.
Before she zonked out, Sophia Wipere could still hear those two jerks' words bouncing around in her head.
"Sophia, you should've kicked the bucket ages ago! Why's a chick gotta be so tough? If you'd ditched your power earlier, would you be in this mess?" Grant Miller sneered. And just to rub it in, he spat on the corpse again.
"Sophia, don't hate me. I just love Grant too much. Once you're gone, we'll be happy for sure." The chick's tone was all taunting, like the deceased in front of her wasn't her bestie but her worst enemy.
Sophia's rage was about to blow. She tried like hell to open her eyes, but her lids were heavy as lead, and her body felt like jelly.
'I don't wanna die. I wanna live!' Sophia finally found the strength to thrash around until she felt like she was choking.
The surrounding darkness was absolute, her vision useless as her other senses heightened.
She seemed to be lying on a soft bed when she suddenly felt a pair of large hands gripping her throat. The dude with the hands was pissed, saying, "Since you don't wanna live, I'll do the job myself."
She couldn't breathe!
This man was going to kill her! Survival instinct kicked in, making her fight back desperately, but she was too weak, no match for his strength.
Sophia's face turned red from the lack of air, and her eyes were bloodshot. 'Am I really gonna die?' she thought.
Suddenly, the door got kicked open.
At that moment, Sophia didn't care who it was; all she could manage was to stretch out her hand, eyes wide with a silent plea, "Save me."
This person didn't let her down. He grabbed the man's arm, trying to talk him down, "Mr. Percy! Let go! If you keep this up, she's gonna die!"
But the man's eyes were full of rage, and he coldly said, "She deserves to die!"
Seeing that talking wasn't working, the person's heart sank, and he dropped to his knees by the bed.
The person pleaded, "Mr. Percy! Mrs. Diana Percy's mom saved Mrs. Juniper Percy's life. If you strangle her, Mrs. Juniper Percy won't rest in peace! Plus, today's the divorce day! Please don't do anything rash!"
Hearing this, the man fell silent for a moment before finally calming down and letting go of his grip.
Perfect timing! Sophia took the chance to break free, straining to support her weakened body as she stumbled backward, her eyes filled with guarded wariness.
Seeing her like that, the man sneered, "So you're scared of dying. I'll let you off today. I'll have Nolan bring the divorce papers. Sign them and get out of my sight."
With that, the man got off the bed and stormed out.
The newcomer, who turned out to be the butler, stood up and bowed his head with a look of sympathy. "Mrs. Percy, take care of yourself."
They both left the room, leaving Sophia alone.
Sophia clutched her chest, still in shock. Her vision was still blurry, and it took a while to clear up.
"Where am I? Who are these people?" Sophia murmured.
She finally had time to think, then she realized there was a chunk of memory in her head that wasn't hers.
Sophia was actually dead. To be precise, she'd been reborn in someone else's body.
The owner of this body was named Diana Spencer, and the guy who just tried to strangle her was her husband, Charles Percy.
Diana had a tough break, losing her mom, Bianca Spencer, at a young age. To make matters worse, her dad, Nathan Williams, was a real deadbeat. By the way, Diana went by her mother's last name.
She was a socialite, but she was head over heels for Charles. The more Charles despised her, the harder she tried to win him over.Today was their wedding anniversary, and also the day their sham marriage was supposed to end.
They could've had an amicable breakup, but Charles strangled Diana instead. Diana was truly blinded by love.
Now, Sophia, having been reborn in Diana's body, knew she must seek vengeance for her. She silently vowed that Diana wouldn't die in vain. From now on, Sophia was Diana, and she would live well for her.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Mrs. Percy, you in there?"
Diana was about to answer when she realized she wasn't wearing a stitch. Her skin, exposed to the air, was covered in suspicious red marks, and her body ached all over.
She recalled that last night, the old Diana had felt unusually drowsy for some reason and had somehow wandered into Charles's room—a place she was strictly forbidden to enter.
Just as she was about to leave, a strong hand had grabbed her, pulling her back. Before she could resist, her limbs were restrained, and her clothes were torn off with no regard for delicacy. The old Diana had no way to fight back.
In the darkness, the man's scorching body pressed against hers, their bodies fitting together tightly. His rock-hard abs and the bulge straining against his pants pressed against her abdomen.
With little foreplay, the old Diana felt a sudden chill as her underwear was torn away, and something rigid and unyielding pressed against her. Then, he thrust inside!
The sudden pain was almost unbearable, and she bit her lip to stifle a scream. The man seemed to be exhilarated by the obstruction, quickening his pace. The brutal actions continued relentlessly, again and again.
The following morning, when he awoke to find Diana beside him, he assumed she had drugged him to climb into his bed.
Diana took a sharp breath and cursed under her breath.
Nolan Smith, Charles's secretary, at the door seemed a bit impatient and urged, "Mrs. Percy, it's Nolan. You can't hide. If you don't open up, I'll go get the butler."
"Wait! Five minutes!" Diana's voice was still shaky, sounding pitiful.
But Nolan, all business, looked at his watch and decided that if she didn't come out by then, he'd bust in.
But before five minutes were up, the door creaked open.
In front of him, Diana's hair was a mess, and her face was pale. She was wearing men's trousers and a shirt, with the pant legs rolled up because they were too long.
There were no women's clothes in the room, and Diana's clothes had been shredded. She had no choice but to grab a set of Charles's clothes from the closet.
Seeing Diana in such a state, Nolan's expression didn't change. He just handed over the documents and said coldly, "Mrs. Percy, these are the divorce papers. Please sign them. Also, Mr. Percy wants you to leave."
His words hinted that if she dared to make trouble, he wouldn't hesitate to be rude.
Diana didn't say a word, just took the documents, flipped to the last page, and signed her current name, "Diana Spencer." She wrote quickly but elegantly.
Nolan was somewhat surprised by her straightforwardness. Having followed Charles for so many years, he knew what kind of person Diana was. He had braced himself for a fight, but the matter was resolved so quickly.
"Alright, anything else?" Diana asked, raising an eyebrow.
Nolan slowly took the documents back, reminding her, "Aren't you going to look over the terms of the agreement?"
Diana raised an eyebrow and replied, "Is there any point?"
Although the Percy Family was loaded, thinking of Charles's brutal nature, Diana was sure she wouldn't get any benefits. The agreement might even stick her with some debts.
Seeing Nolan frown slightly, Diana continued, "Would looking at it change the fact that I have to get divorced? Or does the agreement say I'll lose my family fortune? Whatever the outcome, it's not something I can control, is it?"
Hearing this, Nolan's eyes darkened as he took the divorce papers. "Ms. Spencer, Mr. Percy just wants you to leave with nothing."
This result was not bad for her. Diana sincerely said, "Oh, shoud I thank him?"
Nolan glanced at the red marks on Diana's neck. "Ms. Spencer, do you need me to call a doctor for you?"
Diana noticed Nolan's gaze on her neck and remembered the near-death experience of being strangled by Charles.
She shook her head. "No need." Staying here was more dangerous than treating her injuries.
Nolan said, "Then please pack your things quickly, Ms. Spencer."
Diana didn't dawdle, following the original Diana's memory back to her own room.
Her room was a converted storage room. It was quite laughable. She was glamorous outside, but at home, she didn't even have her own room.
Charles hated Diana so much that he ordered her room to be arranged far away.
Diana's room was very small, with just a bed and a table, making it very cramped. Under such difficult conditions, there were naturally no decent clothes.
So she quickly packed up, changing out of the ill-fitting men's clothes.
Despite her aching body, Diana grabbed her luggage, feeling a sense of relief as she prepared to leave. She would never have to see Charles again.
Just then, a sharp voice rang out behind her, "Diana, where do you think you're going?"
