Grudges

Kyle's POV

I absolutely don't appreciate the way the men are staring at my wife. I mean, I get it but no. I was seriously considering turning the car around this time but I'm supposed to be a strong Alpha, not a jealous one that can't control his cock around his wife.

Even with our masks on, my wife still managed to steal the show. They didn't even need to see her face in full to understand why she was at my side. She was smiling gracefully and waving like an actress.

If I wasn't with her, I would've never suspected that this was the last place she wanted to be. I didn't even know when I smiled. Since when did I ever do that? This woman had me wrapped around her finger and she didn't even know it.

Such a good little wife. If she lets me, I'll reward her later.

We were inside a large hall with no ceiling so we could see the moon firsthand. It was a glorious ceremony that happened every once in a while, so I used the opportunity to introduce my wife to the pack officially.

The lunar eclipse masquerade is an event that occurs during the lunar eclipse, where the moon disappears and we try to appease it to come back. That's why we are in a building with lights when we enter complete darkness. We wait until it appears again, but we perform rituals.

It's been a tradition since I was little.

Anyway, I took my wife to the front of the event so we could address our pack members and make announcements. She was graceful and obedient, smiling as she followed me in her crystal dress.

When we got in front I immediately introduced her.

“Hello everyone. I'm glad we've all been able to make it to this event and I hope we have a great time. I also want you all to meet this woman. She's the most beautiful woman I've ever met, so I married her instantly.” I said with a genuine smile because.

They all cheered for us and laughed. It was truly exciting, even though we were all wearing masks.

The ceremony commenced immediately as we watched the moon hide and disappear slowly in awe. Soon, total darkness consumed us, but the artificial lighting served. Soon the rituals began.

The night is very sacred, so we expected ancient spirits to whisper through the shadows, to tell us what to do. The moon hiding awakens them momentarily and they infiltrate our minds and give advice.

It's always been fascinating because when they come to us as a collective, they tell us how to appease the moon and what it wants differently this time.

The wind howled harshly, the cold intensifying. My wife shuddered a bit, so I removed my jacket and wore it over her dress like a perfect gentleman as we awaited the coming of the ancient spirits.

She didn't complain or even move, she just let me like a robot so much that it seemed unnatural. Okay now I was going to freak out. Is this how she plans to shut me out?

I let her be and soon, we were all instructed to close our eyes shut. It was a collective thing and everyone had to be involved so even if one person had their eyes open, it would chase away all the spirits.

The spirits infiltrated our minds and couldn't be seen with our naked eyes but it was still best to close our eyes shut to gain a deeper connection with them.

After waiting, they began to manifest, and we all felt them hover around us and whisper the instructions. It was a very incredible moment where we all felt rejuvenated.

Soon, the message became clear. What we had to do to appease the moon was very interesting. We opened our eyes finally, the ancient spirits long gone.

It's a night of cleansing, and old grudges have to be settled for the moon to come back.

I couldn't believe it for obvious reasons. Holding grudges were part of life but somehow we had to get rid of them so the moon will appear again?

In all my many years of witnessing this tradition, this has to be the hardest because surely, everyone had scores to settle with someone else.

Why will the moon play us like that? I glanced at my wife and she was looking ahead, clearly bored but with a tiny smile playing on her lips. She hated me.

Considering what I've done to my wife, she'll never forgive me. Now I was truly beginning to regret every harsh method I used on her because now it was clear that the moon will probably never come out again, just because of her grudge alone and I won't even blame her.

I felt even worse because suddenly I wanted her forgiveness to appease the moon and not because I truly needed it?

I'm full of shit. That I am. Single Handedly, I've caused the appeasement to fall through before it even began.

I took the stage anyway as the alpha king. I had to do something, to hope for a miracle.

“We've all heard from the ancient spirits. This won't be our first rodeo, we just have to get through it. I hope we all find it somewhere in our hearts to forgive one another and let go of the grudges that have darkened our hearts to enable true cleansing.”

I glanced at my wife faster than I could reason, and she was just standing still. I wondered what was running through her mind, the many ways she had won and all the promises I was about to make just so she would let go of her grudges. I continued on.

“The moon won't come out without it, and we've already gone a while without the moon so we don't want that to run for much longer. As the alpha, this is me begging and pleading. Take time to discuss with who you've offended and who has offended you and come to an agreement. We'll be waiting until we see the change. Good luck to all of us!”

Surely, we did wait. It was quiet, strict and meditative as people began to slowly trash out their issues.

Of course, I approached my wife so we could talk but she immediately shifted like I was some sort of plague.

“It's clear what you want. Maybe you shouldn't have hurt me like that, or don't you think?” Her brows lifted as she batted her lashes at me in mockery. She knew she now had the upper hand.

She was being cute with me as she pouted. I forgot to even get angry, I just wanted to pin her to the nearest wall and kiss her hard, her lips as distracting as ever.
