Chapter 6

Kelly

The pain in my head was the first thing I felt. It was as if someone had taken a sledgehammer to my skull. The world around me was a blur, but I could still make out the sharp lines of white hospital walls. I blinked slowly, struggling to focus. My vision cleared just enough to see Adrian sitting beside me, his eyes dark with worry.

“Kelly, you’re awake,” he said, his voice tight, trying to mask the concern.

I couldn’t make sense of anything. I was groggy, disoriented.

“What happened?” I whispered, my voice raw, every word feeling like it took all the strength I had.

“You fainted. I rushed you here. You’ve been out for a while,” Adrian explained, his hand instinctively brushing the hair from my face.

I nodded slowly, trying to piece together the fragments of my thoughts.

“That woman over there,” Adrian continued, motioning to the woman standing by the window, “she’s my sister, Olivia. I called her to stay with you, incase you wake up while I'm out”

Olivia smiled faintly at me, but her presence felt like a blur, I had a lot on my mind.

I tried to sit up, my chest tight, the reality of the situation crashing over me all at once.

“Was I diagnosed with anything?” I asked, hoping the answer would be something not too serious, something I could brush off.

But Adrian hesitated. That pause—unwarranted, long enough to make my stomach churn—was all I needed to know something wasn’t right.

“The doctor said... you’re pregnant. Five weeks along.”

Pregnant?

The word hit me like a blow to the chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t process it. Pregnant? There was no way. This couldn’t be happening to me. Not after everything I’d been through.

Anderson wouldn't even care. He’s likely to deny our child. The thought was a knife to my heart, cold and unforgiving. He doesn't want me, he wouldn't want our child.

But I had no choice now.

“I... I need to leave,” I whispered, trying to stand, but the dizziness swept over me, threatening to bring me to my knees.

Adrian caught me by the shoulders, his grip firm but gentle.

“Kelly, you can’t leave like this. You need rest. You know what the doctor said. If you stress yourself too much—”

“Don’t worry about me,” I interrupted, my voice hardening with the force of my emotions. “I have to go. There's something I need to do”

Adrian let out a frustrated sigh but didn’t stop me.

“Where are you going?” he asked, but I had already grabbed my bag and started walking toward the door.

“I’ll handle it,” I said, not meeting his eyes.

I needed to do this. There was something in me that told me if I didn’t act now, I would lose myself.

The moment I stepped outside, I breathed in the cool air, hoping it would clear my mind. But nothing helped. My body felt heavy, burdened by a future I hadn’t planned for, by a life I couldn’t even begin to imagine.

I stopped a taxi, gave the driver the address, and sat in silence as the city whizzed by. I thought of Aiden, and how his life was about to change.

But something inside me cracked when I arrived.

As I stood in front of the house, the same place that had once felt like home, I realized I didn’t belong here anymore. Have been a stranger in my own home.

I forced myself to walk inside.

But the first thing that hit me was the smell of perfume—sweet and heavy in the air. The house felt wrong, disorganized. It was quiet and still.

And then I saw it. Clothes scattered across the living room, a trail of shoes leading up the stairs. Something in me told me to turn around, to leave and never come back. But I couldn’t.

I walked up the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest, my body heavy with dread. I knew what I was about to see.

And there they were. Anderson and Kate.

They body glued together. He was kissing her. They didn’t even stop when they saw me.

I stood frozen, the world crumbling around me. This was it. This was my breaking point. They had no shame, no remorse. Anderson, my husband, the father of my son—was with my sister, someone I call my twin sister. Is she even my twin sister?

My legs gave way, and I stumbled, catching myself on the railing. It wasn’t just the sight of them that hurt—it was the complete lack of care in their eyes. They didn’t even blink. Like as though I was interrupting them.

I couldn’t look at them anymore. I turned and fled downstairs, but Anderson was faster, he ran out fast and held me by the wrist.

“What are you doing here?” His voice was cold, flat. “Told you never to come back here!!”

I wanted to scream, to curse him out but I couldn’t.

Tears pricked my eyes, but I wouldn’t let them fall.

“Bastard!” I spat, shaking with fury. “How dare you do this to me? To Aiden?”

Anderson’s expression didn’t change. He didn’t seem to care, didn’t even acknowledge the weight of what he’d done.

“You... you ungrateful jerk!” I screamed. “I gave up everything for you, and this is what you do? You cheat on me with my twin-sister?

And then it hit me—the tears I had been holding back, the fury, the helplessness. I pressed my hand to my stomach, feeling the weight of the life inside me.

“For Aiden’s sake, just because of him I won’t burn this house down. But my child…” I looked Anderson in the eye, daring him to meet my gaze. “You’ll never see his/her face. And the both of you? You will pay for this. For everything you’ve done to me, I promise you, your evil deeds will haunt you forever”

Anderson’s face was blank. He didn’t understand the weight of my words.

Kate stood up, her expression mocking.

“You think you can scare us with that? You’re nothing but a stupid bitch. And by the way, I’m pregnant with Anderson’s child. Jokes on you”

My chest tightened at her words, the cruelty of them.

“Kate, how could you do this to me, why do you hate me so much? How could you do this to someone you call your twin sister?”

Her lips curled into a cruel smile, her eyes cold and dismissive. She walked closer to me.

“I’ve never seen you as a sister, Kelly. Not even once”

Not even once? I took a deep breath, holding back the tears.

I met his eyes with all the strength I could muster.

“I’m here for the divorce papers.”

His eyes flickered, as if he couldn't process what he heard. He stood up, walked upto the coffee table and handed me the papers.

I signed them without hesitation.

Before I left, I turned to Anderson one last time. “Fuck you,” I whispered, the words carrying the weight of everything I had been trying to hold in.
