Chapter 9 I'm Not an Old Fool
Melanie lowered her head and thought for a moment before saying, "How about you learn from the villains in the novels and pretend to be mean? Then, I can pretend to be Jayden's fiancee and work with you to force the Baldwin family to call off the wedding."
"No way!"
Madam Griffiths looked at Melanie with a frown. "I may be old, but I'm not an old fool!"
"You're my grand god-daughter and Jayden's godsister. What fiancee? That's nonsense! Even if you're only acting, you can't mess around like this!"
Melanie pursed her lips and clutched her thigh with her fingers. "Sorry, it was a slip of the tongue."
"Well, Jayden can handle it himself. Let's not worry about it."
Madam Griffiths looked at Melanie and said, "You have many connections. Why don't you help me find that girl when you have the time? It's too slow to rely on Steven alone."
"Okay." Melanie nodded, took out her phone, dialed a number, and walked out of the ward.
"Robert, help me find someone. This morning, on the way to Sancoast Road..."
Looking at Melanie's back as she left, Madam Griffiths nodded with relief.
She believed that with Melanie's help, she would soon find her beloved future granddaughter-in-law.
Melanie closed the door and walked to the end of the corridor.
"Miss Robinson, why did you stop talking?"
Melanie looked behind her and said with a gloomy face, "Nothing. You don't have to do anything now. I remembered wrongly."
Hanging up the phone, Melanie narrowed her eyes and looked upset.
......
That afternoon, Madam Griffiths left the courtyard and returned to Orchid Villa.
When Mr. Fletcher heard that Madam Griffiths was returning home, he immediately put down his work on hand and hurried to welcome her.
He wanted to tell Madam Griffiths what happened that morning and let her know that there was hope for Jayden's illness.
"Madam!" Mr. Fletcher excitedly walked up to Madam Griffiths. "You're finally back! Did you hear? This morning, Mrs. Griffiths-"
"What Mrs. Griffiths?"
Madam Griffiths frowned and interrupted him. "The marriage between the two of them has not been finalized! Fetch me Miss Baldwin. I have something to tell her."
"But, today, Miss Baldwin-"
"Mr. Fletcher." This time, Melanie interrupted Mr. Fletcher. "Grandma wants to see Miss Baldwin. Summon her here first."
Mr. Fletcher looked at Melanie and thought that the latter had probably already told Madam Griffiths about what had happened in the morning, so he did not hesitate anymore.
"Okay, I'll go and get her."
After that, Mr. Fletcher went straight to the room and knocked on the door. "Miss Baldwin, Madam Griffiths wants to see you."
Mabel was sitting on the sofa, reading a book. Hearing this, she put down the book and got up.
When she opened the door, she nodded gently at Mr. Fletcher and followed him into the hall.
"Mr. Fletcher, has Mr. Griffiths' illness been acting up recently?"
Mr. Fletcher sighed and said, "Yes, it has been acting up frequently nowadays. At least twice a week. Every time it happens, Mr. Griffiths would be in extreme pain."
After that, he looked at Mabel with hope. "Miss Baldwin, do you have a way to treat his illness?"
Mabel frowned slightly and said with a serious look, "His treatment can't be delayed any longer. I can only try my best, but I need him to cooperate."
Mr. Fletcher nodded thoughtfully.
He hoped that Jayden would listen to Mabel and cooperate with her for the treatment.
When she arrived at the hall, Mabel saw an imposing older lady sitting on the sofa from a distance with her facing her.
There was a dead silence in the hall. Obviously, they were all intimidated by the older woman's aura.
Mabel frowned slightly and thought that the older woman looked a little familiar.
Melanie glanced at Mabel and served a plate of cut apples in front of Madam Griffiths. "Grandma, please have some apples."
"There's no need." Madam Griffiths deliberately lowered her voice to exert dominance.
Melanie's lips curled into a smile, as if she had just noticed Mabel's arrival. "Miss Baldwin, did you rest well? Have you gotten used to the house?"
Melanie sounded like she was the hostess.
Mabel raised her eyes and glanced at Melanie. "It was not bad."
After that, she turned to look at Madam Griffiths. It was obvious that the latter did not welcome her.
Mabel pursed her lips and said softly, "Nice to meet you, Madam Griffiths. My name is Mabel Baldwin."
When Madam Griffiths heard Mabel's voice, she became stunned for a moment.
It was the voice she had heard when she was unconscious.
