Chapter 15 The Ring That Could Complete Her Life
A hint of cruelty flashed through Mabel's eyes.
It was Camila again!
She curled her lips coldly, and the chilliness in her eyes grew stronger. "Great. Then I'll settle it with her."
"Stop right there!" Victoria grabbed hold of her. "She's your sister! I've already given her the thing, you can't want it back! Talk about a petty elder sister!"
Mabel laughed at herself.
To Victoria it might just be another dispensable thumb ring, but to her the ring could complete her life.
Mabel had long been used to her family's indifference and neglect, but what's to stop her from still feeling a bone-chilling cold in her heart?
"You better watch over your precious daughter with your life."
The inhumane voice with which Mabel used to warn Victoria made her tremble. "What do you mean?"
Ignoring her, Mabel pushed the door open and walked straight into the living room.
In the living room, Camila was setting down a fruit platter in front of Jayden.
As she bent over, the thumb ring hanging around her neck fell out of her collar.
Mabel stopped in her tracks and stared at the thumb ring, clenching her hands into fists.
The incident from five years ago flashed in front of her eyes.
Her mother's merciless neglect, her sister's vicious schemes, and her dead child.
And the night when the strange man kept invading her again and again, never knowing when to stop.
Mabel's face sank as hatred spread in her eyes.
The moment Jayden looked up, he saw the thumb ring on Camila's neck. His hand moved quicker than his thinking as he tugged it from her neck.
"Jayden..." Camila looked at him in surprise.
He fixed his gaze on the thumb ring and gently caressed it.
"Who gave you this ring?"
Camila was stunned.
She had taken the thumb ring from Mabel, but the look on his face told her that he recognized the ring.
Could it be that the thumb ring was his?
Impossible!
Back then, in order to destroy Mabel, she had arranged for an old man in his sixties.
It was after that night that thumb ring had appeared on Mabel.
Therefore, it was near to impossible for it to belong to Jayden!
However, since he was interested in this thumb ring, she could take this opportunity to approach him.
Looking at his handsome face, Camila was starting to regret her decision.
This man should have been hers!
Now that Mabel had taken him away, she had to reclaim him!
"I'm going to ask you one last time: Where did you get the thumb ring?" Jayden had run out of patience and his tone was sinister.
Mabel stood at the corner and looked at Jayden with a frown.
His reaction to the ring was extreme. Was he the owner of the thumb ring, the man from that night?
Mabel did not take another step forward.
She had to wait and see.
Camila took a deep breath and decided to give an ambiguous answer: "This thumb ring was given to me by a very important person."
Jayden narrowed his eyes and stared at the ring.
He could not be wrong. This thumb ring was the token he'd given to that woman five years ago!
He'd thought that she would've come to him with the thumb ring.
Unexpectedly, she'd suddenly vanished from the world. Even the surveillance video from that night had been deleted, leaving no trace. Not even the top hacker in the world could recover it.
Later, he'd finally found her, but she had passed away during a complication in childbirth.
But he had always refused to believe it.
He didn't believe that the girl who'd cried and begged for mercy under him and brought him extreme pleasure was dead.
Jayden stared at Camila thoughtfully. "Who is that person?"
Camila nervously dropped her eyes and stammered, "I don't remember. I was sick and forgot a lot of things. I only remember that this thumb ring is very important to me. Do you happen to recognize this thumb ring?"
Jayden clenched his fists in an attempt to contain himself.
He was sure now that the girl was not dead. He had found the wrong person.
But was Camila really the girl?
"Jayden." Camila said cautiously, "Is… is this your thumb ring?"
With her heart in her throat, Mabel was nervously waiting for his answer.
She, too, wanted to know if he was the owner of this thumb ring!
