Chapter 10 Dearest Granddaughter-In-Law

Madam Griffiths turned around and, to her astonishment, saw Mabel. That made her wonder why her dearest granddaughter-in-law would be standing in front of her.

"Am I… dreaming?" she muttered under her breath.

If Madam Griffiths was surprised, so was Mabel.

Never would she have expected that Madam Griffiths was actually the elderly woman she'd saved this morning.

Almost springing to her feet, Madam Griffiths no longer looked austere as she rushed over to grab Mabel's hand.

She'd been scrutinizing her for a long time before managing to say, "You... Are you Mabel Baldwin?"

To which Mabel nodded gently. "I am."

"That's great!" Madam Griffiths grasped her hand. Words were not enough to convey her excitement.

Melanie looked at the scene in front of her in shock. As she thought of what had happened today, her face suddenly darkened.

Was Mabel Baldwin the one who'd saved Madam Griffiths? Speculations rattled in her mind.

How was that possible?

How could there be such a coincidence in the world?

In contrast to the excitement of Madam Griffiths, Mabel remained calm.

"Madam, you've already been discharged from the hospital? Have you gotten all better?"

"I'm fine. You see, ailments come with age."

Still holding her hand, Madam Griffiths warmly sat her down on the sofa. "I couldn't wait to come back when I heard that Jayden's married a beautiful wife. Lo and behold, it turns out to be you Mabel! It must have been fate!"

Melanie had had it up to her eyeballs.

Because that was not what the old lady had said just a minute ago!

Madam Griffiths was gripped by excitement and couldn't stop smiling, as though she had gone back to her childhood days.

Happiness paid her a sudden visit, and she would have got up and danced if the situation permitted.

Her elation gave way to seriousness when a thought sprung up in her mind. "Mabel, has Jayden ever given you a hard time?"

Her completely different attitude surprised Mabel for a short moment, but only for a short moment.

She shook her head gently. "No, he hasn't at all."

Only then did Madam Griffiths let out a sigh of relief. "As he shouldn't. Don't worry. With my support, I promise I won't let that brat bully you!"

Mabel smiled and said, "Thank you, Madam."

"Silly you. It's not 'Madam', it's 'Grandma'." Seeing Mabel's fair and tender appearance, she was even more satisfied.

"Mabel, you should treat this place as your own in the future. Don't feel restrained."

Mabel knew that she meant good, and felt warm in her heart. She nodded gently. "I'll do that."

Madam Griffiths patted her hand lovingly and turned to look at Melanie. "Melanie, where is Mabel's room?"

Melanie forced a smile and said, "Miss Baldwin lives in the guest room, Grandma."

That did not sit well with Madam Griffiths. "Melanie, Mabel is your sister-in-law. Do you not understand a rule this simple?"

Melanie clenched her fists tightly, lowered her eyes to hide the resistance in them, and whispered, "I do, Grandma."

Only then did Madam Griffiths nod and add, "Send for a servant to take your sister-in-law's belongings to Jayden's room. They are already married, they can't sleep in separate rooms, can they?"

Melanie's face stiffened as she lowered her voice: "Grandma, Jayden can't stand being close to women. Would you like to ask for his permission first?"

"There's no need for all that." Madam Griffiths waved her hand. "If he has any objections, he may take it up with me."

Melanie looked down and mouthed a soft "I understand". Then she asked Mr. Fletcher to deal with it.

In fact, Mabel was as resistant as Jayden was, but Madam Griffiths was so enthusiastic she did not know what to do but frown in embarrassment. "Grandma, I—"

"Mabel, I know you're a girl, and girls are usually shy when it comes to this. Please don't mind me."

Madam Griffiths smiled and said, "My husband and I were part of an arranged marriage, too. We met for the first time on our wedding night, but our relationship was still harmonious, and we were deeply in love..."

Mabel was afraid that the old lady would be engrossed in her "once upon a time" saga again, so she had to nod. "Grandma, why don't I go pack up my things first."

"Okay, off you go!" Madam Griffiths looked at Mabel's retreating back with a smile and took out her phone. "Time to tell my BFFs the good news!"

......

Returning to the guest room, Mabel surveyed the luxurious room and took a deep breath.

At present, it seemed that she had successfully secured her place here.

The phone suddenly vibrated. It was a video call from a cringy and tacky Whatsapp icon.

Mabel had no sooner swiped to answer the call than a devilishly good-looking face appeared on the screen.

The man was about twenty-five or -six years old, with a pair of long almond eyes. If the word "sensual" had a human form, it would be him.

"What's up, Mabel, how are you doing in the Griffiths family?"
