Chapter 7: Awkward Brothers

One moment, you’re mocking your classmate’s father for being a homeless man; the next moment, your classmate turns out to be your brother, and that homeless man is your father. Could anything be more shocking than this?

At this moment, Peggy was urged to rush home and confront his father. Had he been a homeless man? Had he been with another woman?

But Peggy held himself back. He quickly took out his phone and typed out a message.

Peggy: “Until we get to the bottom of this, no one is allowed to spread the news!”

After sending the message, he shot a warning look at his classmates.

The classmates nodded. Although many of their families were wealthy, Peggy’s family belonged to the top tier of financial powerhouses. No one wanted to cross this formidable existence.

Ian’s mind was in chaos. A moment ago, he had been resenting his mother for choosing a homeless man. Still, now, everything had flipped—the so-called homeless man was actually from a top-tier elite family!

The most awkward part was that Ian had no idea how to face Peggy. His classmate had suddenly become his brother—this was beyond uncomfortable.

Just then, Ian’s phone vibrated with a new message from Peggy.

Peggy: “Does anyone’s family have access to a DNA testing lab? Our family does, but I don’t want our father to know I’m investigating him.”

Colin: “My family does. I can help.”

A young man with brown hair and slightly tanned skin smiled. This was Colin Gibbs, another student from a wealthy business family. He had always been intrigued by confidential matters like this and was eager to see whether the shocking revelation was true.

Peggy: “Ian, bring some of your father’s hair or another DNA sample tomorrow. I’ll bring mine. We need to do a test.”

Ian: “OK.”

After sending the message, Ian felt a weight settle in his chest. If Neal turned out to be his father, how would he face his new father and his newfound brother, Peggy?

He looked at Jennifer again, wondering if she would see anything else.

But Jennifer had already shifted her focus back to her textbook.

“I’ve already seen the secrets and futures of two people today. That’s enough for now. But these two are weird—they both end up dead. Including me, that makes three of us. Why are we so unlucky?”

Jennifer silently complained in her heart.

The homeroom teacher, John, glanced at his watch. Class was almost over. After being entirely stunned by Jennifer’s abilities today, he had lost all motivation to continue teaching.

“There isn’t much time left. Just read your books and study on your own,” John said.

Holding a book in his hands, he sat down in his chair. While the book covered his face, his eyes discreetly studied Jennifer.

“I’m curious too. What does my future look like?”

John felt an itch in his heart, like a cat scratching at his curiosity. Few people could resist such temptation. He didn’t expect Jennifer to tell him lottery numbers, but he could take precautions to avoid a tragic fate if his future were as disastrous as David’s and Ian’s.

At that moment, none of the students had the mind to study. They were all exchanging messages on their phones.

Euphemia: “Guys, I think Jennifer’s ability could be useful for us.”

Pran: “Then why don’t we just ask her directly? That way, we’ll know in advance!”

Some students began to feel tempted. No one could resist such an opportunity. They weren’t worried about Jennifer refusing—they were rich. They could buy the information!

Carl frowned. He had a bad feeling about this. If the students told Jennifer they could hear her thoughts, she would most likely refuse to help them.

Carl: “I strongly suggest you don’t do that. I haven’t known my sister for long, but she’s extremely insecure. She won’t sell information for money. If she finds out, her first reaction will be to run away!”

Carl’s words made the restless students hesitate.

Adam: “I think Carl is right. My uncle is a psychologist, and he once said that people who like to pry into others’ secrets usually feel insecure. They use this as a way to judge those around them. If Jennifer finds out we can hear her thoughts, she’ll suspect we might sell her to the government or some spy organization. She’ll run for sure.”

Adam’s message made everyone think deeply. They realized he made a valid point.

Meanwhile, sitting next to Jennifer, Sheila was secretly glancing at her phone. After thinking for a moment, she quickly typed and sent a message.

Sheila: “If you want to know your future, it’s quite simple. You need to attract Jennifer’s attention. Once she notices you, she’ll look at your future naturally.”

David: “Sheila is right. But friendly reminder—ensure you have no weird secrets.”

Rachel: “So, David, are you finally admitting to the bedsheet incident? (smirk)”

David’s hands trembled. He knew he shouldn’t have commented.

Luckily, the school bell rang just in time, and everyone’s attention shifted, allowing David to escape further embarrassment.

“Class dismissed. David, come with me for a moment,” John called out as he walked toward his office.

Jennifer watched David’s retreating figure and smirked inwardly.

“Mr. John will probably warn David not to mess with me. Hmph, I’m not afraid. If he tries anything, I’ll expose his secrets!”

The students all heard Jennifer’s inner monologue and couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for David.

David entered the teacher’s office, and John pulled a few books from his drawer and handed them to him.

“These belonged to a friend of mine who was a narcotics officer. They’re books on drug rehabilitation. They might be useful to you.”

David’s lips twitched as he read the titles:

The Dangers of Drugs, Types of Narcotics, Overcoming Addiction with Willpower… and… Swimsuit Model Magazine.

David stared at the last book's cover, which featured a seductive bikini model.

John quickly snatched it back, his face slightly flushed.

“This one’s mine. Just read the others,” he said awkwardly.

David rolled his eyes and handed the books back.

“Mr. John, none of that has happened yet! And it never will!” he said firmly before leaving the office.

As soon as he stepped out, he pulled out his phone and began searching:

“How to become a narcotics officer?”

David was deeply engrossed when he suddenly bumped into someone.

Looking up, his eyes lit up with joy.

“Madonna! Are you here to see me?”

But just as he finished speaking, he suddenly remembered his future.

His smile vanished instantly.
