Chapter 6: It Was a Rainy Night
Ian never expected Jennifer to reveal his secret, and what was even more shocking was that he had no idea about it!
David patted Ian on the shoulder.
Ian could sense it—this bastard’s left eye was filled with sympathy, while his right eye gloated.
‘Out of everyone in the class, why did she have to see my secret?’
Ian felt a bit frustrated.
Jennifer’s inner thoughts once again echoed in the minds of their classmates.
‘I originally thought anyone sitting with David couldn’t be a good person. But I didn’t expect this guy to be even more pitiful than David! His future is way too tragic.’
Ian felt so aggrieved that he almost coughed up blood. He never imagined that that bastard David was dragging him down!
‘Who said that just because I sit next to a bastard, I must be one too? I’m a good person!’
Ian complained internally. But he was also curious—what kind of future had Jennifer seen that made her say he was worse off than David?
#Ian Crane always thought he lived in a harmonious family. However, he was unaware that his father had numerous women outside the family and many unknown half-siblings. After his mother passed away, his father finally revealed his true nature and brought those women into their home, which Ian vehemently opposed.
Ian’s father, Cornet Crane, looked at his many illegitimate children and mistresses, then at Ian. In the end, he kicked Ian out of the house. The poor Ian lost all his wealth and had no idea how to survive. Eventually, he started working as a street cleaner through a friend’s introduction. However, his half-siblings deliberately made things difficult for him, throwing trash onto the areas he had just cleaned, causing him to lose his job.
Ian then became an apprentice at a bakery, but his half-siblings left terrible reviews, leading to his dismissal.
Ian tried learning car repair, but his half-siblings falsely accused him of stealing car parts, and he was fired.
Ian attempted selling insurance, but his half-siblings stole his insurance policies, leaving him unemployed again.
In the end, Ian became homeless. He succeeded in that. On Christmas Eve, he froze to death.#
Ian was utterly stunned.
David looked at him with pity and pulled a crumpled bill from his pocket, shoving it into Ian’s hands.
“Here, buddy. Buy yourself a coat. Freezing to death on Christmas Eve is too tragic—even God would shed a tear.”
Ian stared at the money in his hands, nearly bursting into tears from anger. What grudge did he have with his father’s illegitimate children that they had to sabotage him in everything he did?
Just then, his phone vibrated. He glanced at it—it was filled with messages from his classmates. Some were even sending him a map of the nearest homeless shelter.
Ian twitched the corners of his mouth and quickly typed a message on his phone.
Ian: [Trust me, I will change my future!]
Peggy: [You’re already doing better than David. He still refuses to acknowledge his fate.]
David stared at the message, a giant question mark forming. Weren’t they talking about Ian? Why was he being dragged into this?
Rachel: [But Ian, your dad is something. Just how many siblings do you have?]
Ian twitched his lips. How would he know how many illegitimate children his father had? He didn’t even know his father had been cheating.
‘Wait a minute, what about my future after I die? Why could they see David’s future beyond death but not mine?’
Ian secretly glanced at Jennifer.
On the other hand, Jennifer was staring at the top of Ian’s head with a look of surprise.
Ian quickly lowered his head to avoid being noticed by her.
In truth, Ian’s future did not end there.
#After Ian’s death, the police notified his family to claim the body. However, neither his father nor his half-siblings showed up. In the end, it was his aunt from overseas who came to retrieve him.
While sorting through Ian and his mother Martha’s belongings, his aunt unexpectedly discovered Martha’s electronic diary. In it, Ian’s aunt uncovered the shocking truth about Ian’s origins.
It turned out that Ian’s father had azoospermia and was completely infertile. Martha knew about this, and when she discovered Cornet’s numerous affairs, she became utterly disheartened. Out of spite, she decided to take revenge. On a rainy night, she slept with a homeless man. Not long after, she became pregnant. #
Ian was utterly dazed upon hearing this.
If his father had azoospermia, then where did all his supposed half-siblings come from?
Meanwhile, the class group chat had erupted into a heated discussion.
Mike: [At first, I thought his dad was fertile. But now, something doesn’t add up.]
Adam: [The amount of information here is overwhelming. Let me process this.]
Colin: [It’s pretty apparent—Ian’s father never knew that all his women had cheated on him. None of those kids are his. What a poor man!]
Peggy: [Wait, you guys aren’t focusing on the right thing. Ian’s biological father was a homeless man, and he ended up becoming a homeless man too. Does this count as inheriting his father’s profession?]
Peggy sat diagonally behind Ian, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably. He tried to hold back laughter, but his voice still reached Ian’s ears.
Ian turned his head and shot Peggy a resentful glare.
Meanwhile, his other classmates looked at him with sympathy and astonishment.
But Ian’s future was still not over. Jennifer’s inner thoughts once again echoed in the minds of their classmates.
#Martha wrote in her diary that she had discovered Ian’s true father’s identity—he was none other than the head of the Russell family, Neil Russell. Martha had no idea why such a prestigious man had disguised himself as a homeless person. Was it some strange fetish? Would he kill her to silence her? Out of fear, Martha never dared to reveal that she had a child with Neil.
Ian’s aunt, however, wasn’t concerned about such things. She was now focused on avenging her sister and nephew. She found Neil and told him everything. Afterward, Neil used all his power to bankrupt Cornet’s family and threw Ian’s half-siblings one by one into the ocean to feed the sharks.#
‘That ending is quite satisfying—full of revenge-driven pleasure. Considering it, Ian’s future isn’t as bad as David’s. At least his ashes weren’t flushed down the sewer.’
Jennifer mused as she glanced at Ian, only to find he had turned his head to look at a boy behind him.
Jennifer didn’t know Peggy’s name—unless she used her ability to peek into his secrets, which she chose not to do.
However, Ian was utterly shocked, and Peggy’s face had lost all traces of laughter.
The rest of the class was also staring at Peggy in astonishment.
Because Peggy’s full name was Peggy Russell.
And his father was Neil Russell.
If Jennifer’s thoughts were confirmed, Ian was Peggy’s brother!
