Chapter 3 Agree to Divorce
Olivia blinked slowly, thinking she must have misheard.
The man stood tall and composed across from her, his demeanor elegant and indifferent, yet he spoke such humiliating words with a calmness that was chilling.
Olivia felt it was absurd. She had thought Cameron was leaving her to pursue a past love, but now he seemed like a complete stranger, the man she once knew entirely gone.
Her mouth tasted bitter, and her heart sank.
"Olivia! Don't you dare beg him!"
A shout drowned out all the noise in the police station.
Olivia snapped back to reality.
Everyone turned to look as Justin, who had just come out of the interrogation room, was being restrained by the police again.
He struggled fiercely, his eyes bloodshot, and yelled in Olivia's direction.
"I'd rather rot in jail forever than have you beg this bastard for forgiveness!"
Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes.
She couldn't let Justin ruin his future because of her.
As Justin was taken away by the police, the hallway was left with just her and Cameron.
Olivia looked down at her palm, noticing deep red marks from her nails, blood seeping from the skin, the pain slowly creeping into her heart.
"You want a divorce, don't you?" Olivia's voice was low.
Cameron frowned slightly.
Olivia looked up, her eyes glistening with tears, her voice strained. "I'll agree to the divorce. I just hope you won't press charges against Justin."
Silence spread.
Olivia didn't want to show weakness, forcing herself to stay calm as she looked at Cameron.
His expression grew more unreadable, devoid of any clear emotion, leaving Olivia unable to guess what he was thinking.
But he must be pleased, right?
Cameron suddenly laughed, a sound that was more of a scoff through his nose. Olivia saw the familiar mockery in his eyes.
"You really think this marriage was a transaction. You sold yourself for five hundred million dollars back then, and now you want to trade your way out of it."
Olivia's face turned pale.
Everyone had said that, and Olivia had never bothered to clarify. But hearing it from Cameron's mouth, each word felt like a knife stabbing into her heart.
To Cameron, their past was like dust, easily brushed away without a second thought.
Cameron took a step closer, and Olivia stood frozen, not moving an inch.
A cold, lazy scent of cedar wafted over, a fragrance Olivia had never smelled on him before, but it suited him well.
She wondered vaguely if Jennifer had bought it for him, sprayed it on him herself, as she heard Cameron speak leisurely.
"I have a friend who quite likes you. There's a party tomorrow night. If you go and keep him company, I'll drop the charges."
"Until then, Justin stays in custody."
Keep company.
And with his friend, no less.
Cameron was treating her like a plaything to be passed around.
Olivia's teeth chattered, her stomach churning with a sudden, intense pain, a strong urge to vomit rising in her throat.
She clutched the hallway wall, covering her mouth as she dry-heaved, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.
She couldn't tell if it was from physical discomfort or the humiliation she had endured tonight, but Olivia closed her eyes tightly, only for the tears to flow even more. She dry-heaved again, her stomach cramping painfully.
Cameron's expression changed slightly, and he instinctively reached out to touch Olivia, but his hand stopped mid-air and then dropped.
He watched in silence as Olivia's face grew paler, her dry-heaving relentless. He frowned and asked, "Are you pregnant?"
Olivia froze, remembering the night before Cameron regained his memory, when they had been so passionately entwined. By the timeline, it was possible she was pregnant.
The memory of Cameron whispering "I love you" repeatedly in her ear blurred, replaced by the cold, unfeeling man before her. If he knew she was pregnant...
Olivia shook her head immediately. "No, it's nothing. I must have eaten something bad this morning."
Cameron narrowed his eyes. "Do you think I'm an idiot? You're coming with me to the hospital for a check-up!"
Olivia's heart sank.
She hadn't expected Cameron to be so cautious.
Using Justin as leverage, Cameron forced Olivia into his car to go to the hospital.
The examination was quick, but the results would take some time.
Olivia was anxious, thinking of ways to bribe the doctor to say she wasn't pregnant, regardless of the truth.
But knowing the Hayes family had invested in this hospital, she realized it was impossible.
She washed her face, forcing herself to stay calm.
If worst came to worst, she'd go down fighting.
Olivia stared at her tear-stained reflection in the mirror, feeling both pitiful and ridiculous. How had she been driven to such a state?
She stayed in the restroom for a long time before finally stepping out.
She didn't want to be alone with Cameron.
As she walked down the hallway, the doctor approached.
Olivia's steps faltered.
Following the doctor was Jennifer.
When had she arrived?
"Mr. Hayes, Miss Jennifer Harper is pregnant." The doctor handed the report to Cameron, sighing. "This child didn't come easily. Her health isn't good, and this might be her only chance."
Olivia was stunned.
She saw Jennifer happily cling to Cameron's arm, shaking with joy. "Cameron, I never thought I'd be able to get pregnant. This child is a gift from God for both of us!"
Jennifer seemed to glance at her, and for a moment, Olivia felt her smugness.
So, the child was Cameron's.
Olivia felt a pang in her stomach again, realizing that Cameron must have moved in with Jennifer immediately after leaving her, which was why Jennifer got pregnant so quickly.
Cameron must really love Jennifer.
So what did that make her?
The sight of the happy couple was blinding. Olivia turned away, not wanting to face the painful reality that she and Cameron were over for good.
Cameron frowned, not responding.
He looked at Olivia, but she was staring blankly at a hospital notice on the wall, her face pale, as if the world around her didn't exist.
"Cameron, let's go shopping for baby furniture this weekend, okay? There's so much to prepare, and we need to pick out a crib together."
Jennifer's face was full of happiness as she planned for their future.
Each word echoed loudly in Olivia's ears, making it harder to breathe.
"Ms. Olivia Harper's results are in."
A nurse handed over a stack of reports.
Jennifer snatched the report first, glancing at it quickly, and said in surprise, "She's not pregnant. It's just a stomach issue. What's the big deal?"
"Not pregnant?" Cameron picked up the report.
The words were clear and undeniable.
He held the report, unsure of how to feel, but there was an inexplicable hint of disappointment.
He looked at Olivia with a complex expression, seeing her sigh in relief as she held her stomach.
"Not having my child makes you this relieved?" Cameron's eyes darkened, anger flaring up.
He sneered, "Saves me the trouble of forcing you to get an abortion. Make sure you're ready for tomorrow."
Olivia's heart tightened again. She nodded slowly, her lips trembling. "I understand."
She didn't stay long, her mind in turmoil, as she left in a daze.
Jennifer watched Olivia's slender, retreating figure, remembering the pregnancy report she had shredded herself, and felt a surge of jealousy and rage.
Olivia was really pregnant with Cameron's child!
She would never let that child exist.
