Chapter 2 No Feelings Left
Cameron stumbled out, drunk as a skunk.
Olivia lay in bed, her mind racing, trying to figure out why he came home just to leave again. She didn't even know when she finally passed out from sheer exhaustion.
The next morning, her phone rang, jolting her awake.
"How can you still be sleeping? Cameron's lost his damn mind! The media caught him last night at 2 AM, helping Jennifer into a hotel!"
Justin Harper's angry voice blared through the phone.
Olivia was floored.
Her WhatsApp was blowing up with notifications. She switched her phone to Do Not Disturb mode and opened the app.
Her friends had flooded her with messages, all of them cursing Cameron.
She scrolled through quickly, her eyes catching on a screenshot of an online news article. She didn't need to open it; the paparazzi photo was clear enough.
In the dead of night, at the hotel entrance, Cameron was gently helping the petite Jennifer inside. She was wrapped in his suit jacket, and they were walking close together.
They looked way more intimate than yesterday's news suggested.
They looked more like a loving couple than she and Cameron ever did.
Olivia's grip on her phone tightened, bitterness rising inside her.
In Cameron's heart, she had never been his wife. He had always longed for Jennifer, the woman he was originally engaged to.
These past three years had been an unexpected gift for her.
But they had shared such real, sweet moments together. Now, a cold splash of reality was waking her up, demanding she return Cameron and pretend nothing had ever happened. How could she accept that?
Did Cameron really have no feelings for her at all?
"Do you really think you're irreplaceable? He can just kick you out if he doesn't want you. And now he's blatantly cheating! Olivia, I can't stand it! I have to teach him a lesson!"
Justin raged.
Olivia was taken aback and immediately tried to stop him. "No!"
Justin's anger was palpable. "I knew you'd protect that bastard! Stay out of this!"
"Wait—"
Before she could finish, the call was cut off.
Something bad was going to happen!
Olivia's heart raced. She quickly messaged her friends, asking which hotel it was, threw on some clothes, and called a cab.
The ride took a full half hour. As soon as Olivia entered the hotel, she overheard people whispering as they passed by.
"Is there a fight on the fourth floor? It's really loud."
"Someone should call the front desk."
The fourth floor.
Olivia didn't hesitate and got into the elevator.
When the doors opened with a ding, she could hear the sounds of a struggle. Panic set in, and she hurried towards the noise, stopping outside an open room.
"Let go of me! Let go!"
Justin was being held down by two burly bodyguards, struggling fiercely. They had to use all their strength to restrain him, bending his arm at a painful angle. Olivia's heart clenched at the sight.
She frantically looked at Cameron.
He stood tall, his shirt collar undone, hands lazily in his pockets, standing next to Jennifer, completely indifferent.
Her pleading gaze was met with cold indifference.
Olivia bit back her pain. Justin couldn't get hurt.
Without thinking, she rushed over and tried to pull the bodyguards off him.
The strength difference was too great. The bodyguard didn't budge and impatiently shoved Olivia away.
She stumbled back, trying to regain her balance, but her shoulder collided heavily with something.
"Ah—"
Jennifer screamed.
Olivia turned to see Jennifer clutching her stomach, pale and trembling, crying out in pain.
Cameron shouted angrily, "Olivia, what are you doing? Don't go too far!"
"I... ah!" Olivia tried to speak but was shoved aside by Cameron, who rushed to check on Jennifer. Her leg hit the corner of a coffee table, and she fell, unable to stand from the pain.
"Cameron, you bastard!"
Justin roared, his eyes red with fury, watching Olivia get hurt. He mustered all his strength and threw off the two bodyguards.
He swung his fist at Cameron, nearly hitting his nose, but was yanked back by his leg, falling to the ground. The bodyguards dragged him back, and he struggled again.
Amid the chaos, the hotel room door was pounded on.
"Stop fighting! Police!"
Justin was handcuffed and taken to the police station.
Jennifer and the bodyguards accused Olivia and Justin of causing trouble and intentionally hurting Jennifer.
Even the hotel staff backed up their story, clearly having coordinated their false testimonies.
With witnesses against them, the police quickly took notes.
Breaking and entering, premeditated assault, malicious battery—Olivia listened as the situation was described in increasingly severe terms, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
If it were up to Cameron, Justin wouldn't just be held for a few days. He'd likely end up in prison. With Cameron's resources, he could easily get a lawyer to put Justin away for five or six years.
Olivia's heart ached with anxiety. She instinctively looked to Cameron for help, but he stood there, calm and cold.
Noticing her gaze, Cameron finally looked at Olivia.
His eyes were icy and indifferent.
He didn't care about Olivia's suffering at all.
In this situation, what was there left for her to not understand?
"Cameron!" Olivia's voice was hoarse, twisted with pain and trembling.
"Please, don't let anything happen to Justin."
The police station was noisy, but the air between them grew deathly quiet. Olivia stared at Cameron, frozen.
After a long pause, Cameron let out a strange, soft laugh.
He looked at Olivia, his lips curling into a cruel smile.
"Alright."
"Kneel and apologize."
