Chapter 6
Tina did not look up at the road as she walked until she heard the familiar voice calling her name, "Tina." When she raised her head, she saw Patrick standing in front of her.
Bitter, angry, and resentful, Tina wanted to run past him, but Patrick quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her close, stopping her from escaping. Daylight had fully broken, and he didn’t mind the onlookers staring at them.
"I'm sorry," Patrick whispered again, pulling Tina into a hug. She sobbed against his chest, wanting to escape him, as she hit his chest to beg him to let go.
"No. Come with me. Let me take you home to your village," Patrick said, enduring Tina's fists against his chest as she cried. Some onlookers wondered about the sweet romantic couple they were witnessing at such an early hour.
As Tina calmed down, she pulled away from Patrick, realizing she had been sobbing against him. However, Patrick still held her hand tightly as he walked her to his car. He helped her into the front passenger seat, saying, "I know the junction to your village, and I will take you there."
Tina didn’t respond; she sobbed as she watched Patrick shut the door on her side. He walked back to his driver’s seat and got into the car, knowing he would be late for work but wanting to ensure Tina got home safely.
Patrick started the engine and drove toward Tina's village junction while she continued to sob in the car, not looking up at the road or providing any directions.
Sharon and Prisca finally returned home to Patrick's house after their night of clubbing. The security guard informed Sharon, "Boss isn't home; he left for work."
"Okay, how about the lady?" Sharon asked about Tina, to which the guard replied, "She also left earlier, before your brother."
"Okay," Sharon said, not wanting to ask further questions, as she felt too tired after staying up all night partying and later sleeping with a rich guy she had met at the club. She walked toward the house door with Prisca, using her spare key to unlock it, and entered with her friend, as her two previous companions had already gone home.
"What did the security man say about Tina?" Prisca asked.
"I'm tired, Prisca. He said that Tina has already left," Sharon replied lazily, feeling sleepy. But Prisca pressed on, "With your brother?"
"No, Prisca. The guard said Tina left before Patrick did," Sharon answered. Prisca sighed, "Okay, better that way."
Prisca couldn’t hide her jealousy over Patrick's interest in Tina. She had hesitated to go out with Sharon the night before, leaving Tina alone with Patrick. However, with the enticing gossip Sharon and her friends shared about the club, Prisca couldn’t resist joining them, hoping to meet a new handsome man. She knew Patrick didn’t take her relationship with him seriously; he kept asking for Tina and giving her gifts to deliver to Tina.
Prisca recalled how Patrick had given her $20,000 in cash to bring Tina along, but she had told him, "Tina doesn't accept; she doesn't like associating with guys." She also mentioned to Tina that Patrick was interested in dating her, but Tina refused, stating she didn’t need a boyfriend. She wanted to save her virginity for her husband, to give it to him as a wedding gift on their wedding night.
Prisca remembered telling Tina that keeping her virginity was a waste since future husbands wouldn’t be virgins. She wondered what was so special about Tina holding onto it when she could have fun at their age. But Tina had remained adamant, stating it was her decision and that her mother would be upset if she found out about her boyfriend.
Sighing, Prisca resolved to stop bothering Tina about Patrick, while continuing to accept gifts from him. She claimed she would help him communicate with Tina without alerting her about Patrick's feelings. Even the last time, she did not mention that Patrick wanted to talk to Tina when she invited her to Sharon's house because she had told Tina she was dating Patrick herself. This made Tina less worried about following her.
Prisca knew Tina would have turned back home if she had known Patrick was Sharon's brother and that they were actually going to his house. But they had already walked too far from home before she stopped a bike and pulled Tina along with her.
Now, Prisca worried about Tina and felt slightly jealous, knowing that Tina had slept over at Patrick's house the previous night, alone with him. She wondered what had happened between them. She hoped Patrick hadn’t done anything foolish, as she viewed him as a gentleman who had resisted her advances for intimacy.
Feeling tired after making out with a rich guy at the club for 10k, Prisca thought about resting for a while in Sharon's room before returning to her mother's house. She knew her mother wouldn’t question her about where she had been, so she walked into Sharon's bedroom to rest, laying down on Sharon's bed and falling asleep.
--------
Sharon entered the house and first headed to the restroom to relieve herself and wash her face before checking if Patrick had left any dishes unwashed after their guests from the previous night. She stepped into the kitchen and opened the pot, surprised to see that Patrick hadn’t even warmed up the leftover food. She wondered why he hadn’t re-heated the meals before leaving for work.
Sharon decided to heat the food first to prevent spoilage while she made tea and bread for herself as breakfast. After finishing her meal, she went to check on Prisca and found her already asleep on the bed, not bothering to shower or eat. Deciding to let Prisca rest because she too was tired, Sharon felt curious about what had transpired between Patrick and Tina the night before, especially since Patrick hadn’t warmed up the food left behind.
Sharon approached Patrick's room door, surprised to find it slightly ajar. She knew he usually locked his door, so she pushed the door open and stepped inside, shocked to see red blood stained on the white bed, knowing that Patrick preferred white mattresses.
In disbelief, Sharon ran back to her bedroom, desperate to wake up Prisca. "Prisca! Prisca! Wake up!" Sharon screamed, shaking Prisca vigorously to rouse her from sleep.
"Prisca!" Sharon yelled again. Finally, Prisca woke up, sitting up on the bed and stretching, initially planning to sleep a little longer before returning home to her mother. She knew her mother wouldn’t complain much once she said she had been at a friend's place.
"What's wrong? Why did you wake me up, Sharon? Why are you staring at me like that?" Prisca asked, looking at Sharon's anxious expression.
Sharon shook her head, struggling to contain her emotions. She stood up from the bed, clapped her hands together, and exclaimed, "You wouldn't believe it."
"Believe what?" Prisca asked, clearing her eyes, realizing she wouldn’t be able to sleep again now. She needed to prepare to go home.
"What's going on?" Prisca pressed again, noticing Sharon’s intense gaze. Sharon asked, "Why didn’t you tell me your friend was a prostitute who lacked self-control? You wouldn’t believe what I found out."
Sharon shook her head, and Prisca asked, "What did you see?"
Confused, Prisca wanted Sharon to get to the point. Sharon explained, "Some girls can be deceptive! Did you know I went to my brother's room to check why Patrick left so early without warming up the food he made last night before we left? Remember, he was cooking?"
"Yes, I remember," Prisca replied.
"Come and see for yourself." Sharon grabbed Prisca's hand and urged her to get up from the bed and follow her to Patrick's room.
