SELENE'S POINT OF VIEW

Standing tall in front of me, his face turned first from a smile to irritation and then back again.

Lycan Heir

I felt suffocated, unsure if it was his closeness or my entering the men's room. Very near.

I could not just ignore his presence. He exuded a chilly, dark demeanour that could easily freeze anyone. His hair was as dark as night, and his sharp, almost-black eyes seemed to see straight ahead through me.

For a second he said nothing whatsoever. He only glanced at me. His eyes moved from my face to the thick glasses resting on my nose.

"Lost, four-eyes?"

The words land more strongly than I had anticipated.

I quickly blinked. "I think I entered the wrong room..."

"You think? Then you know? His voice sounded sarcastic. "Because it looks reasonably clear to me."

I hardly even tried to dispute.

Ready to vanish and act as though none of this happened, I began to circle him, but he slammed his hand against the wall next to me. I stammered. My pulse surged into my throat.

He leaned in to catch me halfway between him and the chilly wall.

Head slightly slanted, he said, "This is the guys' room"." Or were you merely dying for a taste test? Should I include you on the list of girls fixated on me?

"Excuse me?" My cheeks throbbed.

Your glasses clearly are not helping you. Are you able to see clearly with those glasses?

There was one stung. The reason it stung was not its cleverness, but rather the personal nature of the glasses.

"I said it was a mistake. Transpose.

I shoved against his chest, but he moved nowhere. He failed to blink at all. He remained fixed on me, as if I were a bothersome insect whirling in his ear.

"four-eyes"—

"I go under a name."

He bent his head once more, eyes narrowing.

"Then say it."

I snapped, louder than I intended, "Selene."

His sarcastic smile returned, slow and arrogant.

Still sounds to me like four-eyes.

He bent in once more and spoke softly. "Where I'm from, nobody speaks back to me."

I raised my chin and squared my shoulders.

"Well, nobody talks to me like that where I'm from."

His countenance stopped.

That was not what he expected.

His eyebrows jerked as he wondered whether he ought to be offended or inspired.

I slid past him using that second and shot out the door.

I hardly turned around at all.

Trying to cool my racing heart, my feet moved quickly and echoed against the corridor floor. I had just stood up in front of everyone against the Lycan Heir, Soren. Yes, I was shaking, but I didn't let him triumph over me.

For some reason, that had to count.

When I returned to the group, Noelle immediately recognised me.

"You okay?" she asked, looping her arm through mine.

I responded quickly, saying, "I'm fine." "What did I forget?"

She grinned. Her smile didn't hold much significance. We ought to be getting ready for the party, I was saying.

I started to frown. But it's not for hours either.

"Exactly! And we have to look absolutely great. What if tonight we find our mates?

My eyes rolled long before I could stop them.

±

She was not wasting any time once we arrived back at the dorm.

Noelle already had a dress chosen for me. She carried it as if it were treasure.

It was a brilliant blue colour. The term is short. Straightforward. far too brief.

I looked at it in terror. Definitely not.

She started to gasp. Absolutely yes!

"No…"

Yes!

"Noelle—"—

"Selene!":

We laughed simultaneously. Though I had no idea how, it already felt like I had known her always. She somehow also made everything less weighty.

Your curves are really good. Show them, she said, eyebrow twitching. "I mean, I certainly intend to."

I stopped even bothering to fight her.

"Okay, okay. I'll put it on.

She shed tears and rested her chin on my shoulder, embracing me from behind.

"You will look absolutely great on it."

The door creaked open just then. Both of us turned to stare.

It was Livia.

She entered fast, picked some shoes and gowns, then turned around.

"Hey," she whispered. "I am just gathering my belongings." Along with some of the sophomore girls, I am accompanying Elira.

Noel waved. "Will we see you at the party then?"

Still, the door slammed before she could even finish.

We fixed our eyes on one another.

"What was that?" Whispers from Noelle revealed lips twisted in perplexity.

I said, "I have no idea," and we both started to giggle.

She said, tugging me near once more, "I'm so glad you're my flatmate."

I like you, too.

Livia felt something like this was off. Though my gut told me she was someone I should keep far away from, I couldn't pinpoint exactly why.

We turned back to get ready. We took care of our hair, cosmetics, and everything else.

Noelle looked at my face after curling the last bit of my hair.

She said, "Okay, glasses off," reaching towards them.

I lunged back. It wasn't just a number. Not transpiring."

"Why not?" Selene, your eyes are rather lovely.

She stared perplexedly.

I moaned.

"They are rather significant to me. Before she passed away, my mother handed them to me. I vowed to her I would always wear them.

She blinked then dropped her hand. "I apologise so much. I did not know—"

"It is alright. You hadn't.

I turned to face the mirror. That bit of truth was accurate.

The glasses came as a present. Using Mom. That was only one of the reasons I wore them, though.

I used to dream in ways that went beyond mere fantasies. Real-life dreams. I would hear whispers and observe things nobody else did. I also had the ability to predict events before they happened. People were terrified by it. It frightened me.

Few people knew the truth—my parents, my uncle, and Marcel.

I hardly changed at all. I found it unacceptable. I particularly objected to doing it without the glasses.

Being a healer allowed me to steer clear of all that. It helped me to stay rooted.

Safe.

"You know," Noelle said, squinting at me. "Your thing is the glasses somewhat. The glasses exude an enigmatic female energy.

I quickly changed the topic.

"I watched Soren in the toilet."

Her eyes expanded broadly.

He doesn't like it at all! What does he like?

“Terrible. He called me a stalker and four-eyes.”

She tried to hold back a laugh.

Not funny!

Her lips twitching, she said, "Okay, okay." "But maybe it's a good thing?”

Could you please explain how that would be beneficial?

"I heard he generally treats everyone as irrelevant. He only pays attention to those he finds genuinely fascinating.

Well, he can keep neglecting me going forward.

"You sure?" I knew he and Elira were expected to be together. This expectation was likely arranged by their respective families. He severed it, though. Some attribute it to his fear of commitment.

"No, he's a jerk," I answered sharply.

She laughed and then looked at her phone. "We ought to start right now."

Indeed.

She tossed me a pack of gum.

I blinked. “What’s this device for?”

Just in case you run into your mate tonight, this information is provided.

I groaned. “I’m not planning on that happening.”

“You never know.”

“No. I do.”

“No, you don’t.”

We kept up the banter as we walked down the hall. It felt nice. Normal.

Then she ducked into the restroom, and I was left alone.

I meandered down the hall, slowing down as I came past the wall covered in pictures.

Physicians. Former attendees. Locking memories in glass frames.

Year after year, my eyes looked forward.

Then I turned to see her.

Her mother.

They were all smiling together in a group photo. Her arm was around another girl. They shared a laugh and wore similar outfits.

My gaze descended to the name beneath the girl.

Lilente.

Esther had gone by that name. When she caught sight of me, she immediately recognised me.

My gut turned.

I leaned in to have a closer look at the girl's face, but it was angled just enough to obscure my vision.

Should only I be able to see her face?

"Done!"— Appearing out of nowhere, Noelle said and threw her arm over my shoulder.

I jumped.

"What are we looking at?" asked

Zero. Solely pictures.

She once more linked arms with me. "Our photos will also be up there one day."

We left indoors and headed outdoors.

The woodland was noisy. laughter. Music is voices stacked one on top of one another.

Under the lights hung between the trees, students danced. There were numerous red cups present. The air had an unmistakably illicit smell. People already had alcohol on them.

I tensed my shoulders.

Eyes wide, Noelle said, "Everyone's here."

I had nothing to say.

I wanted to leave right away the minute we entered that clearing.

Too many people exist. excessively disarrayed.

There is too much to keep under wraps.

Noelle pushed me, mumbling near my ear.

"Keep a receptive attitude." You never know tonight what might transpire.

Though I laughed softly, my gut started to hurt already.

Something was about to happen.

But suppose it weren't something good?
