Chapter 3 At The Mart

FOR a split second Sophia prayed that the ground should just open up and swallow her, as she walked along at the mart that evening, purchasing some groceries.

She had just come over to get some groceries and leave immediately, but the word she just heard now, the mocking and derogatory remark a lady just made about her now, making heads to snap at her and faces to disgustingly look at her, pushed her to make such prayer, that the ground she was standing on, should open and swallow her.

"How can such a low life and low classic girl turn a guy as Oswald Escobar on? Eww, it sounds disgusting", that was the remark from the lady, and it wasn't said lowly, it was deliberately said loudly so she could hear.

"She isn't even pretty enough, so to say", the lady added.

Sophia tried all she could to calm herself down, within her she was boiling with anger but what could she do?

She was that girl whom the society has rejected just for accepting a man who showed interest in her poor self, her choice of man.

Oswald Dino Escobar.

Oswald Dino Escobar was a household name especially in the business world, he was making waves here and there, following the most richest man in the country behind.

He was the CEO of the multi billionaire business empire, The Escobar Investments, the leading investment company in Philadelphia, and also a CEO to certain other billion dollar companies scattered all over the country.

He was also the only son of one of the highly and most respected and well learned old couple, His Lordship, Dino Escobar and Lady Frances Escobar.

He was possessive, adroit and domineering.

Truly, it was actually difficult to find someone of his calibre fall in love with her, a mere college graduate, with no family to identify with, no high qualifications, no investments inherited from parents, no class, so she had actually at first, never cared about what the people said about her.

That was at the initial stage, after their relationship came into limelight, and everyone got to know about it. She had thought it was gonna die down and gradually stop, but against what she thought, it didn't.

Even his parents wouldn't accept her, nobody would, none.

More than half a year recently, that they had begun dating, he was the best thing that has ever happened to her, he adored her so much despite she wasn't of his class, and their love grew so well.

So, just ignoring what that jealous lady has remarked was to say she has wisdom, and she did so.

With people still looking at her, she walked up to a man at the counter to sum up her sales.

"How much is it?", she asked the gentleman at the counter and he calculated her items in the basket.

"150 dollars", he replied and she took out her credit card and paid.

The sales man packaged the items in a customized paper bag, and handed it to her.

"Sweetie, I would advise you as a good somebody, to leave Oswald alone and let him get a better life", the man sharply said to her in a rush even before she could turn to leave.

Huh? She felt hurt, bad and demoralized. She said nothing, but only looked at him and shook her head, then walked away, out of the mart.

She briskly walked up to her car and entered, dropped the bag on the front seat by her right, then she sat to think.

Her head was on the headrest and the tears in her eyes welled up and flowed down, she let it flow.

After a few minutes of sobbing, she cleaned off her eyes and was ready to leave.

Talking of Oswald, she was supposed to be at his mansion that evening, they had an indoor date, but now, just now after that little drama at the mart, she decided she wasn't gonna go see him, she decided to go home, she was damn hurt, so hurt.

As she revved the engine and was about leaving, her phone which she had earlier dropped in the pigeon hole, lighted up and a notification popped up.

She cleaned off her eyes and picked up the phone, it was a text message.
