Chapter 4 The New Place

I follow Adam through a long hallway. I walk past the closed doors wondering where he is taking me. I look at the two guards who are walking beside me as if I will run away. Even if I want to run away, where would I go in a place I have never been for a lifetime. As we reach the end of the hallway, Adam opens the door of a room. He enters the room and I follow him inside. The two guards get inside the room and the door is latched. A stock of chill runs down my spine while my palms sweat in terror. I look at Adam with sudden fright in my eyes.

"This is your room," Adam says, breaking the silence.

"Then what are you doing in my room?" This is what I want to ask but my anxiety shrinks me to a helpless girl in an unknown place.

It's a tiny room with a bed in one corner of the room and a table beside the bed. There is a tiny cupboard in the other corner of the room. The room is clean with a sweet aroma filling the room. I look at Adam in apprehension. A girl in a new place is taken to a room by three strangers like they are planning for something. I clench my fist preparing to defend and fight as my grandfather told me.

.

But something strange waves through me exalting the feeling of familiarity and belongingness. My wolf instinct gives me a vibe that I have been here before. Perhaps, this is my native homeland.

"Have a seat. We need to tell you the rules and regulations that you should abide by," Adam says. I have already started to feel like I am shackled to the norms and regulations of Wolfland.

I silently walk towards the bed and plump on it.

Adam pulls the chair and sits facing me while the guards stand near the door.

"Eve Mitchell, from today you are the citizen of the Kingdom of Moon-Wolfland. We will issue your citizenship identity card tomorrow. You are like other wolves of this Kingdom and you should abide by the wolf rules and regulations," he says with a stern face.

I bite my lips in dismay. The first thing that smashes my mind is my grandfather's wish and my dream of living as a human collapsing like a building by the tremendous earthquake.

"You might be wondering why we brought you here. I must tell you that your parents were the citizens of this Kingdom but they were traitors who ran away from this Kingdom," he says.

"Traitor?" I blurt out in surprise.

What he said makes me gasp at him with a frown. My grandfather never told me that my parents were traitors. He told me that they died in a war and my grandfather ran away with me from the enemies.

"It happened nineteen years ago when you were an infant and I was just a four years old kid. But I am not supposed to tell you what your parents did. It's against the rule of the country," he says, biting his lower lips. His stern gaze is replaced by a soft gaze.

"But my grandfather told me that they died in a war," I say to him.

"Your grandfather has lied to you. I think he didn't want you to feel low and bad about your parents," he says in a low voice as if he sympathizes with me.

I bend my head, pouting my lips. I look at my boots smeared with mud. No, my grandfather will never lie to me! Even if all the people in the world trick me and hurt me, my grandfather would never do that! I am so angry at what this so-called Beta's damn words, but I know clearly that I don't have the strength to fight against him now.

"Look, Eve, the Alpha King wanted to bring you here as you are the blood of this kingdom and he doesn't want any blood of this Kingdom to die in some other land."

"I don't want to live the life of a werewolf," I confront him.

Adam looks at me in silence for a while.

"You will never be able to live like a human. Humans hate us because animals that they fear reside in us and history tells that in the ancient times, we wolves feed on humans," says Adam.

I agree with what he said but I have my reasons to stay in the human world.

"I never had an issue like that," I tell him looking into his eyes. I can see my reflection in his pupils.

"Do they know that you are a werewolf?" Adam asks me.

A stock of chill runs down my spine reverberating to me. No human knew that I was a werewolf.

"No, they didn't," I reply, in a low voice looking at my boots.

"That's what I am talking about. If they had known that you are a human they would have burned you alive," he says.

I swallow a lump in my throat. I knew that he would say something like that.

"You are safe here. You are in your world where you can live freely as a human and a werewolf," he says.

He talks like he is favoring me by bringing me here when he has burned all my dreams and desires. I even don't know what I am supposed to do. My dream of completing my studies has also collapsed into ashes.

"And yeah, don't confide to anyone that you stayed in England. Tell them that you were in Heart-Wolfland with your parents," he says like he is commanding me.

"But…"

"If others know that you are a daughter of a traitor, you will be treated as a rogue," he says like he is treating me like a princess.

I nod my head not knowing what I should be saying.

"By the way, you will be working for the Alpha King, the new Alpha King who will be crowned as an Alpha king a few hours later," he says.

I look at him vacantly.

"Don't deny whatever he commands you, now he is your king," Adam says, pulling himself from the chair.

"You can refresh yourself. The maids may be coming with the food in a while," he says, getting out of the room. The guards follow him.

"Dress her in a perfect dress. She should please our King."

I hear Adam speaking.

"Yes sir," a girl replies.

What I heard petrifies me. A wave of warm blood rushes to my face making me blush with fear. I don't understand what he means by I need to please the King. Is he going to take me as his sex partner? My brain pulsates vigorously on my temple.

The door pushes open. A girl comes with a tray of food. She smiles and places the tray on the table. My stomach rumbles as hunger shovels through me but my appetite has flown in the air.

"Why is there a crowd outside?" I ask the girl.

"Didn't you know that? Tonight is coronation day. The Alpha King of this Kingdom is crowning his son as the new Alpha King," the girl replies with a smile.

Terror strikes her, reverberating her entire body. She silently prays that Adam doesn't mean pleasing the King with sexual pleasure.
