Chapter 7 Holding onto faith

My wolf seemed to have a better understanding of fate than I did.

After comforting myself that I should calm down and allow time to prove that there is more to what appears shallow on the surface, I laid myself to rest in a deep slumber.

Every new day comes with its hurdles. I was, and I was prepared for whatever might come my way again.

I stepped out to begin my day, but the person I saw was a represented day.

Someone was already standing outside the door, a tall brunette with a harsh face.

Emma.

She was the one who raised Ardan from childhood. “Here comes the wench! Aren't you just shameless?” She announced.

Her lousy voice broke my thoughts. She was fond of mocking me like I was her sworn enemy in her past life, and she was determined to humiliate me at every given opportunity.

“Wash it clean and have it ironed, too.” She tossed a maid dress to me. I picked it up, and I dare not object to her. “Why are you still standing?” She asked rudely.

“I. I thought you wanted me to wash this immediately,” I said, pointing at the dress in my hand.

“No fool, return to the living room right now and complete the cleaning,” she ordered.

Without hesitating, I returned to the living room to begin my task. I was already used to the treatment from Emma, and she despised me as much as she loved herself.

I began cleaning. The whole thing was just a show-off; we sanitized everywhere daily, and there was hardly anything to clean.

My mind was clouded with uneasiness, drifting here and there, and it was all because of what had happened last night.

I was in a place where I did not understand my relationship with Ardan, even though he made it clear that I would be his mistress. I was confused and clothed with unsettled emotions.

My existence would be wrapped with shame and humiliation for being the king's mistress since everyone would eventually be aware of it.

I would probably be living in hell because the queen would make me miserable for sharing her partner, but I could never say no; if the king wants me in his bed I must obey. I cursed my existence for being born with such a horrible fate.

I was lost in my thoughts until a flower vase accidentally fell off. I picked it up immediately and placed it back, but unfortunately, Emma had already noticed this and was now coming towards me.

I stood by the side quickly, my arms wrapped around my body in fear since I knew she was not coming to hug me. She was coming to tear me down. “I am sorry. It wasn't intentional,” I apologized quickly.

Emma's terrifying eyes rolled back like she was possessed. She was furious. “Was it supposed to be intentional? You crazy idiot.

Even if we sell you, your price is nothing compared to this vase. How can you be so careless? Or were you trying to provoke me?”

“No, I'm not. I'm sorry.” “You're sorry? Is it supposed to cover up for your silly mistakes? You're so dumb that you can't even do anything properly.”

Now, this was it; she was doing too much, and I wouldn't stand there and allow her to rain insults on me.

“I quickly cleaned the living room mistake. Besides, it was not broken. You didn't have to humiliate me,” I said with a low tone, but it conveyed my message.

“How dare you talk back to me? Have you lost your mind?” Emma pounced on me angrily, and I dodged her. She raised her hand to hit, but before she could do that, Beta saw everything and stopped her.

“If I were you, I wouldn't do that. Who gave you the authority to hit anyone? Don't do that again.” “She was being rude, Beta. Instead of apologizing after making a mistake,” Emma complained.

“I saw everything, Emma. Now you will have to reflect on your actions, go to your room, and don't come out until further notice.” he sounded like he wanted to punish her. He must have seen that I apologized, but Emma still spoke harshly.

Emma walked away unsatisfied, with displeasure written all over her.

“Thank you, Beta,” I expressed my gratitude as I turned to him. But he seemed to be displeased judging by his expression.

He was now aware of my true identity, which must have made him despise me, too. It was much more expected from him, though, so I was not so disappointed.

“You don't have to thank me, and I did what I was supposed to do. However, be careful. I will not take it easy with you if you cause any trouble around here. So I beg you to avoid unnecessary drama and keep your act in check.”

I understood his concerns, and I had long known not to bring myself unnecessary attention, especially when no one wanted to see me take the same air as them.

“Yes, Beta. I won't cause any trouble,” I promised. “Good. We will have a guest soon, and I want you to prepare various delicious homemade meals ahead. No mistakes, okay?” He instructed.

I didn't know why he wanted me to be the one to do this, but I would have to do it anyway, and I must give my best.

“Alright, Beta. I will get to work once I am done with this. Do you have any dish in mind?” I asked. “No, just prepare something nice and befitting.” “ok,” I said.

He walked away, too, and I was alone as I continued my chores. Beta had mentioned that the person I would be preparing a special meal for was Cynthia.

The name rang a bell, and then I remembered who she was. Cynthia was the daughter of the Alpha of the D Park. She was on the list of the Luna candidates Ardan mentioned to me the day before.

It was a bit funny to me. Were they coming over one after the other just to become Luna? It sounded like a movie or singing auditions I'd seen on TV.

While I found the idea of different women coming around to bid for the position of Luna, bitterness washed over me as I was overwhelmed with the realization that this was it for me. I was going to live this way.

I knew the reason why Ardan hated me. What I didn't understand was why Beta would make me cook for these women when he learned about the situation between Ardan and me.

It's more like he wanted to hurt me deliberately or something. But who am I to refuse? I have to do everything I was told. My feelings did not matter, and I was just the woman who would be called to warm Ardan's bed whenever he wanted.

I was probably among those whose fate was to prepare other people's wedding dresses. Pain and displeasure were etched beneath my chest as I carried on. There was so much to do. I cleaned up the living room quickly and headed to the kitchen.
