Chapter 5 Are You James?
Emily usually relied on height, build, voice, clothing style, and even perfume scent to remember different people.
"I'm sorry, I don't quite get what you mean. I won't bother you anymore. I'll be leaving now."
Emily guessed that, although she didn't know which floor she was on, in the school, the higher the position, the higher the floor they lived on.
And here, it was definitely much higher than the eighteenth floor.
Emily nodded, quickly turned around, and walked towards the elevator.
Seeing James and Tyler still watching her, she even gave a polite smile before closing the elevator door.
Once inside, she realized, damn it! She still didn't have an elevator card!
Would she have to knock on the door and ask those two cold men for help?
Emily didn't dare.
The way those two men looked at her was strange.
Although it wasn't a gendered gaze, it certainly wasn't friendly or kind.
Emily felt helpless and squatted down.
"Bring her out."
James glanced at the elevator and then turned to sit on the sofa.
This was his private elevator.
If Tyler hadn't swiped his card earlier, how could Emily have come upstairs?
Stupid woman.
Her methods were new, but her brain wasn't enough.
"What's your name?" Tyler asked.
Emily quickly stood up and awkwardly replied, "Emily."
"Come in, Mr. Smith wants to see you."
"Mr. Smith?"
Emily looked up at the elevator's floor number.
88th floor.
CEO's office.
"What exactly are you here for today?" James asked, crossing his arms, exuding authority.
Emily lowered her head slightly.
"I'm the new secretary, Emily."
"Intern or assistant?" James continued to ask.
He wasn't surprised that the woman in front of him had the same name as his unseen wife.
After all, in Emerald City, the more common the name, the stronger the family behind it might be.
Because everyone would always remember the most outstanding person with that name.
Emily nodded.
"I was transferred from a branch office."
"Didn't anyone tell you who I am?"
Emily shook her head, then nodded.
"Speak up, don't you have a mouth?"
Emily forced herself to speak, "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry, it's my first day at headquarters, and I don't know the rules. I already heard from the receptionist that you have a cleanliness obsession. I used your restroom earlier. I'm really sorry! If you'd like, I can clean it for you now. If that's not good enough, you can deduct my salary. I can compensate you."
James didn't expect the woman to still be thinking about the restroom.
"Look at me," James suddenly said.
Then he spread his legs, resting his elbows on his knees.
This dominant and sexually charged posture made every woman who saw it unable to resist.
You should know, the least noteworthy thing about James was his angelic, handsome face.
Shallow women would even go weak in the knees directly in front of him...
Emily calmly looked at James.
Her expression was very composed.
James and Emily stared at each other.
He found that Emily looked like the mermaid princess from a storybook.
Her hair was especially beautiful under the light.
In terms of appearance, they were evenly matched.
Emily stared at James for half a minute, then furrowed her brow.
"Mr. Smith, why don't you suggest a compensation plan? If you really don't like me, I think I can leave headquarters right now. My former boss is probably still waiting for me at the branch office."
Emily adjusted her hair, staying calm and composed. She didn't throw herself at James, and even when she saw his face, she didn't blush. This was rare.
James was satisfied with the way Emily looked at him, but he didn't like her attitude. He was fed up with women who acted like they were entitled. But he had never been so ignored before.
"You messed up my restroom and still want to go back to the branch office?! Since you want to admit your mistake, you'll join the CEO's office as my personal assistant. If you don't do well, you won't need to go back to the branch office."
Emily wanted to say something, but James cut her off coldly, "Meeting in ten minutes."
After speaking, James stood up and took off his suit jacket. Tyler stood next to Emily, gesturing for her to leave. Emily, shocked by the cold attitude, was "ushered out" of the office.
Tyler handed his ID badge to Emily. "Emily, you're lucky. Take my badge to HR to get your onboarding form. Since you're transferred from a branch office, your probation period starts now. See you in nine minutes. Remember, Mr. Smith doesn't like people being late. Also, return the badge to me when you come back."
Tyler felt that Emily looked familiar. But he had been with James in Lumaria for a year, so it was impossible to have seen a new employee. But since Emily passed James's test, he didn't need to show a superior attitude to the newcomer.
Emily put on a gentle smile, hiding her excitement, nodded to Tyler, and then pressed the button for the eighteenth floor.
"Someone dares to skip work on their first day! I will definitely make her leave the Smith Group!" Alice counted the people and found Emily missing. Angrily, she addressed all the new employees.
Today, she deliberately didn't give Emily a temporary badge to make her look bad. It would be ideal if she felt out of place and unwelcome at the Smith Group, leading her to resign voluntarily. Sure enough, as she expected, Emily couldn't stay for half a day, and now she was considered absent. Great. One less competitor.
The other newcomers, unaware of Alice's position, dared not refute her; instead, they were silently grateful that they hadn't left their posts earlier. Holding in their pee was nothing; just to be able to work at the Smith Group, even if they had to poop in the reception room, they would dare to do it.
You should know, besides the good salary and benefits, James was the most handsome and wealthy man in Emerald City. And he was still single! So every woman who just joined the Smith Group had fantasized. Even some people who had worked at the Smith Group for two or three years had never seen James once. But they couldn't help treating other women as their rivals.
Alice threw a fit, showing off her authority, and then planned to take the interns to their departments. She turned around and saw Emily coming out of the CEO's private elevator.
"Idiot! That elevator isn't for people like you!"
Emily looked at Alice and nodded. She didn't want to argue on her first day at work. After all, ten minutes ago, she had just pushed James.
Alice was even angrier when Emily ignored her. "Hey! Are you blind?! Didn't you see I was talking to you? Forget it, you don't need to say anything, just get out! You're not welcome here!"
Alice sneered at Emily.
