Chapter 2 A New Beginning
"Ms. Johnson, unless there is a malicious transfer, business losses are highly possible. Legally, you cannot hold anyone accountable."
"Alright, I just need you to verify every item and transaction record. I need financial verification. Naturally, I won't hold anyone accountable for genuine losses, but if there's intentional asset transfer, I hope you can do something for me."
"Rest assured, and we have a family fund your father prepared for you. At ages 25, 35, 45, and up to 85, you will receive fund income. We have a long-term cooperation relationship, and our firm will ensure our client's rights are protected."
"I trust you."
Emily walked out of the law firm, spread her arms, and embraced the sun.
Great, she would soon be out of the shadows.
Emily eagerly called Bianca and then sent her job application to the Smith Group...
"Why is everyone applying to the Smith Group? We're the top company in Emerald City!"
Alice Baker from HR tossed a stack of resumes onto the table and took a sip of her coffee.
Her eyes lingered on the top resume, belonging to a new intern.
"Emily."
She looked like an angel.
How beautiful!
She must be here for James!
Everyone knew James was coming back.
Including Alice herself, who had joined the Smith Group because of James.
Alice's family was one of the top ten in Emerald City.
But aside from joining the Smith Group to get close to James, women like her had no chance of marrying him.
These shameless women!
No background and still want to marry into a powerful family?
Alice grabbed Emily's resume, ready to tear it apart.
Louis Cox walked over and snatched the resume from her.
"Are you crazy? This is the HR and Board Secretary's approved appointment letter for new hires! Mr. Smith is coming back today, and he might ask about this. Do you want to get kicked out of the Smith Group?"
Louis was the Executive Assistant at the Smith Group, overseeing the HR movements in the Secretary and Assistant departments.
He had heard that the big boss was coming back without any secretaries because he was extremely picky.
No secretary had lasted more than a month, except for Tyler, the Chief Assistant, who had been with James for years.
Before leaving, Tyler had specifically instructed Louis to find a new batch of secretaries for James, especially a qualified personal assistant..
Starting salary was $300,000 a month.
Honestly, Louis wished he were a woman; he was very tempted.
Louis knew Alice's family background and usually looked out for her, so he couldn't stand her causing trouble.
"Mr. Cox, with you and Mr. Thompson around, why do we need more secretaries? Look at me! Am I not good enough?"
"No!"
Louis, expressionless, organized the resumes, placing Emily's on top—she was his top pick.
Emily wasn't a newcomer. A year ago, she had passed the Smith Group's interview and was assigned to a branch office, where she performed exceptionally well.
If James weren't so picky, Bruce Howard, the branch president, wouldn't have let Emily go.
Bruce couldn't stop Emily's transfer, but he had a trick up his sleeve—he mixed Emily's resume with the newcomers.
He knew Alice was extremely jealous.
Seeing such a beautiful Emily, Alice would definitely not let her pass the interview.
That way, Emily would return to the branch office as his assistant.
Louis, as James's assistant, naturally investigated everyone around James.
Emily's year at the branch couldn't be hidden from Louis.
After investigating, Louis found Emily to be the perfect personal assistant for James.
She was stunningly beautiful.
More importantly, she had high professional knowledge and was fluent in three languages.
Her personal life was very clean; she never went out after work, not even drinking at company parties.
She kept a good distance from the men in the company.
Such a woman was one in a million!
She would definitely satisfy James.
As for Bruce's little trick, Louis didn't care!
Louis knew exactly how James's previous secretaries had left.
They wanted to sleep with James, and he despised that.
So, Alice's thoughts became disgusting to Louis.
"Why! Am I not pretty? It's just a personal assistant; I can do everything! I even have a chef's certificate! I can ride horses and play golf! I can keep up with Mr. Smith's schedule."
"Alice, out of respect for your family, I'll pretend this didn't happen today. But you need to know your place. If Mr. Smith finds out about your intentions, you'll be out of the Smith Group by this afternoon."
"By the way, a word of advice: don't show your intentions to Mr. Thompson either, or I won't be able to protect you."
Watching Louis take the resumes, Alice angrily slapped the table.
Fine, if Louis wouldn't help her, she'd handle it herself and get rid of these new bitches from the Smith Group.
There was still the job assignment process!
She had plenty of tricks up her sleeve!
Alice sneered and blew on her nails...
