Caroline
8 PM that evening, VIP ward.
I held Noah tightly, watching the figures gathering outside the door, my heart pounding like a war drum.
"Emily, open up." Michael's gentle voice came from outside. "We need to talk."
I took a deep breath and opened the door.
Michael stood in the doorway, followed by a middle-aged man with glasses and two burly orderlies. Even worse, the hallway was crowded with over a dozen hospital executives, nurses, and security guards.
"Emily, this is Dr. Williams, Chief of Psychiatry." Michael's voice remained tender. "You've been under too much stress lately. You need professional rest and treatment."
Dr. Williams adjusted his glasses and pulled out an assessment report: "After our comprehensive evaluation, the patient shows severe paranoid delusions. We recommend immediate hospitalization for observation."
Paranoid delusions?!
I let out a cold laugh: "So you're moving to silence me permanently?"
The two burly orderlies immediately stepped forward, ready to take me by force.
"Poor Dr. Emily..."
"Her postpartum depression is acting up again..."
"Her behavior has been really strange lately..."
The whispers around me cut like knives. Everyone looked at me with pity, as if I really were a mental patient!
"Wait!" I shouted. "You want to know the truth? Let me show you what real insanity looks like!"
I pulled out my phone and hit play without hesitation.
"Emily won't cooperate, we execute Plan B—involuntary psychiatric commitment!"
Sarah's voice rang out clearly through the entire ward.
Everyone instantly fell silent.
"Since Emily's in the psych ward, Noah's guardianship automatically transfers to Michael, the experiment can continue without any interference!"
Michael's voice made everyone present stare in shock.
"What? You changed the dosage on your own?"
"I deliberately increased Noah's dosage, hoping he'd die accidentally!"
When Sarah's recorded confession of attempted poisoning played, the entire hallway erupted!
"Oh my God..."
"They're experimenting on children?!"
"Head Nurse Sarah tried to kill a patient?!"
I continued playing with a cold smile: "Three children! Three innocent kids had already been murdered!"
The experimental reports, death data, bribe amounts—every detail made the medical staff present turn pale.
"And there's more!" I pulled out the photos on my phone. "Check stubs from Nexus Corporation! Evidence of death cover-ups! Want to see how much blood money your chief took?"
Dr. Williams stumbled backward in shock: "I... I didn't know the truth. They told me you really had mental issues..."
"Mental issues?" I pointed at Michael and roared. "This monster systematically murdered children, and you say I have mental issues?!"
Michael's face turned ashen: "Emily, what nonsense are you spouting..."
"Nonsense?!" Sarah suddenly screamed hysterically. "So what if it's true? Those dead kids were burdens anyway!"
Everyone stared at Sarah in shock.
She had completely lost it, shouting out of control: "I wanted Noah to die! That way Michael would be completely mine! Those test subjects weren't going to live long anyway—at least their deaths had value!"
"Sarah! Shut up!" Michael roared.
"Why should I shut up?!" Sarah laughed maniacally. "I love you so much it drives me crazy! For you, I'd kill anyone! Including this bitch's son!"
Everyone present was stunned speechless by Sarah's viciousness.
Several nurses covered their mouths in horror, and the security guards instinctively stepped back.
"You... you're monsters..." a young doctor said, trembling.
Just then—
A crisp slap echoed through the entire hallway.
The ward door suddenly burst open, and an imposing figure appeared in the doorway.
It was Dr. Margaret!
Dr. Margaret, the hospital's founder and legendary professor, walked in with ice-cold authority. Everyone automatically cleared a path.
"Michael Clarke!" Her voice was sharp as a blade. "You're a disgrace to the medical profession!"
When Michael saw Dr. Margaret, his face went white as a sheet: "Doctor... How did you..."
"How did I get here?" Dr. Margaret smiled coldly. "I heard someone in my hospital was conducting illegal human experiments, murdering innocent children!"
She surveyed the crowd, her authoritative gaze making everyone avoid eye contact: "As founder, I hereby officially announce—Michael Clarke is stripped of his position as Chief of Staff and will be immediately turned over to law enforcement!"
"No! You can't do this!" Michael screamed desperately. "Nexus Corporation won't let you get away with this! The board won't agree!"
"The board?" Dr. Margaret laughed mockingly. "You think I don't know you bought off those scumbags? Starting tomorrow, the board will be completely restructured!"
She turned to me, her expression softening: "You did the right thing, dear. I support everything you've done."
Michael completely lost it, screaming hysterically: "You'll regret this! Nexus has money! They have people! You can't fight them!"
"Security!" Dr. Margaret commanded. "Remove this scum!"
Several guards immediately moved to restrain Michael and Sarah.
As Sarah was dragged away, she was still screaming frantically: "Michael! I did this all for you! You can't abandon me!"
Dr. Williams trembled as he spoke: "Doctor, I really didn't know the truth... They deceived me into thinking Dr. Emily actually had mental problems..."
"Now you know better." Dr. Margaret said coldly. "Destroy that fraudulent psychiatric evaluation immediately."
The hallway finally fell quiet.
All the medical staff looked at me with awe, as if I'd instantly transformed from a "mental patient" into a hero.
I held Noah tightly, tears in my eyes: "Thank you, Dr. Margaret."
"Don't mention it, sweetheart." Dr. Margaret gently stroked Noah's head. "You saved this hospital and those innocent lives."
Just then—
BANG!
Urgent footsteps suddenly echoed from outside.
Dr. Margaret's assistant rushed in, face pale: "Doctor! We have a problem! There are several unidentified men outside the hospital asking for Dr. Emily's room number..."
My blood turned to ice.
Nexus Corporation's hitmen had arrived!
