CHAPTER 6

EVOLET

I can’t believe he showed up after turning me down.

And he’s small?

“You can shrink your size? What happened to your majestic form?” I asked, rising from the ground.

Cadell rolled his eyes at me but didn’t voice out. Seems someone is giving me the silent treatment. Still, I’m so happy that he’s here. I feel much better.

“What’s that wolf doing there?”

“Isn’t that a forest dweller? How did it get into the pack?” Voices mumbled, fixing their attention on Cadell, who they mistook for a mere wolf that dwells far from our kind.

I could hear the Beta ordering a guard to step in and take him away, only for my furious opponent to roar out in anger, coming at Cadell and me.

Quickly, Cadell pushed me out of the way as he dodged the werewolf, distracting it from attacking me.

With no hesitation, he went head to head with my opponent, fighting her like a mad dog. When I saw she was distracted, I immediately ran up boldly, climbing onto her back and wrapping my right arm around her neck.

And the moment I had a good grip on her, I felt that vibration again, with strength circulating through my body.

With force, I used that energy to toss my opponent to the ground, leaving her face flat in the dust.

I panted out, looking at the weak wolf who transformed back to her human form, declaring the battle over!

“Yes!” I heard Derby scream out in joy, as she clapped for me.

I was still amazed by the turn of events. I won the battle when everyone concluded I would fail.

When I stood straight, looking at the silent crowds with Cadell by my side… “YEESSS!!” The whole arena echoed with a satisfied audience chanting loudly at my victory.

This made me happy. I lifted my right hand into the air, smiling at my success.

I looked towards the Queen and Alpha Allen’s direction, and met them gazing in surprise.

“Seems this wolfless damsel stole the show after all.” I smiled, fixing my eyes on Allen, who had his gaze locked with mine, causing my heart to glow.

“That’s cheating!” Fiona shouted, stepping out. “She’s not the winner. She was helped by this nasty dog from the bushes. It’s against the rules!” she yelled, accusing me of cheating.

Cadell growled at Fiona while I glowered at her in anger.

She told the Queen and the people that I should be disqualified for my actions.

“You lost, Evolet. You are no winner,” she boldly said, crossing her arms.

Having had enough of her nonsense, I said, “That’s in your eyes, Fiona. But I know I won this battle without cheating.”

She rolled her eyes.

“There’s no rule in the game that says no mere wolves allowed. Yes, I don’t know if I’ll ever summon my wolf, but the goddess summoned one for me, and that’s my... my pet,” I said, squatting down to caress Cadell.

And he played along pretty well, acting like a normal wolf.

“I took care of this wolf when it needed someone. I never brought him here, but the goddess did. She sent a helper to stand by this weak omega’s side.” I smiled at Cadell, as he stared into my eyes, looking pleased.

“So, don’t vent your frustrations on me because you’re scared of what you just witnessed. I won,” I said, glaring at Fiona while rising to my feet.

She was mad at my words and still tried to get others to support her, saying, “The rule says every damsel should show off their wolves, not pets!”

“My Queen, isn’t that part of being a Luna?” she asked Queen Chriselda, stepping forward.

I looked at the Queen and saw how she stared at me in silence. The look in her eyes made me worried. Why do I feel as if she’s going to side with Fiona?

Just then, someone turned the tables in my favour. It was Derby!

“The goal is for every damsel to show the royal family why they should be crowned Alpha Allen’s Luna, and Evolet just portrayed that by doing what late Luna Violet did. She’s friendly with other creatures and taught us to be at peace with them. Evolet has just displayed that through this wolf. She never called it, but it sensed her worry and came over,” Derby said, silencing Fiona and the people.

I was marveled by her intervention. She’s a genius.

“Hmm, that’s true. She did amaze us with this animal,” the Queen said, considering Derby’s words.

And just like that… “The wolf can stay, since this damsel has displayed one of our late Queen’s attributes. Very impressive,” the Queen said, smiling at me.

Joy, I happily bowed at the Queen, dashing into Derby’s arms for a hug. She just saved my ass.

Fiona was mad to hear this. She walked out of the arena in anger, glaring at us.

I boldly stared back at her, knowing that she can no longer torment me because I can’t summon my wolf. I have Cadell with me, and he will help me in every other game to come.

After the battle, the damsels that won were assigned to stay in special rooms prepared for us by the Queen.

As we were making our way to the mansion, I spotted my mother standing at a corner, looking directly at me.

“Mom,” I uttered, feeling emotions engulfing my body. I never thought she would come to watch the game. I felt so glad to see her.

Leaving the others, I rushed up to Mom and gave her a hug, which she didn’t refuse, even though she didn’t hold me back.

“You came.”

“Hmm,” she muttered, slowly pushing me off her body.

I gazed at my mother and saw anger in her eyes. She’s still upset with me for going against her.

And to show I was sorry, I took hold of her hands and apologized for my disobedience. “I know I’ve wronged you, Mom, but… but I made it in. And if I make it at the end, I’m going to…”

“You really don’t know what you’re doing, Evolet,” she interrupted, swaying her head at me.

I couldn’t understand why Mom was being this way. She was still against my entering into the Luna hunt.

“One day you’ll understand why I don’t want you joining the royal game,” she said.

She was about to leave but paused on seeing wolf Cadell beside me, looking at her.

She stared at him for a brief moment and said to me, “Good luck.”

“Mom,” I called, but she walked away, leaving me heartbroken.

“I only want to make us happy. I…” I lowered my head in sadness, before feeling Cadell’s head touching my hand.

He cheered me with a smile before we both went to join the others, heading to our room.

.

“Your bedroom,” a maid of the mansion said, opening the door to a beautiful large space. I was mesmerized while stepping inside, admiring the interior and the big bed.

“Dinner will be ready by nine. Don’t forget, my lady.”

“Thank you,” I appreciated the maid, who left Cadell and me alone in the room.

When she left, I locked the door with the key, turning over to gaze at my new chamber. “Only me in this room? Wow!” I shrieked in delight, sitting on the bed to feel its softness.

While I was doing this, a curious Cadell, still in his wolf form, began roaming around the room like one who was searching for something.

“I forgot you’re here as well,” I said, rolling my eyes at him.

“What are you looking for?” I asked, noticing how he checked the bathroom, behind the bed, before the door.

“You know, I like you better in this form than your human self. Wolf you is obedient, unlike the real you,” I chuckled, leaning back a bit.

All of a sudden, Cadell faced my direction and dashed at me!

“AHH!” I screamed when he jumped right on my body, pinning me down in bed. That’s when the room went dark in an instant, and wolf Cadell was now in his human form, staring into my eyes with a cunning smile on his face.

My whole body shivered at the sight of his charm, as he used one hand in pinning both my hands above my head, gazing into my eyes in the darkness.

“I believe you owe me something.”

“Wh… what’s that?” I stammered, still lost in our stare.

That’s when I felt his hand slowly caressing my lips, whispering, “A kiss.”

My heart leaped when I heard that from him.

His eyes shimmered with delight, with his head slowly lowering down at mine, taking hold of my chin, with his lips about to touch mine.

I couldn’t voice out or stop Cadell. His charm left me speechless, stealing my voice.

And just when our lips were about to connect… “Evolet!”

“Derby?” I recognized the voice that called me from outside. It got my senses back.

With force, I pushed Cadell aside and ran towards the door in the darkness. When I turned around to tell him to change, the darkness vanished immediately.

Cadell sat on the bed in his wolf form, narrowing his eyes at me.

Thank the Goddess for sending Derby. I would have kissed this perv!

I opened the door and allowed her in. She was happy with our rooms, screaming in excitement.

But when she tried to pet Cadell, the crazy fellow growled at her, hiding at my back.

“Aww! He likes his mommy!” she giggled, while I frowned at this drama queen.

“Yeah, he does,” I said, looking at a pleased Cadell.

He’s enjoying this.
