“Cash, this… whatever is happening between us has to stop.”
“Don’t say that. Look at me, baby.”
“Cash, please… I…”
“Shhh. Just let go.”
“I’m old enough to be your mother.”
“You’re the only one who truly sees me.”
His hands slide to my waist, pulling me closer until his lips brush mine, soft, lingering, and intoxicating.
He lifts me effortlessly from the floor, and I wrap my legs around him.
“Cash…”
“No more words, baby.” He kisses me deeply, carrying me to the bed with me still in his arms. His fingers slip beneath my shirt, and I melt completely into his touch, but…
The door bursts open.
Cash jerks back, pulling the sheets over us just as Virginia storms in, eyes blazing.
“How could you do this to me?! We’re getting married!” she shouts, her voice breaking.
“Virginia, I can explain,” Cash says quickly.
I clutch the sheet to my chest, scrambling out of bed, nearly revealing a half-naked Cash.
“Explain what?” she demands, her voice trembling. “You have your tongue down the throat of your father’s wife and you want to explain?”
“That’s not what it looks like…”
She turns to me, eyes blazing “I’ve loved him for years! You know I have!” Tears spill down her cheeks. “You promised me…”
“Virginia…”
“We had an agreement! He’s mine!”
“Virginia, you can’t marry Cash.”
Her eyes narrow, fury cutting through her grief. “Who the hell do you think you are to tell me what to do?”
I take a breath, my voice low. “Because he’s your brother.”
