5. Mate
CHAPTER FIVE
Kaylan's Pov
I didn't know whatever scent it was that woke me up from my deep slumber but it smelled so good and intoxicating, damn! My heart was beating rapidly as I stood up and craned my neck but the drip on my body sent me back to the bed.
What the hell happened?
I tried to recall but my whole body was burning with the need to quench this hunger and look for this scent that was calling unto me all of a sudden.
My head pounded in pain as the memories flooded in and hot tears welled in my eyes.
Those brothers will kill me for making a mess at the Pack's meeting.
It's already too surprising that I'm being treated and staying in a nice room when I'm supposed to flee for my pathetic life.
"Fuck! What the hell is this sweet smell?" I growled and removed the drip connected to my skin.
"I must find this scent before I leave!" I muttered under my breath and stood up, fighting back the urge to lick the air that smelt like chocolate berries and strawberries with a mixture of wild sunflowers, sending butterflies to my stomach at the thought of finding whatever was behind it.
My wolf was damn eager too, I frantically scanned my body with my hands to be sure the Wolfbane was secretly stuck in the side pocket of my inner wretched clothes and stormed out.
The smell grew worse as I clutched my clothes tighter and shook my head.
No! This was purely a distraction and I need to fight it and find my cue to leave or my head will be rolled and I will continue the difficult task of choosing between two devils.
I descended the staircase and wondered who mistakenly put me up in the Pack's guest room.
"Where are you going?" My legs wobbled and I rolled down the stairs, breaking my ankle in the process to face Cypher whose countenance expressed shock.
"I…" I swallowed hard and bowed.
"I was going to the kitchen!" I blurted out and he came closer and yanked me close till my body slammed on his and sniffed me before pushing me away suddenly.
"What the hell?" He cursed and I felt the strong force that compelled me to him and my skin burned at his touch. That silly smell that got me enchanted was stronger than before and my wolf howled in deep want and need.
"Mate!" She growled and I knew I was doomed.
No way please, not him!!
Hot tears slipped down my eyes as his eyes blinked in confusion. He was looking for something too, I could feel it. I'm sure he came here because of the scent.
Cypher was trying so hard to contort his shock but he just couldn't.
I made to say something to cause the silence was too much for me to handle and he cursed so loud in regret.
"I reject myself as your mate!"
I blurted out and he punched the wall hard as if he was in raw pain.
"You didn't only two-timed me with my brother but you're my fucking mate!" He roared out in anger and slapped me hard.
"Who said you could reject yourself, what the fuck are you doing to me, you sly wolf?"
I couldn't say a word but let the tears flow. Of all the men that existed in the universe, the moon goddess decided to bless me with a beast.
He looked disappointed and my wolf howled in pain, sending my heart into fury, his dark aura illuminated the hall light as he looked around to be sure no one heard what transpired between us.
"Not a word should be heard about this!" He warned coldly and I nodded. "And you remain my Luna when the moon goddess arrives."
I bit my lips hard and nodded till he left my sight.
I managed to stagger to the entrance of the royal hall before letting go of my heart in hot tears and cursing my existence over and over again till I wiped my tears.
I would fight it and steer clearway from him, being close to him was a sin but being a mate to him was even a curse on its own.
"Kaylan!" A loud voice echoed my name as I shrieked in fear when the maidservant stood before me.
"I can see that you're awake, Alpha Gareth demands your presence now but before that, go and clear those mess you left in the pretense of collapsing!" She yelled and I nodded.
"Don't nod at me!" She dragged and twisted my ears painfully and I screamed.
"Yes, yes I've heard please!"
I muttered and she still dragged me along.
How could I have survived if the wolf's bane bottle had dropped out that moment I had fallen, she would have hung my throat in the air.
The kitchen was a mess as my wolf coiled in torment. Not a single time where I get to rest in my life, all chores meant for the maids were heaped on me since I was the forbidden one in their sight.
I had almost bent down to start my endless painful journey of chores when the Beta walked in and gasped.
"What are you doing here Beta?" Layla bowed, acting all concerned like a mother
when she was a witch in disguise.
He looked from the heap of plates to the messy Kitchen to me before staring back at Layla.
"Where are the other maids?" He inquired and frowned.
"Uhmm..I'll call them, do you need anything?" She asked, batting her lashes.
"Of course I do, I'm thinking of replacing your position with another person so you'll learn how to assign duties correctly." He fired.
She gasped and he turned to me, darting his gaze to the plates I was holding.
"Drop it and follow me immediately."
I sighed in relief and walked after him, at least I can save my strength.
He looked so disturbed and worried that I was forced to ask what was wrong. Zane was always the cheerful type but right now he looked as if he had seen a ghost and couldn't recover from the shock.
By the time we reached the royal hall, he pinned me to the wall in anger and stared at me with total disdain which made my heart jump in harsh beats.
"What the fuck did you do to Cypher?" He asked every word with spite that I furrowed my brows in confusion.
"I don't understand." I choked on my words.
"Tell me!!" He yelled and flickered his eyes around. "He slumped on the floor right after he had a conversation with you, what the hell did you do?"
I gasped in shock and covered my mouth with my trembling hands.
