Sickness and Health

“Maybe she will speak to me if you leave us alone.” Dr. Stallers looked between the couple. He could see that Alex didn't want to leave his wife. Understandable when she wasn't feeling well.

“I will not leave her.” Alex almost roared at the doctor. A gentle hand on his arm forced him to look at his wife. She needed for him to stay calm not roaring at people like an animal.

“Alexander I will be fine. The doctor will take good care of me. How about you go and get Travis to send our regrets to the Helmes.” Dorcas smiled at him when he finally calmed down.

Alex kissed her on the forehead before leaving the room. Twenty minutes later he walked back into the room to see his wife in tears. The doctor was putting his things away looking grim. He rushed to the bed to hold Dorcas. Alex felt the anger roar to life at seeing her cry.

“What the bloody hell did you do to my wife?” Alex jumped toward the grabbing the doctor by the shirt pulling him in close. He couldn’t stop the anger that poured out of him.

“Alexander please.” He looked down at Dorcas seeing that she had a slight smile on her face. He couldn't seem to understand the mix signals she was giving him.

“Lord Chetwood, your wife has asked me not to speak to you.” Dr. Slatters stepped away from the over angry lord. He didn’t take it personally. He would do the same if it had been his wife.

“WHAT?” Alex yelled, not meaning to make the doctor jump but instead sat on the bed with Dorcas.

“I am sorry, but I have to listen to my patient.” Dr. Slatters told him as he side stepped exiting the room.

Alexander started to move off the bed, but stopped when Dorcas grabbed his arm. He turned to look at her and felt his heart break. Something was happening and he was being kept in the dark. He didn’t like it at all.

“I will take my leave.” Before he left he looked at Drocas. “You need to speak to Lady Chetwood about this.”

“I know. Thank you for coming out.” Dorcas nodded toward the doctor. Fear was written all over her face.

“Travis will see you out, and take care of your payment.” Alex explained then added. "I am truely sorry for being a brute."

Alex watched at the doctor left closing the door behind him. The fire had warmed the room a little too much, but he stayed by his wives side.

That night they never did get to talk about what was going on. Dorcas fell asleep shortly after the doctor left. Alex watched her with worry in his heart and mind. He didn't know if he could live without this woman in his life. She had changed everything about him. In such a short time he knew that his life wouldn't be the same without her. Alex was jumping to the doom and gloom. What else could it be?

That night would be the one that sent him over the edge and into something much darker than he ever thought possible. Love can change you in so many ways. The biggest issue with jumping to conclusions is you might just get the whole things wrong. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing that was happening. Then again bad things happen to good people all the time. Alex knew this and didn't want to hear anything more about it. In the long run he sat on his wives bed watching her sleep for so long he started to nod off almost falling to the floor. When he left the room to get to his room he felt terrible. Stumbbling into his room he fell face frist on his mattress, which he normally shared with Dorcas. The nightmares came that night keeping him from having a good nights sleep.
