Abandoned
Aria's POV
Slipping out into the hall, I kept low and silent. My bare feet made no sound on the cold floor. The corridor stretched in two directions; one led into darkness, the other toward a faint yellow light.
I followed the light.
Every door I passed was closed. Some looked older than others... chipped paint, rusty hinges. Wherever I was, it wasn’t some high-tech fortress. This place felt… abandoned. Like an old warehouse converted into something darker.
I reached a corner and paused.
Voices.
I pressed myself against the wall, barely breathing.
"...the boss said she stays in that room. You didn’t untie her too early, did you?"
That voice; I recognized it. The guy with the tired eyes... The othee one that came with Luca.
“She was struggling,” another voice replied him. This one was the man who untied me. “I figured she’d tire herself out faster if she wasn’t tied up like a dog.”
“Well, let’s hope that doesn’t come back to bite us.”
"No, the boss asked for her to be untied. She's crazy, but I doubt she would be crazy enough to want to escape."
I raised a brow.
Now why the hell would I be crazy enough to stay in here?
I ducked into the nearest doorway. It opened with a soft creak. I winced. It was dark inside, but I slipped in and pressed myself into the shadows.
Almost there...
Two men passed by seconds later. I could make out only their silhouettes; one taller, broad shoulders, walking with a purpose. The other lagged a little behind, rubbing the back of his neck.
They didn’t see me... I hope.
I let out a slow breath.
I was in what looked like a storage room; rates, tarps, broken furniture. I scanned the space quickly...there was no windows, and only one door.
I moved slowly until my leg brushed on a table.
It was dark out.
Too dark, I could barely see anything.
Using my hands, I searched around the table, feeling it for anything, anything at all that couod be of use..
My hands grabbed something and I picked it up.
My eyes lit up as I brought it closer. "A fucking phone."
Frantically, I turned it on, my heart beating loudly in my chest.
From the texture, and the size, I had feeling this was...
"Oh Jesus... It's my phone." I cried out in joy when the lock screen popped out.
It was my damn phone.
I operated it with ease, moving towards the call icon on the phone.
Not all hope was lost yet.
With a new surge of hope, I dialed my father's number.
My heart beat was fast, irregular.
8 was feeling anxious.
Biting my fingertips, I turned around to check if there was anyone present in the room witb me.
"No one."
It was empty.
My old didn't pick up.
Maybe he's just scared that it wasn't me... Or maybe he didn't see the phone call.
I thought to myself, taking in a deeo breath.
With my trembling hands, I dialed his number again and placed the phone on my ears.
"Pick up your damn phone!" I half yelled, half cried, frantically biting my fingertips.
Finally...
I heard a beep.
It had connected.
"Dad? Dad."
"Aria, you have 30 seconds to speak before this call is disconnected." My father's cold voice came from the other side of the phone, and I blinked in shock. "I don't want to be traced."
He knew I was kidnapped.
But he... What wasn't he trying to rescue me?
I refused to believe it.
"Fine." I agreed with gritted teeth. "Someone named Luca kidnapped me Dad. He said it was something you did to his family..." I said in a rush.
"I don't know where I am," I tried to look around, but everything was just to dark for me to make sense of it. "...but it looks like an abandoned..."
"That's enough Aria." My father's cold yet anxious voice interrupted me. "We have less than 10 seconds to end this call."
I froze for a second.
My... My father didn't even care about where I was.
No.
My father was cruel, but he wasn't heartless.
"Dad, this man might be dangerous." I tried to reason with him, but my father's answer shocked me.
"He is."
He fucking knew!
"Then why aren't you trying to rescue me?" A tear slid down my cheeks. This... This wasn't real.
How could a man who I had considered my father leave me for dead because he was scared?
"Because I can't. Luca doesn't really need you, he is after me. I can't allow myself to get caught." His next words confirmed it.
All I could feel at that moment, was anger, disappointment and disbelief.
My throat crocked and a sob escaped. "Dad..."
Before I could make out the rest of the words, the call got disconnected.
"I hate you." I muttered slowly bringing my hand down from my cheeks.
I hate him.
I hated him so much.
I exhaled, blinking severally to at least try and control the tears that poured out from my eyes.
Luca had said it before... My father wasn't coming.
But I was naive and stupid.
I thought he was going to rescue me even afte ehe refused to show his face at the wedding.
I was wrong.
Clenching my jaw, I opened the map app.
If my father wasn't going to get me out of here, I would just have to do it myself.
To my surprise... Well, it wasn't that much of a surprise to me, but...
The place didn't show on the map.
It wasn't on the map.
What was I thinking? That Luca would bring hus hostage to a place on the map?
But the map at least showed that I was still in the city. I couldn't be that far.
"I'll just have to escape this place on my own." I murmured stuffing my phone into my pockets. Slowly I creeped out of the room, making sure not to make a noise.
I couldn't see much, but I remembered where the door was, so it wasn't that hard.
"She must be in here!"
I heard someone suddenly yell and my legs froze. Everything around me froze, even the music in my ears.
The voice sounded as though the person was close to me.
I tried to hide, my eyes darted around for an escape, but as soon as I moved I heard the voice again.
"Isn't that her?"
"It is, get her!" His college answered.
"Fuck!"
Fuck it.
I ran.
It was impossible to hide now. I didn't know where I was and if there were any hiding spots, so I ran.
I tore through the fields... Which I surprising just found out I was on, my chest beating so fast I thought it was going to collapse.
"Don't let her escape!"
The voices were getting closer now...
What could I do?
My feet arrived at a cross road, I didn't think... Just moved.
I kept running until...
"Argh!"
