Chapter 8 Slip Away Unnoticed

"Jealous? Lila, you think I like you?" Killian laughed, but there was a chill in his voice.

"Then why are you so mad, saying stuff that sounds like jealousy? Of course, people are gonna get the wrong idea."

Lila subtly shielded her stomach. She knew Killian's anger was all about Emily. She had said that just to throw him off.

Killian despised the child she was carrying, so she had to tread carefully.

The elevator doors opened, and Lila quickly stepped around Killian to get out. "If there's nothing else, I'll be on my way."

"Hold up." Killian stepped out, remembering why he had come to find her.

"Grandma said you're pregnant? Did you tell her that?"

Lila froze, recalling how Killian had previously threatened to check the pregnancy himself. A shiver ran down her spine.

Killian moved to face her, his gaze intense. "Maybe Grandma just really wants me to be pregnant, so she's always thinking about it. Didn't you check last night?" Lila's eyes flickered as she tried to hide her fear and deceive him.

"You're shameless." Killian sneered.

Lila forced a smile. "Just kidding."

"Grandma said you moved out. At least you have some sense."

Killian glanced at Lila's stomach with disdain. "I'm only doing this because of Grandma. She wants me to take care of you, but I don't want to end up taking care of you in some other guy's bed. The house in South City is empty. I'll have my assistant take you there. And don't say too much in front of Grandma."

Lila was taken aback by Killian's words.

She had been worried about where to go since Silas knew about her previous place. She feared a repeat of past incidents.

She needed to stay away from Silas, but he wouldn't leave her alone.

Killian finding her a place was a godsend.

Lila was genuinely grateful and thanked him sincerely.

With nothing else to discuss, Lila planned to leave.

Killian's gaze fell on a car downstairs, and Lila noticed Silas hadn't left.

She frowned, remembering the lies she had told Silas in the car. How was she going to cover them up?

Silas was someone Lila knew well. He would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

If he found out she was lying, who knew what he would do?

"What, can't bear to leave your sugar daddy downstairs?" Killian mocked.

Lila's lips moved, unsure of what to say. Killian's gaze was icy.

"I have nothing to do with Silas. He's not my sugar daddy. I can't escape his harassment." Lila explained to Killian.

Anyone could see who had ulterior motives. Killian seemed smart and wise, but in reality...

"I have something with Silas..."

Before Lila could finish, Killian's phone rang. He glanced at the screen and walked past her without hesitation.

Lila heard him say, "Emily."

Standing there, the words she wanted to explain stuck in her throat.

Emily had impeccable timing.

Every time, right on cue.

Lila's lips curled into a mocking smile. It seemed today wouldn't end well.

Lila stood upstairs, looking down at Silas's car, her expression cold.

"Miss Voss, Mr. Hart asked me to take you to the house in South City. Shall we go now?" The assistant appeared silently.

Lila paused, then nodded, regaining her composure.

The assistant led her to the underground garage, where they got into a car and drove to the new place.

Lila had just put her things down and was about to head out for a prenatal checkup when she got a call from Silas.

"Where are you now? How did the talk go?"

"I'm at the office, still talking." Lila was a bit taken aback.

Was Slias still waiting for her?

"Lila, don't lie to me. Killian drove off. What are you doing at the office?" Silas's tone was displeased.

"I'm in Killian's car. We haven't discussed terms yet. Killian went to see his girlfriend, and I'm on my way to see Mrs. Hart. Killian's in a bad mood today, so it's not a good time to talk about cooperation." Lila deflected.

Silas wanted to say more, but Lila hung up and headed to the hospital.

The checkup showed no major issues, just some bruising on her back. The doctor advised her to rest well.

Lila nodded, disposed of the prenatal checkup documents, and went to see her grandmother.

The nurse caring for her grandmother told Lila that the heart monitor showed normal readings, and there was no immediate danger. They just had to wait for her to wake up.

Lila stayed with her grandmother for a long time before leaving.

As she reached the entrance, she received a message from her friend Sarah Davis, asking if she had considered the part-time job she had mentioned earlier.

Lila thought for a while and agreed to the money.

As soon as she agreed, Sarah sent her the details of the gig.

Seeing the address, Lila frowned.

A bar?

Lila asked Sarah why it was at a bar.

Sarah scoffed.

Did Lila still think she was the Voss family's princess? This place was decent enough.

But in her message, Sarah was more tactful. It was a quiet bar, and playing some live music could attract customers and earn good tips.

Sarah's heart was filled with jealousy and darkness. Why did Lila get everything?

Back when Lila was the Voss family's princess, Sarah couldn't afford to offend her. But now, with their statuses equal, why should Lila still be above her?

They were the same, no distinctions.

Hearing about the good tips, Lila bit her lip and agreed.

Lila's performance was a success. Her presence brought in more customers.

The manager was pleased and gave her extra tips.

Lila worked in the afternoons and rested at home during the day.

That night, after finishing her performance, Sarah approached her.

"Lila, I'm not feeling well today. Can you deliver some drinks to room 606 for me?" Sarah clutched her stomach.

Lila hesitated. Sarah had agreed earlier that she would only perform, not serve drinks.

"I got you this job. I suggested you serve drinks before, but you didn't want to. I didn't push you. Now I'm not feeling well. Can't you help me out?" Sarah frowned, blaming Lila.

Lila looked at Sarah, who seemed genuinely unwell, and reluctantly agreed.

Lila was about to deliver the drinks directly, but Sarah insisted she change into a bartender's outfit.

Lila refused, but Sarah pleaded, saying how hard things were for her. Lila had no choice but to change.

As Lila disappeared up the stairs, the weakness on Sarah's face vanished.

Her eyes were filled with malicious glee.

Room 606 was full of rich playboys. Seeing Lila's look, who knew what might happen?

Sarah wanted Lila to fall, to sink into the same depths as her.

High and mighty?

What a joke!
