Chapter 3 Silas Visits
Lila hadn't forgotten what Killian said last night.
Before Eleanor Hart could start scolding Killian, Lila softly said, "Mrs. Hart, I need to visit my grandmother today. Can we reschedule?"
Eleanor Hart looked at Lila kindly, "Of course, anytime is fine, as long as you marry Kilian."
Lila touched her stomach, feeling a mix of joy and sadness. Remembering Killian's words from the previous night made her feel weak.
Lila planned to go to the hospital for a check-up.
As she reached the hospital entrance, a servant from the Hart family called, asking where she was.
Lila said she was going home to get something and hung up. She didn't plan to return to the Hart family tonight but instead went to her small rented apartment.
The area around her apartment was in poor condition, slated for redevelopment soon, so many basic facilities were neglected.
Lila arrived at her apartment door, which was covered in knife marks and dents from debt collectors over the past six months.
Fortunately, after paying off the five million dollars, those people stopped coming.
Lila took out her key and entered.
As she entered, there was a knock on the door.
"Lila, open up!"
Lila didn't move or respond. She recognized Silas's voice.
"You want to leave me? Tell me you're not pregnant! Lila, open the door!"
Silas's voice was almost manic.
She thought Silas would leave after knocking for a while, but he unlocked the door instead.
Silas stood at the door in a white tracksuit, next to a bald locksmith.
"Thanks, man. You've been a great help. Now I can make up with my girlfriend."
Silas stared at Lila like a predator, handing the locksmith a wad of cash.
"Young lady, your boyfriend is nice. Forgive him. He even hired me to unlock the door to apologize."
The locksmith took the money and left, trying to persuade Lila.
Lila was stunned by Silas's actions.
"Lila, I told you to move in with me. This place isn't safe."
"Get out," Lila said coldly.
Silas stepped inside and closed the door. "Lila, let's go get rid of the baby, okay?"
Lila sneered, "Silas, what do you want?"
At the hospital, Silas had wanted to strangle her.
"Get rid of the baby, and I'll treat you well. I was impulsive before. Let's not hold grudges, okay?"
Silas knelt, looking at Lila. "I know you don't want to lose the baby, but I promise we'll have our children in the future."
Lila mocked, "Sure, you'll marry my sister and secretly have a child with me. Do you even know what you're saying?"
Silas had conspired with her stepmother and sister to ruin her family. Now he wanted to humiliate her further.
Years ago, Lila had to leave medical school abroad because of her stepmother, returning home to retake exams.
It was then she saw Silas for who he was.
Silas kept changing Lila's perspective. Silas had spent years pursuing Lila. After they got together, he hadn't touched her. Now, she had slept with another man and was pregnant.
Since leaving the hospital, Silas couldn't stop thinking about Lila.
He told himself he had no feelings for her, just a stubborn desire. If he could sleep with her, his feelings would fade.
So he came here.
Silas spoke softly, "Lila, let's not fight. Let's be like we used to be, okay?"
He held Lila's hand, and she looked down at him.
Silas's eyes were gentle.
Six months ago, Lila would have thought no one was better suited for her.
But now, she didn't believe a word he said.
Silas had destroyed the Voss family. Lila would never forget that.
She pulled her hand away, her voice calm, "Silas, I used to love you, but I regret it. How could I love someone like you?"
Silas clenched his empty hand, "If you won't listen to me, don't blame me for being ruthless. I'll make you get rid of the baby. You won't be with any other man!"
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you own all of Vesperhaven?" Lila retorted.
Silas kept his smile, "The Voss family's status has plummeted since six months ago. You'd better not try to provoke me."
He grabbed Lila's wrist, pinning her to the couch.
"Or I could sleep with you right now!"
He thought Lila, burdened with debt, would soon beg him for help.
But she had held out for six months, even getting pregnant by someone else.
"Let go of me!"
Lila struggled, but Silas held her down, tearing her collar to reveal her pale skin. "I've wanted to sleep with you for a long time. You're too disobedient. After tonight, I'll lock you up!"
Was Silas insane?
Lila had never seen him like this.
He had always been gentle, even at the hospital, only making threats. Now he was forcing himself on her.
A flash of murderous intent crossed Lila's eyes, and she slapped Silas hard, leaving his face red. Silas, enraged, was about to retaliate.
Then there was a loud bang.
Silas froze.
The door was violently kicked open.
Lila saw Killian standing outside, a cruel smile on his lips.
"Am I interrupting?"
"Mr. Hart?"
Silas recognized him instantly.
Why was Killian here?
Silas had tried to impress Killian at a Hart Enterprises bidding event, but the CEO hadn't shown up. Now, he was here in this tiny apartment.
