Chapter 5 Confrontation

"No need, I..." Sophia frowned slightly, her refusal cut short as she caught sight of Noah's serious expression. She knew Noah was determined to examine her, so she sighed and conceded, "Alright, fine."

Noah's expression immediately softened, returning to the gentle demeanor Sophia was familiar with.

He didn't release her hand, and Sophia didn't pull away. They walked through the hospital hallways hand in hand. Noah listed the tests he wanted to run while Sophia listened quietly, occasionally nodding in agreement.

"Don't worry, these tests won't take long. They won't delay you much," Noah assured her.

Just as the elevator doors opened, his voice carried to Jack Foster's ears.

Jack, tall and distinguished in his gray suit, strode out of the elevator, walking past the pair. He immediately recognized Sophia and turned slightly, watching the intimate scene of the two walking away hand in hand. His eyebrows raised with intrigue.

As Alexander's best friend and confidant, Jack occasionally visited the Kensington Medical Center to check on relatives and friends.

"Well, this is interesting," Jack muttered to himself, his eyes gleaming with mischief.

Smiling, he took out his phone and discreetly snapped a photo of the pair holding hands. He quickly composed a message to Alexander, making sure to include the photo as an attachment.

[Looks like Sophia is about to become your ex-wife, Alex.]

Meanwhile, at the Kensington family estate, Alexander had returned home unusually early. He sat alone in the living room, the vast house feeling eerily empty and cold.

His mood had been irritable all day. In the past, he would have tracked down whoever had drugged him, but this time, he couldn't focus on that.

What bothered him more was learning from the housekeeper that Sophia and Noah were close. The slightest development had brought Noah to her side. Even more infuriating was Sophia's genuine desire for a divorce.

Remembering the soft feeling of Sophia's body when he touched her last night, he felt an inexplicable palpitation.

Alexander frowned, running his fingers through his hair in frustration before casually checking his phone.

When he saw Jack's message, his expression instantly darkened.

The two figures in the photo were unmistakable—he had just seen them last night.

Alexander gripped his phone tightly, fury igniting in his eyes.

That intrusive Noah again!

The divorce wasn't even finalized, and she was already flaunting her intimacy with another man? Treating him like he didn't exist?

This woman had some nerve!

Suddenly, Alexander shot to his feet and violently smashed his teacup against the floor with a thunderous crash.

"Rufus, call Sophia right now!" he barked into his phone, his voice seething with anger. "I don't care where she is, I want to see her immediately! Tell her to get back here now!"

Rufus Chapman, his secretary, was startled by the outburst. "Y-yes, Mr. Kensington."

After hanging up, Rufus shook his head and sighed. "These two are impossible to deal with."

Alexander had Sophia's number but insisted on using him as a messenger. And just last night, before Sophia fainted, she had specifically told the estate manager not to call Alexander—but the butler had immediately called Rufus, who couldn't possibly keep such information from Alexander. In the end, Rufus had to call Alexander anyway.

Thinking about all this, Rufus felt nothing but weariness.

Half an hour later, at 10:05 PM, Sophia was brought back to the Kensington estate by Rufus.

"So you remembered how to come home?" Alexander's face was dark with anger, his voice cold as ice.

Sophia nodded impassively. "Yes."

She changed her shoes, her demeanor composed. "You urgently wanted to see me—have you decided to sign the divorce papers?"

At her words, Alexander's lips twisted into a cold smile. He was about to launch into a scathing retort when he suddenly noticed the small bandage on her nose.

"What happened to your nose?"

Perhaps it was Sophia's imagination, but she thought she detected a hint of concern in Alexander's tone.

"Mr. Kensington, you still care about me?" She smirked, her eyes meeting his with mockery.

With Elizabeth gone, she no longer felt obligated to keep secrets. Whether to tell the truth was entirely her choice.

Her sense of smell was damaged, and the full medical examination would reveal that. Noah had shown concern, giving her some ointments and medications. Sensing his genuine care, Sophia hadn't refused.

"Anyway, if you have nothing else to discuss and aren't planning to sign the papers, I'll go to my room and rest," she finally said.

Ultimately, Sophia decided not to tell Alexander the truth. She withdrew her gaze, her tone polite but distant.

"Sophia." Alexander moved closer, his tone suddenly ice-cold. "How much did Noah pay you? To make you so devoted to sleeping with him?"

Hearing this, Sophia couldn't help but laugh bitterly, her smile filled with contempt and anger. "That's quite an interesting accusation, Mr. Kensington. Not all friendships are as sordid as yours with Ms. Osborne."

"Am I wrong?" Alexander sneered. "Yes, I care for Lily, but at least I'm not as shameless as you two, getting intimate with someone else before we're even divorced. Truly disgraceful."

"Alexander, are you mentally ill?" Sophia frowned, her voice tinged with anger. "Are you genuinely stupid or just pretending? Who was most likely to have drugged you last night if not Lily? If you hadn't come home, do you have any idea what might have happened? And that's what you call not being intimate? Being virtuous?"

As Sophia spoke, her temple throbbed with pain. She took a deep breath, and when she spoke again, her tone had calmed somewhat. "I'm exhausted today and don't want to argue. Think what you will, but Noah and I have always been close. Happy now? If you have excess energy, go find your first love to release it."

She delivered each word precisely, giving Alexander no chance to respond before turning to head upstairs.

Alexander watched her retreating figure, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

Something wasn't right. This wasn't what he wanted to hear.

It shouldn't have been like this—where had things gone wrong? He truly couldn't understand. He didn't have feelings for Sophia, so why was he so angry?

"You forced me into this marriage, and now that you can't profit from it anymore, you think you can come and go as you please? What do you take me and the Kensington family for?" Alexander raised his voice, calling after Sophia. "The more you want a divorce, the less I'm inclined to grant your wish. You'll never be free of me in this lifetime."

Sophia paused mid-step. Without turning back or acknowledging Alexander, she continued on her way.

At this point, she could only conclude that Alexander had lost his mind.
