Chapter 4 My Name is Ronald

"What?" Adeline's eyes widened as she stared at Ronald in disbelief.

This man she'd had a one-night stand with, who suddenly turned out to be her boss, now wanted her to take responsibility for him?

Adeline rubbed her aching temples. "Mr. Williams, I thought when you left, it meant we wouldn't be in contact again."

"I didn't leave. I went to find a family doctor," Ronald replied, fixing his gaze on her.

He truly hadn't left. His phone had died, and there wasn't a charger in the room, so he'd had to borrow a power bank from the front desk.

By the time he'd contacted his family doctor and returned to the room, Adeline had already vanished.

To find her, Ronald had specifically checked the booking information, only to discover that his ID had been used for check-in, leaving no trace of the girl's information.

Just when he was thinking they might not be destined to meet again, Adeline appeared at his company.

The corner of Ronald's mouth curved slightly upward. "So let's go to the hospital first for a check-up, okay?"

His voice was gentle, his tone even a bit indulgent. Adeline found herself nodding before she could think.

She regretted it as soon as they reached the hospital. Ronald took her straight to the obstetrics and gynecology department.

At the hospital owned by the Williams family, she naturally received VIP treatment—three senior doctors smiling at her expectantly.

After being examined, Adeline's face turned crimson to her ears. She looked like a boiled lobster, hunching over and wishing she could disappear into a crack in the floor.

"There's some tearing, nothing too serious. Apply this medication morning and night," the doctor said gently, then glanced at Ronald. "First times shouldn't be so intense. Avoid sexual activity for now."

Adeline closed her eyes, wishing she could pass out right there and then.

Ronald maintained a perfectly calm expression. "Are there any oral medications? Any dietary restrictions?"

"Avoid cold, spicy, and irritating foods for now. Wait until she's feeling better. I've prescribed anti-inflammatory medication—it's oral."

After speaking, the doctor turned to Adeline. "Have you taken any medication recently?"

"Emergency contraception," Adeline's voice was barely audible.

The doctor thought for a moment. "Which brand? I need to check before prescribing additional medication."

Adeline resignedly handed over the morning-after pill from her bag. When Ronald saw the box, his gaze turned cold.

So that was the pill she'd been taking at the elevator, and he'd even handed her his water?

Sensing Ronald's anger, Adeline assumed he just didn't want complications. "The instructions say it's effective if taken within 24 hours. There's no chance of pregnancy!"

Seeing her nervous expression, Ronald looked away without responding.

The doctor gave a few more precautions before they finally left the hospital.

Perhaps because of the medication, Adeline felt the pain had subsided somewhat, but facing Ronald's cold expression made her increasingly anxious.

He couldn't possibly think she was trying to get pregnant to gain his favor, or that she knew his identity and had deliberately approached him?

Adeline admitted she'd sensed yesterday that he was someone important, but the alcohol had clouded her judgment—she'd just wanted to lose her virginity to a handsome guy, nothing more.

The thought of facing her one-night stand every day made her skin crawl.

Reaching the parking lot, she paused before getting into the car.

Ronald turned back, puzzled. "Not feeling well?"

"No, that's not it." Adeline quickly shook her head, then took a deep breath. "Mr. Williams, I didn't apply for the secretary position."

"And?" Ronald opened the passenger door, looking at her calmly.

Adeline felt intimidated and unconsciously licked her lips.

Noticing her swollen lips, which appeared slightly chapped, Ronald momentarily lost focus as he recalled the sensation of kissing them.

Seeing him silent, Adeline grew anxious. "If you hire me, I'd still like to work in the design department. I studied jewelry design."

"Adeline, I know." Ronald gestured for her to get in the car.

"What do you know?" Adeline looked at him curiously.

Apart from their intimate interaction last night, they'd barely spent three minutes together at the company today. What could he possibly know about her?

"Adeline, 23 years old, senior jewelry design student, two-time national jewelry design competition first prize winner, one international student jewelry grand prize winner."

Ronald's voice was soft, seemingly tinged with amusement.

When he saw Adeline at the company carrying a portfolio, he'd guessed she was there for an interview.

Elaine only had Adeline's resume, but Ronald had already investigated nearly everything about her.

He wasn't sure why he'd followed this woman yesterday, but he knew she was special to him.

Hearing his words, Adeline was stunned.

He even knew about some of her university awards details that weren't on her resume.

But considering his position, she relaxed a bit.

He probably had many women with ulterior motives around him, so it made sense that he'd investigate a one-night stand's background.

She'd just had two vials of blood drawn at the hospital—likely to check if she had any infectious diseases. Did that mean Ronald was disease-free?

"What's my name?"

While Adeline was lost in thought, Ronald asked an abrupt question.

Adeline laughed awkwardly. "Mr. Williams?"

"You came for an interview without knowing the company owner's name?" Ronald couldn't help but laugh at her response.

Adeline felt even more embarrassed.

She only knew the CEO of Opulent Treasures had the surname Williams but didn't know Ronald's full name.

And no one at the company had called him by name earlier. Adeline felt like she'd stepped on a tiger's tail today—she was doomed.

"Ronald. My name is Ronald. Got it?"

Ronald's gentle voice sounded again, and Adeline nodded repeatedly. "Got it, Ronald—no, Mr. Williams!"

She immediately stood at attention and repeated, "Mr. Williams."

Ronald sighed inwardly, then took her arm and guided her into the car.

"Mr. Williams, I—" Adeline had just begun to speak when Ronald suddenly leaned in. The familiar scent from last night enveloped her, frightening her into stillness.

She held her breath, her gaze fixed on Ronald's approaching face. She could see his long eyelashes and the hint of amusement in his eyes.

Ronald pulled the seatbelt across and fastened it for her, then chuckled softly. "It's a fine if you don't wear a seatbelt in the passenger seat."

Adeline exhaled, smoothing her hair.

Her heart raced like she was on a rollercoaster, pounding wildly in her chest.

After a moment, she suddenly realized she'd been about to discuss changing departments but had stopped mid-sentence.

At a red light, she turned to Ronald. "Mr. Williams, I think the secretary position—"

"The auction's about to start. Let's look at the items first and note down our targets."

Ronald handed her a tablet. The first image was of the Nebula's Heart, and Adeline swallowed her words.

How many people would never get the chance to see such royal treasures in their lifetime? She had to at least experience this.
