Terrible Mistake

Sofia

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Lucia asked me as we bypassed the security at the entrance of the club.

“Yes. Duh.” I made sure my voice was high enough for her to hear me properly over the loud pop song blasting from the different speakers situated at different corners in the club. We had sneaked out to party in the club and our families was unaware of this trick that we had played on them. My family thought I was currently at Lucia’s house for a sleepover while Lucia's family thought the both of us were still in her room.

Unknown to them, we had sneaked out through the window and out through the hidden hole in their backyard fence that only a few people were aware of.

“Don't you want to party?”

“I do but I'm not going to lie, Sof. I have a bad feeling about this.” Her facial expression conveyed her worried tone.

“Let's just relax. Nothing is going to happen. Besides, when did you become superstitious?” I playfully tackled her shoulder with mine.

“You are right. Let's just relax and have fun.” She shrugged like she was trying to convince herself that we were going to be alright.

If only Mama know what I had in mind when I told her I was going to Lucia's for a sleepover, she wouldn't have let me step foot outside the house.

“Now that's what I'm talking about. Yee-hay.”

God bless the DJ as he brought a chant that instantly sparked our party spirit.

“Can I hear you guys say, DJ Trinity we want to party!”

Lucia and I joined the crowd yelling out the chant as we danced our way to the dancefloor.

“I will be right back. I want to refill my drink.” Lucia yelled right in my ear, making me scrunch up my face.

A quick glance at her glass confirmed that it was almost empty.

“Alright.” I yelled back.

My ears were banging with each beat that came from the speakers.

“See you.” She mouthed, wriggling her fingers in farewell.

I danced comfortably by myself knowing fully well that Lucia will be back in a short while. If she took too long, ten minutes, that's if the line to the bar was full.

“Hey, are you alone?” A male voice spoke directly into my left ear.

I turned to check out the stranger that had the audacity to move behind me.

He was easygoing on the eyes, a typical handsome guy by New York’s standard. And if I guess correctly, he was likely to be in his mid or late twenties.

“I asked you a question?” His arched brow brought attention to his strangely attractive green eyes but I wasn't intrigued or in the least interested. I hoped my body language was enough hint for him to leave me alone.

“No I'm not and even if I was, I'm not looking for company.” I continued swaying with the beat, and my unwanted companion followed not missing one step.

I was here to forget my reality that had been forced on me and I wasn't looking to forget it by getting under someone.

“Lady, you don't have to be rude. It's not like I'm asking you to come along to my hotel room with me.” His brow wrinkled in slight irritation

“Then leave me alone.” I delivered with annoyance. What was it with these male species and them not minding their business?

“I.” Something strange happened in that moment.

The guy withdrew, his eyes and movements panicked.

“Remove your filthy hands from my fiancée.” That growling familiar voice had me looking back so fast that I almost had whiplash from my hair.

“Marco..” I breathed in shock.

His face was stoic and his eyes twitched with irritation, showing how unimpressed he was at finding me in this situation..

“Come with me.” His tone brooked no argument and I shut my mouth amid protest.

The one question that played over in my mind as I followed him obediently was, ‘what was he doing here and how did he know that I was here?’

Inside the office, I was sitting on the sofa petulantly waiting for Marco to finish his phone call with my brother.

Marco had called Luca, the minute that we stepped inside his office. Yes, his office!

Apparently the club that Lucia and I had sneaked to was owned by Marco De Santis.

How was I not aware of this? I lamented with regret in my head.

Lucia had been right about her feeling that this had been a bad idea. I should have listened to her. I could only imagine the type of lockdown arrest I will be sentenced to once I get home.

“Don’t worry. I will have two of my most trusted men drive them home.” He promised Luca before ending the call.

I swallowed, shifting restlessly on the sofa. Luca will be so pissed. Everyone will be so pissed, even Leo. Gosh, I was in so much trouble.

“Already regretting your reckless decision?” His glacier eyes pinned me to the spot.

“Where is Lucia?” I didn't respond to his former question but redirected it.

“My men are bringing her up.”

“Okay.” Looking away from the intensity of his stare, I sighed in relief.

“What were you doing here?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I came here to dance out my sorrows.”

“Drop that smart ass attitude with me. It won't get you anywhere.”

Before I could retort, we were interrupted by the door opening.

The door opened, revealing Lucia who was escorted in by two hefty men. She had a scared look on her face which instantly gave way to relief when she saw me.

“Oh, Sof. Are you okay?” She was at my side, immediately hugging me.

“Yeah. Are you?” She must have been confused when she didn't see me and being escorted somewhere she had no idea by two muscled, scary looking men.

“Nice of you to join us.

“Who are you?” Lucia finally noticed the gloomy male sitting at his oak desk.

“Marco De Santis.” Marco and I answered simultaneously.

“Oh dear lord.” She muttered.

“Both of you should get ready. My men will be taking you guys home.”

“How much trouble are we in?” She asked me.

“A lot.”

And I wasn't exaggerating. Lucia's lips quivered as she glimpsed the seriousness on my face.

That was going to be the first of many tears we were going to shed because I was sure

we were going to be under lock and key for a long time.
