Chapter 2: Raging wolf

Rogue Wolf’s P.O.V

My wolf howled inside my mind, drowning out every other voice in the vicinity.

My vision was red and I knew exactly what it meant…but I couldn’t do anything. I was no longer myself. I was no longer in control.

I was a rogue.

I tried my best to revisit old memories; comb through the fog that clouded me in from every direction, but I couldn’t move past the haze. All I could do was watch through the fog as my wolf ran through miles and miles of woods, searching…raging…

I could hear the ferocious noises that came out of my mind, feel the saliva dripping from the side of my mouth…and yet, I couldn’t do anything. I was a spectator inside my own body; almost like I was in a coma. Someone who could see everything, feel everything…but do nothing.

Why was I in this state? Why was I suddenly a rogue? How did I get here? Did I have anyone who had caused me to become rogue?

My mind was so jumbled that I had no idea what I was even supposed to think.

Suddenly, the forest in front of me gave way to a vast grassland and the smell of the sea hit my nose.

Sea? Water…

My wolf howled louder, angry to the point of insanity. An inhumanly growl left my lips as I looked around, my vision not entire clear or stable.

“Hey! Stop!”

A voice sounded from behind me and I felt myself go unnaturally still. My heart thrashed against my ribcage. This wasn’t a good sign.

“Identify yourself! Who are you?”

The voice came again and I prayed to whoever I believed in that the voice would go away. Why couldn’t they smell it? The stench of the wolf that had gone rogue? I remember hearing once that rogues had a very distinctive pungent smell. Then why didn’t he smell it!

But before I could react…the man placed a hand on my shoulder.

My wolf’s insanity spiked and in the blink of an eye, my body had turned towards the man and I felt my claws lengthen. The strike happened so fast that the man had no chance of escaping. My claws had sliced up his chest, splattering blood all over my face and body.

A scream escaped my lips in horror, but nothing came out of my mouth.

“Fabian!”

Another shot came from not too far away and my head snapped in my direction.

‘No! Please no!’

I begged my wolf, groveling and praying that it didn’t go after this man, but my wolf was beyond the point of comprehension. It was too late…

‘NOOO!’

I screamed just as my body jerked forward, moving with such incredible speed that I never thought I was capable of.

“No! Stop!” The man screamed at me, but I pounced on top of him instead with my claws bared and within seconds more blood splattered, all over me.

I heard a horrifying gargling sound as the man choked on his own blood. I desperately wanted to help him, to save him…but it didn’t matter. My wolf didn’t care.

And that was when I heard several howls go up in the air.

Oh god! I had entered pack territory.

And I had hurt two of their patrol guards…

There was no way I was going to survive this.

But my wolf didn’t care. The sound of the howls enraged it further. At this point everything around me was setting it off and I feared that the more rage I felt, the harder it was going to be to bring my wolf back from the edge…if I could ever get back anyways.

‘No!’ I told myself, firming my spine as my eyes drifted down to the injured man. ‘No!’

I couldn’t let this continue! I had to do something before this turned into a bloodbath. I couldn’t have any more blood on my hands!

My wolf growled as I heard shouts in the distance, followed by the sound of shots. Within a few seconds the entire clearing was filled with several people…and a few wolves.

I got up from the body and turned in circles, looking at ever one of the wolves. I was hoping that someone might be able to help me, but the growl that I let out the next moment had everyone pausing.

I was stuck in a state that was neither human nor wolf. My body was still that of a human, but my fangs and claws were extended and my eyes were red. But the most horrifying thing was that I was a prisoner inside my own mind.

To all the other wolves around me, I was an animal no better than a rabid dog…and in many ways they were right. My wolf, the other half of my soul…it was on the verge of insanity. And I had no way of helping either of us. But I refuse to give up. I was not going to die here, not today!

Four of the men and women came closer…close enough that my wolf wanted to rip them apart.

But enough was enough.

I couldn’t have any more blood in my hands…I won’t!

Just as my wolf went to pounce on the unsuspecting wolves, I grit my teeth and held my ground, using all the willpower I could master…causing my body to stand ground before I could pounce. Another earth-splitting growl left my lips, my wolf howling and biting at thin air, trying to break my hold.

It took everything I had to stop my wolf, to fight my other half…to stay sane for just a little while longer.

Another shot sounded and this time, a heavy net fell over my body, pinning me to the ground. I fell face first onto the hard ground, pain exploding in my head.

This was it…this was what I had wanted. Now the only hope I had left was that someone showed me some form of mercy…mercy that I didn’t show them.
