Hesitations

To my surprise, it wasn't Carl who had come back.

It was still a familiar figure, however.

Seeing her pronounced jawline and her beaked nose that unmasked the hostility in her sharp hazel eyes which she glanced indifferently at me with as she walked in, I instantly recognized her.

" Tsk!" she clicked her tongue and shut the door behind her.

It was the lady referring to me as 'human' when I was introduced by Carl at the dining hall earlier.

I thought it was weird when she leaned in and started sniffing at me back then, but I thought she was only being mean because she didn't accept me being Carl's girlfriend.

But now I understood just what she'd meant.

I didn't know if I should be sad or glad at the sight of her.

But just as she walked towards me, I noticed something and realized it was the former. She wasn't here to save me.

I didn't have much time left, I looked about in haste, confused as to what to do now!

" Please..." I begged as she approached with a rope in hand. I knew for certain I was going to be turned, so from here on, I could only try to grasp at anything to save myself.

She paused for a second staring down at me in silence.

I had no idea what I was doing, I had no idea what else to do. I just followed my instincts.

" I don't wanna be a part of this. I just want to go home. Please..." My eyes welled, threatening to break into tears. I looked deep into her eyes, searching for the slightest sign of pity in them.

I didn't want any of this, I had no idea this would happen.

I knew this woman probably wouldn't spare pity for me, but I just couldn't help but try. There was nothing else I could do.

I'm defeated!

Being a woman as well, she would understand my plight right?

Surprisingly, her cold and aloof face seemingly bordered between indifference and bother for a second.

" Give up and accept your fate" However, her words were short and cold, brutally delivered with no remorse.

I couldn't help but feel the tiny slit of hope I had vanish. I heard something break in me.

" Since you've been marked by him, you're his to claim." She said indifferently, walking near me to bind my hands with the rope.

I froze at her words, my heart thumping loudly as I gave thought to her words. I subconsciously looked down, searching through my brain for a way out still.

I couldn't care any less about the trickle on my face, these tears won't save me!

Just then, my eyes caught sight of the splintered shards in the corner and in a split second, a thought slowly formulated in my head.

I didn't resist her. Instead, I feigned being lost in a daze as I let her bind me with the rope.

I knew she was to bring me out of the room, and there was no way she'd bring me along with the bed. She'd need me to walk and as such, would have to remove the restraint on my legs.

And just as I thought, she tied the end of the rope to her wrist before removing a key.

Clang!

She unlocked the chain shackles with the key just as I'd thought.

My heart leapt in joy even as she dragged me out of bed by force.

I could finally see a chance at escaping!

However, I quickly calmed myself to focus on my plan. I have only one chance at this!

I stood groggily and walked behind her as she led me out, not minding the bed bugs, maggots, and filth on the floor.

I peered at the splintered shards from the craters in the corner, my heart racing in sync with the thought in my mind.

Two steps, three steps, four...

" Haa!" I lunged straight at her, raising and slamming my hands down towards the back of her head in an axe hold while screaming at the top of my lungs.

My fake warcry managed to catch her attention as she spun around to face me.

Such an inhumane reaction!

For a split second, I caught a look of shock on her face. However, she raised her hands and adeptly grabbed my hands that I swung down at her, letting go of the rope.

I feigned surprise, widening my eyes as I looked at her.

She looked back, craning her neck to the side. I could tell from the way she pursed her lips and creased her eyes that she was pissed!

And that's just what I wanted!

I quickly stepped in, moving to the side ensuring my back was to the craters and pushed at her.

" Nghaa!" She didn't budge, but I was relentless. All I needed back was just a little shove from her.

Just then, she freed her other hand and swung the back of it across my face!

Pa!

I didn't expect it, and the mere force behind it threw me on my behinds.

" Ah!" I cried out of my will, not knowing if it was the sting on my face, or the way I spun and crashed on the floor.

Realizing I had gotten what I wanted anyway, I quickly pushed myself to move towards the splintered shards on the floor, acting as though I was trying to back away from her.

I stopped when I managed to find one and quickly grabbed it, hiding it behind me. It's bristly jaggedness was reassuring.

Now, I just have to lure her in and wait for her to come closer.

I don't know much about werewolves. Heck! I don't even know if I'd be able to pull this off.

But still, I have to!

I watched as she tugged at her short leather jacket, looking down at me from where she stood. Her cold gaze oozing malice, ever condescending.

Still, I waited patiently. There was no need to rush.

The forever burning sting on my face from the slap only served to fuel my determination.

Once she got close, I would drive the splintered shard in my hands through her chest.

I don't care!

Feeling the slow trickle down my nose, I knew I was bleeding. However, I didn't pay it too much mind either.

This moment was all I had. I couldn't let any other thing distract me.

I feigned prey, lowering my head as I waited for her to come get me. But she just stood still.

I was confused.

Can she see the shard I held behind me? I wasn't so sure.

But considering her supernatural abilities being a werewolf, it's quite possible that she just might have...

Just as I pondered this, the door suddenly swung open and someone walked in calmly, a slight frown on his face at the sight of me.

I couldn't help but freeze in spot.

I had no idea someone was waiting outside the door. There's just no way I could beat two werewolves, even if they weren't expecting my attack.

My heart raced, not sure what to do now. I was torn between going through with my plan and giving up.

I wondered if I should drop the shard or try to hide it and wait till I had a chance.

Regardless, I couldn't make a decision as I feared there were more of them outside.

' Dammit!' I couldn't help but grit my teeth in frustration. I thought I had finally found someway to get myself out of this mess.

Regardless, I aborted my prior plan and focused on the next line of action!

I knew I couldn't beat these two and as such, it was only right that I gave up the plan to attack them while they had their guards down.

But first, I have to hide the wooden shard. It's the only trump card I have, and I can't let them discover it just yet.

" Feisty one eh, Selene?" I heard him ask. His hoarse voice betrayed the sarcasm in his tone.

" She attacked me." The ruthless Selene responded, emphasizing each word with her gaze latched on to me. She was clearly irritated.

The man creased his gaze in silence, as if falling into deep thought, " Anyways, let's get her to the hall. Michael has been waiting," he warned shortly after, peering a glance at Selene as he moved towards me, beckoning her.

Selene hesitated for a second before following behind him.

At this point, I had already figured something out.
