Chapter 5
Allie POV:
I woke up to a white ceiling and someone fanning my face lightly. “Poor thing, I’ve never seen a human go through the mating call. I thought she was just drunk!” A familiar voice talked over me.
“Well, she wasn’t, and now she’s your Luna, so maybe pay more attention,” another voice answered. “Ma’mm,” she came into view, the brunette from the bathroom. “I’m Hayley,” she introduced herself, helping me sit up.
I went to mumble a greeting, but my throat was dry. Hayley instinctively handed me a water. I nodded and gave her a smile of gratitude.
“Your sister is waiting for you in the living room. She’s very concerned,” Cami told me from the other side, still fanning me.
I nodded. Wait, no wait, that’s not what I need to know. Where was I? Who was that man? What did he do to me? Did she say mating call? Did that woman call me a Luna?
“You are our Luna,” Hayley explained, and I jolted back on the bed.
She sighed, grabbing the glass from me. “You are now our Luna. Our alpha, Greene, you’re his mate. He found you in the club and he marked you,” she gestured to my neck, and I moved my hand up to feel bandages over my collarbone and shoulder.
“How did you-“
“Wolves can hear each other's thoughts, and now that you’re our Luna, we can hear your thoughts,” Cami explained with a bright smile, still fanning me with a magazine.
“Okay,” I covered my eyes, trying to calm down.
“We brought you to our hotel room so you could sleep off the effects,” Hayley told me.
“ What effects?” I asked, but our attention turned to the doors as they burst open, my sister stomping into the room, furious.
“Yeah, the effects of your lunatic Alpha sinking his literal TEETH into my baby sister,” she huffed, peeling up the bandage and inspecting it. “You are lucky we aren’t pressing charges.”
Hayley stood up and crossed her arms. “What charges? He did his duty and claimed her.”
Jess met her energy and put her hand on her hip. “He mutilated her, and that’s doing his duty?”
“A wolf’s job is to claim to their mate, if he hadn’t, she could be in serious danger,” Hayley shot back.
“From who?” Jess grabbed me and stood me up. “Oh no no no no no! First, you suggest you take her away, and now you’re telling me she’s in danger,” she held up a finger and started walking me out of the room. “No, thank you, not today!”
“Take me away?” I asked aloud as Jess moved me towards the door.
A hand grabbed my other wrist and, without any pain or struggle, pulled me free from my sister and shoved me behind him.
A deep voice emerged from the man, “Are you trying to take my mate from me? I don’t think that wise choice. She’s human in a wolf world that makes her a target for any rogue with an ego.”
Jess looked over at him to me. “You’re not taking her back to your pack, her life is here.”
“She needs to be safe!” Greene argued.
“She’s fine here-“
“Hello!” I snapped. “Anybody in this room care what she is thinking. Anyone?”
The two of them shrank down a little. I looked over at my sister and held her hand. “We need to hear them out, if there is inherent danger, shouldn’t we hear what they have to say?” I reasoned with her.
Jess rolled her eyes, grimaced before marching over to the couch and sitting down. “Fine,”
I didn’t look at him, but I felt his eyes watching me as I made my way over to the couch. My skin prickled under his stare, and I tried to keep my head down, letting my hair fall and cover my blush.
He must have sensed my embarrassment, oh, right, he can read my mind. But he cleared his throat and sat away from me. “Sorry,” he acknowledged me with an apology.
“It’s alright,” I mumbled. I tried to keep my head clear as I shifted in my seat. “You said there was danger and I had to come with you?” I tried to sound as if I wasn’t freaking out but my voice still wavered.
“Human mates are notorious targets for pack enemies, and being the alpha's mate makes you a high-value target,” he started, and I felt like I was going to pass out again. I couldn’t imagine wolves being in my life yesterday, and now I was a target? “I don’t have any enemies per se, but there is always someone who opposes what my pack stands for, what all good packs stand for. Some might want you gone because you’re human, others…”
“I get it, there is now a whole host of reasons to off me, yay,” I stood up, covering my eyes, my head spinning as I tried to confirm this was real life.
Jess put her arms around me. “We can go right now, you don’t have to do anything.”
That wasn’t true, though, was it, if I was in danger and I stayed by my sister, that put her in danger.
“Exactly,” he said.
“Please stop that,” I snapped. I sucked my lips in, regretting my harsh tone. “I’m not-” I exhaled a heavy breath. “I’m not used to that, so please stop answering my questions before I ask them.”
“This is an adjustment. Why don’t you two stay here tonight and rest? Catch your breath before we leave,” Hayley suggested.
“Yeah, but you’re still planning on leaving!” Jess huffed.
“Jess,” I grabbed my sister's arm, defeated.
I wanted to argue as well, I wanted to stay with my sister. In my apartment, with my job and putting myself back together, but it seemed life had other plans. I knew that if I fought this, I would pay the price, the only rational thing to do was, unfortunately go with them.
I took my sister's hand and went back to the room.
“Jess,” I started, and she must have seen the look on my face.
“No, okay no!” She was furious. “I don’t care what is going on, that your life stared sucking this ain’t the answer,”
“You’re only saying that cause you’re angry,” I crossed my arms, it still stung.
Tears welled up in her eyes. “You can’t leave me,”
“I’m not. I’m just moving away, god knows where, but I’m not leaving you,” I hugged my sister tightly, tears streaming down both our faces.
“This is just the way life is going,” I held onto my sister.
“Life’s a bitch,” she held me tightly, heaving heavy breaths of denial.
We sat in the bedroom, and I promised to call her every day, text her everything that happened, send her all the photos, and when it was allowed. If it were allowed, she could come and visit.
“Here’s some pajamas Cami said, handing them to us and bowing her head to me. Jess grabbed the clothes from her, turning around and tossing a pair to me.
Jess’s eyebrows touched the top of her head. “You’re gonna love that,” she smirked.
I had never liked being the center of attention. I liked being on my own, doing my own thing, no interruptions, no opinions. Now I was some leader in some community that was probably tight-knit. I would be watched like a hawk and scrutinized by every single being there.
I lay awake that night, my sister snuggled up next to me. When would I see her again? How far apart would we be? What was he like? When would I come home again?
