Chapter 4
“Who the hell do you think you are?” Some tiny, yappy brunette marched up to me.
“OH!” She attempted to fawn over my mate, but I blocked her, still not entirely out of the fog. This seemed to distress this woman and cause her to miscalculate.
She slapped me across the face.
Blue grabbed me and slammed me back against the wall before Fennick took over. He put his hands up between us. “Excuse me, but this is my Alpha's mate. It appears you know her, he claimed her a common and important ritual in our culture that has very well saved your sister's life.”
Blue is ever the diplomat.
“She is my sister and you fucking tried to eat her!” the brunette screeched, and my mind had caught up enough to roll my eyes.
“Your sister is now the Luna of the Crescent Lake Pack,” Blue asserted. This seemed to throw the sister for a loop.
“She can't be, she has work on Monday,” she stated, going to fawn over her sister again. “Get me some bandages,” she ordered.
I nodded to Andre, who snapped his fingers. “Well, man, you really know how to make a scene. I didn't necessarily want everyone to know you were here, but when do I get what I want,” he shrugged, looking down at my mate. “I'd get her out of here and back to your pack as quickly as you can.”
I nodded, letting the sister patch her up before scooping her up in my arms. Goddess was she beautiful, her face sharp and elegant, her hair golden spiral falling down her back.
“What are you doing now!” the sister shrieked.
“For your sister's safety and comfort, we will be taking her to our hotel room. You're welcome to accompany -” Blue began another failed attempt to charm the sibling.
She seemed to have her mind made up about us. I don't think false niceties were going to change her opinion. I tried not to get aggravated, all this woman saw was a wolf bite her little sister. I'm sure that was scary for her. I tried to convince myself, but still, a bitter taste of melodrama stayed whenever I looked at my new in-laws.
“Watch her head!” she barked as I laid my new Luna down in the car. “Careful with her legs!”
I shut the door. “No, why would I do that? I heard every relationship should start off with a concussion and two broken limbs,” I mumbled to myself, Blue clapping me on the shoulder.
“Our new sister is a fiery one,” he chuckled.
“Does she have to come with?” I sneered. “Oh, goddess, I hope my mate is not as unreasonable as this one is,”
My mate. How long had I hoped to say that? How many nights had I stayed awake, begging the goddess to show her to me so my people didn't have to worry. I took over the pack five years ago, and for five years they'd lived in uncertainty.
Now, not only was I bringing a mate home, I was bringing a human mate home. This would put us on display, and I'm not sure how my Luna would react to it. She wasn't awake, and I couldn't hear her thoughts, but still I did what I could, so it wasn't all overwhelming.
I used my abilities to shut down the telepathic link for her all those voices, even just the four of us, could be overwhelming. Still so I knew when she woke up I kept her connection open to us.
I looked in the back seat as her sister brushed her hair out of her face.
My mother would love her, she was just the type of girl my mother would pick for me. She seemed to follow her own path, not the common crowd.
I pictured her standing in the middle of the jumping mass dancing freely, swaying to the beat, not noticing anyone else. She didn't care.
I hid a smile. I was falling quickly, and I hadn't even spoken to her.
The pack house would have to be made ready for her. The Lunas' rooms had lain dormant since my mother was Luna, and I doubt she had the same…taste as my mother.
The macrame plants, Persian rugs, wall hangings, and colors upon colors flashed into my head. I'd get the rooms stripped and laid bare, and she can select what she wishes after that.
I sent a message to Evan, my Beta, 'd get everything set up, but I still warned him not to cause an uproar. It would be one thing if she were a wolf. She'd have expected to, at some point, uproot her life and go elsewhere, but now, with a human. This will be inconvenient and hard. She may fight, I just want her to be comfortable, to try and go along with this.
“Breathe,” Blue nudged me. “I can hear you unraveling in there,” he whispered.
I took a long breath. He was right, I needed to be collected as I helped her make these decisions. I sighed a breath of relief as a realization dawned on me. No longer would I be forced to make every decision for my pack alone. I'd have her, not just her, but the gift of the goddess. The moon knows what that will do for us.
I looked back at her again and at her sister. The sister just might lose her mind when she learns what being a human mate means.
We got them up to our room, and I had Cami and Hayley watch over her while her sister continued to glare at me.
“Look, boy king,” she rolled her eyes. “I don't know what kind of harem you're running, but my sister isn't your plaything, and you will be paying her medical bills.”
I gritted my teeth and tried to seem pleasant. She was now family after all. “I did nothing wrong, not in our world, which your sister is now a part of. She is my Luna, my mate. She needs to come with us so we can protect her.”
The woman held her hands up. “I'm sorry, first you maim her, now you wanna kidnap her, she's a human,n she has rights, isn't there like a dozen laws you're breaking right now?”
“All null and void if she's his mate, she now falls under wolf law. Our customs, our rules,” Blue interjected.
The sister sized up my brother really quickly. “Listen, Casanova, I don't care what you think. You have her bleeding in there, you're lucky you're still breathing,”
We both chuckled aloud at that. Big mistake.
“How dare you? I don't care about your special little puppy power, that's my sister, and you hurt her, and now you're saying you're taking her from me. The second she wakes up were leaving,” she insisted.
“Not possible, she's our Luna,” Blue stated again, but I doubt that this woman understood or even wanted to understand.
“I don't care-”
“She's awake,”
