Chapter 6

It was a question that was difficult to answer.

Sebastian had no intention of revealing his contract with Scarlett. If Alexander found out and the Black family got wind of it, what would be the point of this charade?

So he explained, "Uncle Alexander, don't worry. She knows everything."

He figured Alexander wasn't that old-fashioned and would understand.

But Alexander's face only grew darker.

Sebastian was puzzled by his reaction.

Could it be that Alexander still believed in that "one true love for a lifetime" nonsense?

Sebastian suddenly remembered Scarlett's comment, "Alexander is quite old-fashioned." It was a bit harsh, but not entirely wrong.

Realizing he might have crossed a line, Sebastian decided not to stick around. He quickly left with Emma.

Emma whispered, "Why did Alexander sound so weird?"

Sebastian wasn't sure either and replied casually, "Maybe he's just in a bad mood."

That night, Scarlett got caught in the rain and had been busy taking care of Tracy. Two days later, she predictably came down with a fever.

Worried about infecting Tracy, she wore a mask and worked from the side.

Tracy, mostly recovered, was lying on the hospital bed video-calling her mom. In a sweet, childlike voice, she complained, "Mommy, Scarlett is sick and still won't rest."

As she spoke, she turned the camera to show Scarlett.

Moira was distressed, "It's all my fault for leaving at the wrong time."

Scarlett, not in the mood to deal with her, focused on her screen and said without looking up, "If you know that, then hurry back."

Moira's true colors showed, "No way, I'm busy finding my true love."

After the banter, she got serious, "Hey, I'm serious. If you're sick, you should rest. What's so urgent at work?"

Scarlett finally looked up and glared at Moira through the rear camera.

Tracy, ever the helper, moved the phone to capture Scarlett's full expression and conveyed the sentiment to Moira.

Scarlett leaned back, feeling miserable from the fever, trying to find some relief.

"I don't want to deal with it either, but the young star you signed got caught in a scandal. She's lost her mind and wants to go public with her relationship. If I let her, I'll never recoup the money I invested in her."

Moira was silent.

This was indeed a tough situation.

Scarlett had always been a hard worker, something Moira knew well.

Since they hit it off and founded Scarlett & Moira Entertainment, Scarlett had always been this way.

She never hid her desire for money, always daring and ambitious. Without Scarlett, SM wouldn't have grown so quickly.

A person like Scarlett couldn't tolerate a losing business.

Unable to persuade Scarlett, Moira turned to Tracy, "Tracy, while Mommy's not home, you need to make sure Scarlett eats and takes her medicine on time, okay?"

Tracy solemnly promised, "Mission accepted."

Realizing the camera was still on Scarlett, she repeated her promise.

Scarlett laughed heartily.

Under Tracy's insistence, Scarlett went to get her medicine.

The fever made her feel awful, so she asked for a cooling patch to ease the discomfort.

When Tyler came to check on Tracy, he was shocked to see Scarlett in such a state.

Remembering Alexander's instructions, Tyler immediately informed him.

Alexander was in a meeting.

He had parachuted into the Black Group, and there were endless meetings.

His phone lit up on the table with a message from Tyler: [Ms. Collins has a fever, come quickly.]

A fever?

Alexander frowned.

She had indeed been caught in the rain that night.

"Let's wrap it up here. Follow the plan we discussed," Alexander said, closing his laptop and standing up.

He told Mike, "I have to step out."

Mike, sitting next to him, hadn't seen the message but could guess.

Having worked with Alexander for years, he knew there were few people Alexander cared about. Mike immediately responded, "Yes, Mr. King."

Alexander arrived half an hour later.

Tyler, estimating the distance from the Black Group, was shocked.

Scarlett had just taken her medicine.

The medication was kicking in, making her drowsy. She forced herself to work, speaking weakly.

Tracy generously offered her big bed to Scarlett.

Scarlett, her voice muffled, said, "No, I'll just nap here. Call me if you need anything."

Exhausted and in pain, she quickly fell asleep on the couch.

Alexander watched her through the window.

Her body, outlined by a thin blanket, showed her delicate curves. She frowned in her sleep, a cooling patch on her forehead, clearly uncomfortable.

Alexander felt a pang in his heart.

He remembered how delicate Scarlett used to be when they were together.

During flu season, she refused to wear a mask, got sick, and had a fever in the middle of the night.

She wouldn't take her medicine unless he coaxed her, then reluctantly pinched her nose and drank a little.

Weak from the fever, she clung to him like a koala, refusing to let go.

After finally getting her to sleep, he went to make chicken soup.

When he returned, Scarlett was awake, looking fragile and teary-eyed, complaining, "Alexander, why didn't you stay with me?"

The memories still made his heart ache.

Alexander closed his eyes briefly.

He opened the door.

Tracy heard the noise and turned to look at him, her blue eyes as beautiful as the ocean, making Alexander uneasy.

Tracy pointed at Scarlett and asked him, "Sir, are you here for her?"

Tyler quickly walked over and whispered to Tracy, "Keep your voice down, don't wake your mom."

Tracy nodded.

Alexander asked, "Is the room next door empty?"

Tyler responded quickly, "Yes."

Alexander nodded and, to Tracy's shock, walked over to the couch and picked Scarlett up.

Her body was burning hot, no wonder she fell asleep so quickly. She must have been at her limit.

Even being carried, she didn't wake up.

She desperately needed rest.

Without a glance at Tracy, Alexander carried her out of the room.

Tracy, stunned, looked at Tyler with wide eyes, "Where is he taking her?"

Tracy was a well-behaved child. If you simply explained, she would be more than happy to see Scarlett get proper rest next door.

But Alexander had issues with Tracy. Without saying a word, he just picked Scarlett up and took her away.

Tyler, feeling exasperated, had to explain, "Mr. King is your mom's friend. He took her next door to rest. The couch is too small, and you don't want her to be uncomfortable, right?"

Tracy nodded, "Okay then."
