Chapter Five
Lola's POV.
Brian drew out of the crowd, causing the crowd to gasp in anticipation. Like doom waiting to happen, he continued drawing closer towards Alpha Tyler, and I writhed in pain.
'Was he about to kill himself?' I wondered.
I was sure a plethora of people shared my sentiments because I could hear a few people murmuring under their breaths. It didn't change the fact that he went on bravely.
My chest heaved rapidly as I watched the procession in slow motion. How dare he challenge the Lycan King. He was in for some rough ride.
"I cannot allow you to take her away. She deserves to die!" Brian declared, going head to head with a man whose breath could reduce him to dust. I guess he was ready to meet the Goddess already.
If Alpha Tyler wanted to say something, he refrained from doing so because he smiled instead and cocked his head, yet maintaining his air of danger. Every sane person would have backed down at that point, but Brian didn't possess common sense.
"Is that so, now?" He asked in a low tone, yet managed to echo throughout the Pack, making me wonder what the hell Brian was eating these days to go head to head with a man who could...
I heard a scream and before I knew what happened, Brian was on his knees, the sound of bones cracking echoed continuously.
My eyes widened in horror. Alpha Tyler had not even moved an inch! How was he able to do that?!
"I believe that you still have a lot more to say, right?" He asked, waiting for the hurt Brian to speak.
Brian's face contorted into a frown, yet he refused to acknowledge his mistake. At this point, I was almost crying on his behalf.
He managed to rise on shaky legs. "Sge committed treason." He said, sounding out of breath, and I rolled my eyes.
Alas, there was no way he was going to learn his lesson. Stubborn ass!
"I wouldn't say that if I were you." Alpha Tyler drawled, pretending to just be having a casual conversation but we knew that he was probably planning another debilitating move.
Brian raised his chin, finally regaining momentum. "I will not be browbeaten into allowing her to get away because she managed to get a bigger Alpha to come to her aid. She is supposed to be treated exactly for what she is. A traitor! I'm ready to deal with her for how long it takes!" He yelled while casting a glance at me with a promise to destroy me.
Alpha Tyler wasted no time speaking up after that. "Now that you've stayed your cause, I guess we can help you out, huh?" He said sarcastically with a slight lilt in his tone that would warn people off, but not Brian, who was determined to waste his life.
I was sat for this.
"Let's duel. Whoever wins, takes her." Brian suggested.
I knew that he was powerful in his own right but this was outright delusion. "Son..." Alpha Sullivan called, trying to save his son from disgrace.
Brian refused to heed his father's words. Instead, he rolled his sleeves up in a preparatory manner.
Get the hell away! I yelled in my mind but didn't dare utter a word before all eyes fell on me.
I saw his wicked father gaze at me with a promise of wickedness.
"I am not a weak Alpha, especially when fighting for my rights. This lady has managed to creep in to continue what her parents didn't finish." Brian went on.
"You dare want to go against me?" Alpha Tyler asked him, giving him a chance to back out.
Brian nodded with a resolute look in his eyes. He was ready to prove what he wasn't to spite me. I must have done something bad in my previous life to warrant this.
He advanced at Alpha Tyler with a shout of battle but was met with a smack across the face that had him staggering backward. "Try harder, boy." He said.
Brian skidded to a halt before casting another wicked glance at me, but I was less interested in having him by my side, trying to disturb my peace. It needed to be done and I wasn't going to change a thing.
I waited patiently to see what next because he still looked like he had an idea which I could bet my life on that it was to get rid of me. His vengeance was so strong that he refused to see that he was digging his grave.
He charged at Alpha Tyler again, who, this time, didn't look amused. Instead, he grabbed him with one arm and flung him across the Pack, watching as he collapsed against the pavement.
A torn ligament announced its annoyance with a sharp crack.
"Little did I think that this was found to be a long process. If anyone still wants to challenge me for her, you can step forward." Alpha Tyler announced smugly.
I counted up to ten, praying that no one would have the guts to make such rash decisions, especially after seeing how Brian was being dealt with.
No one did.
"Exactly what I thought." He said before walking towards me and picking me up in his arms, enveloping me in his unique, comforting, manly scent. I would never have imagined myself having such a bit of luck.
I opened my mouth to thank him, but the weight of exhaustion mixed with relief overwhelmed me, so the words got stuck in my throat. "Th–" I attempted, trying to get past the ball in there but failed woefully.
"From today, Blue Ray Pack and Diamond Pack become sworn enemies!" I heard Alpha Sullivan yell behind us as we continued our walk towards the carriage waiting for us.
Alpha Tyler shook his head as if telling me that it'd be okay. I had no choice but to rest on his shoulders and allow myself to be lulled to sleep.
