Happy 5th Birthday, Kara
Luna Clara
"Marcus told me the truth about the rogue baby you rescued." My blood ran cold, hearing my mate's low tone.
"What truth did he claim to know?" I ask, trying to play off the panic taking control of my body. I scream when he grabs my hair and pulls me back into him, his other hand coming around to wrap around my throat.
"She's Stefan and Amanda's daughter." I couldn't answer, my voice frozen in fear. I hoped I could have everything set to get us away after he sent Ada away. My own son betrayed me to his dad.
"You should have known I would find out. Stay away from her, or I'll kill her and lock you in the dungeon for the rest of your life. We know how long that'll be, witch." He snarls, throwing me to the floor and leaving. Well, this just got a whole lot harder. I've failed, brother. I'm sorry. I cry to the universe, hoping he can forgive me one day.
Kara
Today is my birthday, and I should be excited. Momma, Ada, Millie, and I always celebrate with a day in the field by the river. It was my favorite place to go, except this year was different. Alpha sent Ada and Millie away, and Momma doesn’t come to see me anymore. Marcus and I got into a fight over the last apple tart on my birthday last year, and Ada punched him. Alpha wanted to lock her away in the dungeon, but Momma talked him into sending her to boarding school instead. So, Millie went with her, and Alpha shipped them away. After that, Alpha told me I was to stay out of Marcus’s way or else. One of the Omegas came in and started gathering my clothes and toys.
“Hey, that’s my stuff.” I cry, grabbing the ratty teddy bear from her hands. She looks at me with sad eyes.
“My sweet, the Alpha decided the nursery is to be remodeled since the young Alpha is now older and young Ada is no longer here.”
“What about me?” I sniffle into my bear's head. “I want momma.” I cried, hugging my bear to me as tightly as I could. She put a hand on my shoulder.
“You’ll stay with me and the rest of the Omegas now, Kara. I’m Marta, I know we aren’t the Luna, but I think you’ll love it with us.” She grabs my stuff and holds out her other hand to me. I take it, and she leads me outside to the barn. Once inside, a weathered old man stops us and nods to the left.
“But..” Marta stops short as the man holds up his hand.
“Alpha’s orders.” Is all he says before pointing to the left again. Marta looks at me, unshed tears in her eyes. She leads me down to the end of a long line of stalls. I came to stand in front of the obviously unkept stall. The door hangs on by the top hinge and doesn’t shut properly. Most of the stall is filled with broken buckets and chunks of leather straps from broken saddles and whips.
“I don’t wanna stay here, Marta. Please let me stay with you.” I sob, grabbing onto her leg. She slowly squats down, causing me to let go and back up.
“Kara, we have to follow the Alphas orders, I can’t disobey him. I’ll help you if I can but not at the risk to my family. I have my own little girl to keep safe.” She sets my stuff down, gives me one big hug and leaves me alone. I walk into the stall, sitting on the small pile of straw left in the corner. I draw my legs to my chest and hug my bear as tight as I can. What did I do wrong? Why does Alpha hate me so much? I just want my mommy. I cry to myself, my bear catching every tear as I sob. I jump when I hear one of the buckets fall to my feet.
“Aww, poor crybaby is all alone.” Marcus sneers at me.
“I’m not a crybaby!’ I shout at him, my face burning red. He stomps into the stall and rips my bear out of my hands, holding it above his head. I jump up again and again trying to grab it, pleading with him to give it back.
“Admit you’re a big crybaby and I might give him back. Or I can tell my Dad that you’re bothering me.” I cross my arms and stomp my feet down.
“Fine! I’m a big crybaby, now give him back, Marcus.” Marcus sneered at me, and I hear a big rip and he tosses my bears head to my feet and the body into the next stall. I scream and fall to the floor, grabbing my bears head. He laughs and leaves.
“Don’t fix it or I’ll tell my Dad you did it yourself to try and get me in trouble.” I stick my tongue out at him as I hear the door close upon his exit. I run to the next stall and grab my bear’s body, taking it back to my stall. I grab both pieces and curl up under the threadbare blanket Marta brought out for me. I hold the pieces and cry, slowly drifting off into sleep.
I open my eyes to a field full of the most beautiful flowers I've seen. I reach out to touch one and feel happiness spread through my little body. I giggle and take off running in circles in the field of flowers, my arms outstretched, touching every flower I pass.
"Oh how I've longed to hear that sound." An angelic voice echoes around me. I stop and look around for the owner. I should be scared but instead I feel at home.
"Hello?" I softly call out, looking around the open field. Suddenly a woman appears in front of me, smiling as bright as the sun. I stare at her in awe. Her long black hair trailing down her back in soft waves, her emeralds eyes shining with unshed tears.
"My sweet angel,"
“Who are you?” I whisper, drifting closer. She holds her arms out to me,
"I'm your mom and I've missed you so." She falls to her knees, tears shimmering down her cheeks.
“Momma?” I run to her, launching myself into her arms, feeling them close around me and it felt like something clicked into place. She holds me tight, pressing kisses all over the top of my head.
“Mommy, why did you leave me? I need you.” I cry into her chest. She softly shushes me in that calming way only moms can manage.
"We don't have much time, little one, so I need you to listen closely to everything I say. Don't try to remember it, you won't until it's time." She held me as she explained what happened and who I really am. I close my eyes as she holds me. When I open my eyes again, I'm back in my stall and I don't remember anything, unaware of doing anything but sleeping.
