Saturday July 30th Pt. 2

“The council understood what kind of pack my father ran and when he was approached about the possibility of them buying the land south of us he was eager to meet Alpha Landon Blue and his pregnant luna, Lucy. Now, Alpha Herman and Luna Amber recognized the size of their pack and without any additional land available for expansion they came up with a novel idea for the time. They approached the council, explained their situation and what they wanted to do. The oldest son, Akron, was in a position to inherit the Blue Fang pack but the other three, Lyle, Ardna and Landon, wanted to branch out on their own. Each new leader had members of the pack volunteering to leave with them completely blind as they were scrambling to find land to purchase.

Allen welcomed Landon into our home for several years until enough of the construction had been completed and pack members started flying or driving in. He was hugely instrumental in making the move a success for this new group. They immediately had a treaty put together agreeing that they would help each other defend the border. Cross training between packs occurred regularly resulting in the adults from the two packs becoming close friends. Hunter Blue, Landon and Lucy’s youngest son, quickly became a very close friend of mine. I attended his coronation, taking the helm of his pack when his parents passed suddenly twenty years ago and he attended mine just five years later.

The last time I saw Alpha Hunter and Luna Melina Blue was just two days before the rogues attacked. My own sons, Damian was nearly six and Lucas was four when we joined them for dinner. I remember Melina remarking on how much her daughter Savannah insisted on playing with Damian. Often wondering out loud if it was possible for two souls to feel the mate’s bond before they are even close to shifting.”

I pause a moment, watching my son closely as his anger appears to grow.

“Two nights later the air was filled with screams from the panic, fear and pain of being torn apart. Without warning the Blue Ridge pack had come under attack. I knew immediately that it was a targeted attack as they waited until the alpha and luna were alone before infiltrating. They also did everything they could to kill everyone who attempted to cross over to the Crimson Dawn pack. Fortunately one member did make it through but by the time he made it to me it was too late. Melina Blue was dead, Hunter Blue was in critical condition with a low probability of surviving the night and their three year old twins, Samantha and Savannah were missing and presumed dead.

For two years after the attack I kept communication and my border open. Their beta, Alrik Anderson assumed the leadership role taking the pack back to the old days where women and children lived in squalor and fear. He took his own beta, John Netski, within a few days of taking over. They both had their mates but I never found out if they were fated mates or chosen.

During my weekly dinners with Alpha Hunter he often spoke of how unhappy he was with Alrik. He believed that Alrik despised his kindness towards his pack and had become concerned that the beta position had gone to his head. He had started the process of removing his beta from the position, not as easily done as it is now, just days before the attack occurred.

When Alrik took over my weekly dinners became quarterly and each time we arrived there were more children for Damian and Lucas to play with. After two years of trying to work with him we had our last dinner together. I took that opportunity to explain that the treaty between Alpha Hunter and I was now void since he was no longer alive. I also explained that it meant our border was closed and any Blue Ridge members passing through would be detained as rogues. It was only as Lilly approached the youngest looking child there that I realized he had twelve to fourteen orphans living in the pack house with him. The oldest appeared to be in her early teens while the youngest appeared to be five or six.

Lilly started asking questions about her name but the girl was slapped across the face before she could form the words. When Lilly protested the action she was slapped as well. I immediately left and haven’t returned.

Now I know what everyone is thinking, what does this have to do with this meeting? Two weeks ago, on the ten year anniversary of the closing of our border to Blue Ridge, Beta Declan Jacobs crossed our border. He was the head of their security team so he understood the risks he was taking. He preemptively shifted into human form just after he crossed onto our land and started using a well worn trail to walk through our land in an effort to find a member of our pack.”

It’s as I talk that I use the link to check in with Damian. I have perfected the stealth link allowing me to connect with all of my kids without them knowing. I’m shocked to feel the level of anger that Damian is bottling up. I know before I start getting into the changes that I need from my warriors that I’m going to be met with resistance.

“Unfortunately, Damian intercepted him before the rest of his group could join him. Everyone here has been trained to ask questions first and attack only on defense. You left your group, Damian. You failed to communicate what you were after and you attacked in wolf form. There will be significant consequences for your actions starting with returning to basic training.”

“You can’t be serious. I completed basic training at the top of my class three years ago.”

He protests a point I’m well aware of.

“The rest of your consequences will remain private between the two of us unless you choose to share them.”

I move on without addressing his outburst. As my son, I do expect a certain level of defiance but he should be well aware at nearly seventeen, that he needs to remain within the realm of respect.

“Once I was able to get Declan into the care of my hospital team he was able to confirm the rumors that were floating around. Alpha Anderson is a tyrant.”

I pause as murmurs float around the room.

“He has used his position as alpha to rule over the pack through the use of abuse. Financially, he squandered the money that wasn’t in a trust fund, to buy whatever he wanted over maintaining the business and pack that Hunter and Melina built when they moved out here. Yes, it was old money given to them by Hunter’s parents before they moved out here but it was designated to be used for the pack. Unfortunately this has led to a difficult situation for half of the original pack. It was only those who managed to hide instead of fight, those who locked themselves away into safe rooms for days that ultimately survived the attack. This left many of the families that remain without one or more of their family members.”
