Chapter 16
Nelly felt like her head was going to explode with what she just heard. Annalise still had the mind to say that there was nothing going on? "What?! He asked you if you had a boyfriend? Then he is definitely interested in you! Can you really not see what is going on here? He is definitely interested in you!" Nelly screamed. Her voice could shatter glass at that point.
Annalise rolled her eyes once again, to the moon and back. This was the reason she didn't want to tell her this part. She knew that she was going to blow it out of proportion like this. How could he be interested in her when they were meeting for only the second time?
"Seriously Nelly, it is nothing like that."
"Come on Anna. Don't be like this. Can't you see that there is something going on here? Tell me the truth Anna. Is it really because you don't see that there is nothing going on here or just because you don't want to accept what is going on here? Don't be like this. I'm sure he likes you and both of you will be able to work out something with each other," Nelly said.
"I really don't know what you are talking about Nelly."
Nelly sighed caustically, She knew this friend of hers wasn't going to accept it easily. She was going to continue beating around the bush like this. Nelly thought of something. Annalise said that he is the owner of this place right? She remembered that the place had been leased to them at a ridiculously low price; it could not be that he had something to do with it, right?
"Anna, think about this. You said that he is the owner of this place right? You remember that this place had been leased to us at a ridiculously low price right? At just five grand for two years? Think about it. What if it is his doing?" Nelly asked. Maybe he liked her for a longer time than they thought.
Annalise thought about what Nelly said. "I really don't think so Nelly. It does not make any sense for him to do something like that. I don't think that's it," Anna said.
Nelly rolled her eyes. She knew Anna was not going to admit it easily. No need to keep forcing her. "Anna, I have a question for you. Let's assume that he really is interested in you. What are you going to do then? Are you going to give him a chance?" Nelly asked.
"I'm not ready for any relationships or commitments right now, Nelly. In fact, I don't believe it anymore. Why should I waste my time with some man? I know that nothing is going to come out of it. Dalton and those other men are enough lessons to me. I'm not going to believe in something as fickle as love anymore. I'm not interested." Annalise made her intentions clear.
Nelly looked at her, "Is this because of what happened with Dalton? Anna, you won't let one experience ruin the prospect of love for you. You don't have to be like this because of some jerk. That guy obviously does not deserve you at all!" Nelly said.
"This has nothing to do with anyone, Nelly. This is just my decision and I expect you to respect it."
Zayn was in his office. His assistant, Dave, was standing in front of him, waiting for his next order,
"Did you get what I asked you to get? Where is it?" Zayn asked. Sitting in front of his assistant like this, the smile that was on his face when he talked with Annalise wasn't there anymore. It was replaced by a cold and frigid look. His assistant didn't dare delay. He quickly placed a thick file on his desk.
"This is all the information you asked me to get on that woman. She is a Nigerian who is currently living in the United States. She has been here for a really long time. She had been working at the Uncle Fluffy bakery but she quit recently. She now has a salon of her own," Dave, the assistant, gave him the full report.
Zayn slammed his hand on the table immediately. "Can't you tell me something that I don't know? If you were going to tell me things that I already know then why did I hire you and why do I pay you?" Zayn asked.
Dave shuddered. He knew very well what his boss' temper was like. He remembered something. "Um, she attended Hilary high school."
