Chapter2
Kassandra
I tossed and turned because I was having that dream again and this time, the black dragon spoke to me.
"Very soon, you will be mine."
"Princess! Princess! wake up!"
I shot up from the bed and I started shouting.
"Ah!! get away from me!!"
"Princess! calm down!" Annie shouted as she placed her hands on my shoulders.
I snapped out of it and I was back in my room. I sighed in relief and I laid back down on the bed.
"Princess are you all right? you looked like you were having a nightmare."
"I was. It's the same dream I keep seeing every single night and this time it was worse."
"How bad was it this time?" Annie asked me as she sat on the bed.
"That black dragon I told you about, it spoke to me. He told me that I was going to belong to him soon."
"It was a nightmare, Princess Kassandra, it doesn't mean anything."
"Then why does it feel so real. The fear of me running through the woods and being held down like that until the dragon came along feel so real. Annie, you know that I've inherited my Mother's powers and I'm worried it is a vision."
"Why don't you talk to your father about it?"
"I tried that when I first dreamt about it but, he wouldn't listen. He just shrugs it off or tells me it was a silly dream. Annie, why can't he see that I'm like my mother?"
"I guess, he just doesn't want to remember her. Considering the fact that he was there that day when a dragon killed her."
'Except, he never told me why the dragon killed her. They were harmless until that awful day arrived.'
I thought to myself before getting out of bed.
"But, do not let it bother you too much, you're going to spend some time with Tobias today, aren't you?"
"Yes I am, you're right Annie, I should be happy that I'm with Prince Tobias, he's the only one who listens and understands me."
"Good, now let's get you ready for today."
Annie spoke with a grin before getting one of my dresses. Today, I'm wearing a simple green knee-length dress so it was easier for me to ride on my horse and I'm wearing black leggings and brown boots. Annie ties my hair into a plait and she gives me my riding gloves.
After breakfast, I planned to meet Prince Tobias outside but, I needed to talk to my father about the nightmare I've been having. I knocked on the door to his office and I heard him telling me to come in. I opened the door and then my father smiled at me after looking up from his paperwork.
"Oh hello, Kassandra, shouldn't you be with Prince Tobias?"
"I was just on my way out to go for a horse riding with him but, I wanted to talk to you about something first."
"What is it?" Father asked me as I sat down across from his desk.
"Father, you know that dream I've told you about from before."
"Kassandra, we have already discussed this, it was just a dream. It doesn't mean anything."
"But, can you at least explain to me why I've been having it over and over again?"
Father looked at me surprised when I told him this. I explained to him about the events that happened in my dream including the one that I had earlier.
"The Dragon priests had you surrounded and then a black dragon appears out of nowhere and this time he spoke to you?"
"Yes, Father I'm worried. What if this dream is actually a vision? You know what my mother told me before she died, as I get older, I get to gain new powers and new abilities and she also told me when I get to a certain age, that's when the ability to see into the future will appear."
"Hmm...you might but then again, it could be nothing."
"But, father-"
"Kassandra! you will speak no more of this, I am aware of what your mother told me before she died but, there is no way the dragon priests and the dragons still exist. No one has seen them in years since I exiled them and the other creatures. It was nothing more than a silly nightmare."
I sighed in defeat and then I smiled afterwards.
"You're probably right, maybe it was a stupid dream. Remember those times when I used to tell you about how I dreamt about riding on the back a dragon?"
"How can I forget? you kept begging me to get you a pet dragon after you had that dream."
I giggled a little and then father petted my head.
"But you are not little anymore are you? you're all grown up and you'll be a Queen soon once this visit goes well."
"I was half-expecting you to be so protective of me, you remember when we met Leo? he wouldn't take his eyes off me and you were very close to strangling him too."
"That's because I was able to tell that he had fallen in love with you at first sight. I had to warn him off."
"Until he became my bodyguard."
"Well, yes that's true, anyway, enough chit-chat, you've got a Prince waiting for you."
"I know, Father. I'll see you later and don't overwork yourself, it's not good for you, old man."
"You cheeky monkey! come over here and I'll show you who's an old man!"
"Ah! I'm out of here!"
I shouted before making a run for it. Father and I chuckled after we got outside and then Prince Tobias spotted us.
"I see you two are having fun."
"Tobias, do me a favour and make sure she doesn't go on a crazy ride, she's always taking off whenever we get to the meadow."
I giggled a little and then Tobias helped me onto my black horse who I named Scarlet and then Tobias got on the back of his brown stallion.
"Have fun you two and be careful."
"We will don't worry your majesty, your daughter is in safe hands."
Tobias said to him before we left the castle grounds on horseback.
We rode through the meadow for a while and I was having fun. It had been so long since I had a ride with someone. We came to a halt and I enjoyed the view especially with the wildflowers in full bloom. Prince Tobias dismounted his horse and then a moment later he came back with a flower in his hand.
"For you Princess."
"Wow, it's beautiful."
I took the flower from him and I smiled at it.
"I'm glad you like it, come on," Tobias got back on his horse. "Let's have a little race through the woods."
"Are you sure? because I'm known to be the best horse rider in Cassina."
"We shall see about that, ready, set go!"
Tobias smirked at me before he spurred his horse into a gallop.
"Hey! I wasn't ready! come on Scarlet!!" I kicked her side and then we chased after Tobias.
We galloped through the woods and we were both laughing as we raced each other. Scarlet sped up and we ran past Tobias.
"Hey, Princess! slow down! don't go too far!" He shouted at me.
"Yeah right! like that's gonna happen!"
I taunted him before I went ahead of him. Suddenly, my horse got spooked and then she threw me off her back. I landed onto the ground and then Scarlet ran away.
"Scarlet! come back Scarlet didn't listen as she made a run for it. I didn't know what spooked her until strange people in masks appeared. I watched them approach me and then they had me surrounded once I stood up from the ground.
"Who are you? what do you want?"
The leader looked at me and he smirked at me before pointing at me.
"We want you, Princess."
My eyes widen in shock and I was about to run until someone came up behind me and placed a cloth over my nose and mouth.
"Sleep, Princess," a familiar voice spoke and then I blacked out.
