CHAPTER 12.
The packs have had terrible days for whilst. The law guiding the packs seems to have been broken by some angry wolves. Thus, something needs to be done before the day turned into night. An alpha male of valour, Lucas summoned other packs to seek ways to proffer solutions to this impending doom.
Lucas stood up to make a long speech like Mark Anthony in 'Julius Caesar". He's endowed with a fine bass voice. He started 'Good gentlemen of Asgard, I plead your indulgence to hear my voice. Of what benefits would it be if we devour ourselves? Has it been heard in the history of wolves that they eat one another? No. Why then do we kill ourselves?".
Everyone and everywhere was as quiet as a graveyard. Lucas was hitting hard on some wolves that have turned cannibals lately. Now, his voice was getting cranky. He cleared his throat and continued.
'Dear mates, resist killing one another. Let's live and love rather than hate each other. Let us live in harmony and learn to love one another. The world would be peaceful if only we could learn to love genuinely".
At the end of his speech, he charged that Vigilantes would be set to guide Asgard from hence. Every other suggestion was made and the existing constitution was amended. And the entire pack promised to abide by the rules.
A knock was heard at Sophie's door. Sophie adjusted the cotton of her window to see who was at the door, it was Clara. Sophie's heart skips a bit. What does she want again? She muttered. The thought of Clara gives her nightmares. Clara reminds her so much about her past. She had left there long ago. And she wouldn't want anything that would remind her of it evermore. But here she is, daughter of Lucifer, announcer of doom. What message has she brought this time? Let me find out.
Sophie opened the door for Clara without looking at her face. Nobody needs to inform Clara that something was wrong. She knows her trespasses are in numbers like the sand of the earth. But she would still put on a smile and pretend as if nothing has ever happened.
Hey babes. Hey. Sophie replied to Clara. She opened her alms and proceed to hug Sophie. Sophie kissed her on the cheeks. Have a seat. Sophie said.
Clara sat quietly on the settee like an orphan. She was faking tears now. Sophie. I have come to request a favour. Sophie sat upright with rapt attention. Clara lowered her face and keeps staring at the floor like one who lost a penny. She was waiting to be asked to go on and make her request.
Sophie finally granted her the audience. Who knows the kind of request she came with this time. She thought. Clara knelt before her. Sophie. I wanna make a hard request. I'm afraid you can't grant me this, Sophie. Clara said. You know, I've been trying to hold back my feelings but it keeps growing daily.
What would I do? Sophie. I'm in love with Lucas. Could you help me to speak to him? Tell him how much I love him cos I don't think I could talk to him myself. Clara was crying now. Sophie was moved by her tears. She moved close to her, lifted her and walked her back to her seat.
Sophie knew that it was a tough request to grant. How would she face someone that she has been avoiding for a long? Besides, she's still in love with him. No, she can't face him. Would she pretend to be selfless and talked her love to love someone else? No. She definitely won't do that.
She doubts if Clara was in her right senses to make such a request. What would she do now? She has to pretend as if she didn't hear anything. And she would also give her false hope by giving a yes to her request. Sophie thought. She smiled at Clara. Sweetie, it's a yes for me. I'm giving you a yes. I would do it. I would speak with Lucas on your behalf. Clara's face brightened up, and she smiles heartily and hugged Sophie.
Sophie left home for an excursion. She left with other mates. Her purpose for going on an excursion was to avoid Lucas. Yes, she still has feelings for Lucas. But she wouldn't want to have anything to do with him right now.
The excursion was in the cave suited in the Sharon desert. On the left side of the cave, there lies a river flowing unidirectionally. Other mates were busy feeding their eyes with the beauty of nature in the cave when Sophie lean towards the direction of the river. She wanted to Know why spirogyra and other green leaves were covering some parts of the River and where the river ends.
Sophie darling. She called herself enthusiastically. You came for an excursion right? So, go explore sweetie. She said out loud. Sophie was about to cross a path that leads to the bank of the river when she missed a step and fell inside the river. She shouted out herself but none could hear her because she was already drowning.
Lucas who had enquired about Sophie's whereabouts stormed the desert. He asked the other mates about Sophie but none was able to give an account of Sophie's whereabouts. Then, it was dawn on the other mates that one of them has gone missing.
Lucas ran towards the river to behold the love of his life floating lifelessly in the river. Immediately, he jumped into the river, lifted her and placed her on his shoulder. After first aid treatment have been administered to her, it took about two hours before she opened her eyes.
Lucas leapt with joy. Thank goodness, you are better, my love. Sophie tried to get up from where she was laying, but the injury she sustained at her drowning was excruciating. Lucas caressed her softly and proceeded to kiss her forehead. He confessed how much he loves her and how he would want to do life with her. Sophie felt the same but couldn't give him a yes to ignite the relationship.
