Chapter 6.
Laurel trembled at the thought of that. She turned to look at the guard but couldn't find him there. She looked around and was a bit surprised to see that nobody was there.
Does it mean I am free?
Laurel shook her head at the thought. Who knew what lurked outside? Boss Lucas had mentioned something about having guards. What if he instructed them to shoot her if she tried to go outside? But it wouldn't hurt to take a tour outside right?
Surely I can do that right?
"Well, whatever! He can't stop me from inspecting where I will be living from now on..." She concluded in her mind.
Laurel didn't cross the door. She felt it was safe to wander around the house first. Its furnishings were modest and of exquisite taste.
"So… he has taste…" Laurel clicked the roof of her mouth with her tongue. She was impressed at the beautiful designs that screamed rich but modest. The dull colors and high ceilings gave Laurel the impression that Lucas didn't appreciate intruders or visitors.
Laurel shook her head. Boss Lucas was one cold person. How then does he know such dull colors? She asked dryly, already knowing the answer to her questions.
Something caught her attention. She settled at the side of the stairs. The design on its walls was so colorful and beautiful. It was unlike the other paintings in the house. They were dull and grey but this one right here was mesmerizing.
Laurel couldn't help but appreciate the art.
"Like what you see?"A husky voice asked.
Laurel whipped her head back so fast. When did he get down here? She scratched the back of her head to hide her shaking.
"I don't like it." She replied quickly.
Lucas nodded. It was what he expected her to say and he made her know that when he smiled knowingly. "Of course, you don't."
Laurel frowned, not liking his smile. It never reaches his eyes. Someone needs to tell him that his smile is so fake. "I thought you were taking a nap?"
Boss Lucas waved his hands, walking away into a room, Laurel had never noticed before. "With you gasping at every little piece? I couldn't sleep. I came to see what the commotion is all about."
Laurel stopped halfway. She wanted to know if she was welcome into the room or not. It looked like a study room. Its gray walls screamed back off.
Lucas turned. Only half of his face showed. "You tried to escape didn't you?"
Laurel shivered at the intensity of his tone. How did he know? She heard him ‘tsk', and watched as he went to sit at the table. With one of his legs firmly planted on the floor and the other leg placed on the table.
His gray pants tightened around his muscular thighs and...Laurel gasped. That creamy skin!
There was just something about him. His smile was too perfect, his voice, even his cold demeanor was all too perfect!
It took one look for Laurel to get moist in between her legs.
"Take a picture, it's going to last longer."
And that annoying voice of his! Laurel didn't fail to add that to his list of imperfectness.
"So what if I thought of escaping? I didn't, did I?"
"It is a good thing you didn't. I would have done the job myself." He shrugged.
Laurel snapped. She was getting angrier by the second. Standing at the entrance to what looked like his study made her look foolish. "Spoken like Boss Lucas…"
Suddenly, Lucas' phone beeped. He ignored her reply, proceeding to pick up the phone. "Silas?"
Laurel felt even more stupid as she felt Lucas heavy gaze on her face.
"She is here with me. You know I can't let her out of my sight for a second." He whispered seductively.
Laurel felt the heat at the tip of her ears. Damn those stupid ears. Betraying her poker face for a second!
"Inform the crew about the new changes. Make sure no one suspects anything. We won't be using the club for any emergency meetings. Tell that to Luis…"
Laurel zoned out for the umpteenth time. Was he a Mafia Lord? Well it all made sense since she walked in on him trying to kill an innocent man!
She huffed, making Lucas look at her with an eyebrow raised. He slowly dropped the phone.
"Is the big baby tired of staring?"
What!
Laurel saw red. "Did you just call me a baby?"
"I enjoy teasing you. Unfortunately, your cuteness isn't what I need as you walked in on me killing a traitor. Obey my rules and we are good."
Laurel folded her hands. Something told her she had better listen.
"You don't have the right to speak to me whenever you like and whenever I am in this room, you cannot enter, you cannot open my freezer, you cannot leave this house without my permission and you are certainly not allowed to make friends here, you cannot make noise here." He stands up, dusting the non-existent dust from his pants.
"Oh, is that all? Am I even allowed to take a piss? I am being held here against my will!" Laurel tried to argue but Lucas would hear none of it.
"It's for your good." He walks past her, stopping only to make his point clear.
Laurel fought hard to keep the malice out of her tone. She knew if she retorted it wouldn't end well. What could she do anyway?
"You've made yourself clear enough." Laurel nodded, looking at the floor. When she raised her head up, he was gone.
The breath she held came down quickly and the tears she held at bay suddenly came rushing down.
Why am I crying? Laurel asked. She tasted her tears, grimacing at its saltiness.
A bad odor filled her nose. She smelt the air and it took her a second to realize it was her. She felt embarrassed.
