Chapter 07
It didn't take long for Anna to arrive at the hospital, and she rushed to Lilian's side and held her hand tightly.
“Ma'am, why are you in the hospital? Are you sick? I couldn't sleep all night worrying about you, and just thinking about you in this hospital, my blood pressure rose and my heart weakened,” Anna said between sobs.
“Anna, calm down, I'm fine!” Lilian said as she watched her frown while wiping away her tears. “I'm not dead yet, but you can cry like that when I die, at least someone will be crying for me!”
Lilian thought Anna would laugh at her joke, but her crying grew louder.
“Ma'am, don't say that!” “Anna said between sobs, wiping away her tears every few seconds. ”For the kindness in your heart, you will live for many years! "She stared at Lilian, who held back her laughter at Anna's comical expression.
Lilian patted Anna gently on the shoulder, as if trying to stop a little girl from crying.
“All right... I'll live to be 100, just like you. But please stop crying, or the doctor will come here thinking I've died...” Lilian smiled, and Anna nodded immediately, holding back her tears.
Before she could say anything, Lilian walked toward the living room in the corner.
“Come here, sit down!” Lilian said, but she was distracted by the view outside the window.
Lilian saw the sky slowly brighten as the sun gradually appeared on the horizon. She imagined herself watching this sky from her new home, where she had chosen to live for the next few years—hiding from her miserable life in this country and her jerk ex-husband.
She had already chosen the place, but she needed to confirm that it was available for purchase, and she wanted to fly there immediately, leaving everything behind.
“Ma'am?” Anna's voice snapped Lilian out of her trance.
“Hm?”
“Why are you here if you're not sick?” Her expression seemed calm, but the concern in her voice was clearly noticeable.
Lilian didn't rush to answer; she walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa, and when she saw Anna sitting across from her, Lilian finally began to tell Anna about her divorce from Ethan.
“Aninha, Ethan and I have decided to separate!” Lilian paused to take a deep breath and tried not to cry again.
Anna needed a few seconds to understand what Lilian was trying to say. When she realized, her face darkened instantly.
“Huh? You and Ethan got divorced? What do you mean?” Anna's voice trembled as her body suddenly shook, too shocked by what Lilian had said.
“There's no need to be so surprised!” Lilian realized that no one who heard this news would believe it, including Anna. “You're my confidant, and you're the first person to know. Not even my grandfather or my parents know.”
Anna's face slowly turned pale as she saw the seriousness in Lilian's eyes.
“What are your plans now?”
“Well, since I've already signed the divorce papers, I'm going to move out.” Lilian replied casually, and there was no more sadness in her heart. She had already shed her sadness and tears for Ethan the night before.
Lilian will ensure that she has peace of mind to give birth and raise her baby without interference from the Legrand family. She would never reveal to them about her child. Never!
“I have plans to move to another country. And, Anna, I want you to come with me. Are you willing to follow me?”
Although Anna was surprised to learn that Lilian was planning to move to another country, she immediately nodded, agreeing to follow her. She could feel the warmth in her heart, knowing that Lilian would not leave her to stay with the Legrand family.
“Ma'am, you know my answer. Why bother asking?” Anna smiled at Lilian.
Since she was a teenager, Anna had worked for Lilian's grandmother, and when Lilian was born, she began to take care of her. She already considered Lilian her niece, her only family.
Anna had nowhere else to go; she had no family, so she followed Lilian wherever she decided to go.
“Thank you, Ana!” Lilian feels relieved. “And there's something I want to tell you... I'm pregnant!”
“W-WHAT? P-PREGNANT!?” Anna roared, shocked to hear this, and didn't expect to hear such good news from her. “Lilian, are you serious?”
“Hmm, it's true... Do you want to go with me to the gynecologist and obstetrician?” Lilian asked.
“Yes, of course, I want to!” said Anna, excited, but also confused.
Earlier, Lilian said that Ethan divorced her because she couldn't have children. But now she said she was pregnant. So why are they still getting divorced?
“But if you're pregnant, why are you getting divorced?” Anna asked, and Lilian sighed deeply.
“Anna, Ethan already has another woman to warm his bed,” Lilian replied with a smile. “And his wife is also pregnant...” Lilian continued telling Anna what she heard from the nurse. “So divorce was the only option to resolve everything, and I decided not to tell him about my pregnancy. I'm going to raise my child alone. And I hope you can help me!” Lilian said sincerely.
“I'll help you, ma'am, but did you believe what you heard before confirming whether the gossip was true?” Anna asked.
Lilian didn't answer right away, but her mind went back to the night before. At first, she doubted the rumors she had heard, which led her to investigate further, only to confirm that Ethan and Laura had visited the hospital the day before.
“I checked the rumors, and they were true...” Lilian kept smiling, although inside she was struggling to contain the pain that was now gnawing at her heart.
Anna feels so angry; how could Ethan do such a thing to a woman as good as Lilian?
Seeing Ana's sympathetic expression comforted Lilian, momentarily distracting her mind from the pain in her heart.
“It's okay, Ana. You don't have to look at me like that,” Lilian said calmly. "What Ethan did won't weaken me. Instead, I'll become stronger, and I've promised myself that I'll forget him.
Lilian couldn't finish her sentence when she noticed Anna running toward her and wrapping her in a hug.
“Lilian, I'm not crying because I'm sad, but because I'm happy that you included me in your plans. Thank you so much!” said Anna through tears of happiness.
Anna felt immense joy because she would fulfill her promise to Lilian's late grandmother to take care of her.
