Chapter 06
The next morning, Lilian opened her eyes, staring at the dark room and the unfamiliar ceiling.
She could only laugh bitterly as her mind replayed what had happened yesterday, which was undoubtedly the worst day of her life, and now she was in the hospital.
Trying to get up, she felt her whole body ache, and even the slightest movement made her bones feel like they were being crushed.
Enduring the indescribable pain that ran through her, she finally managed to sit up on the edge of the bed, and her gaze fell on the bedside table, where she saw her cell phone, a note, and a white envelope.
[Miss Arbex, your cell phone is fine. I've charged it for you. I hope it works.]
Lilian put the note back on the table and picked up her cell phone. Surprisingly, it was still working, and while she waited for it to charge, her attention was drawn to a white envelope, which she remembered not seeing before she went to bed.
A few moments later, she remembered what the nurse had said: the man who took her to the emergency room had left a message for her.
Lilian hurriedly opened the envelope and read the letter, and seeing how that person had written her name gave her goose bumps.
She was shocked.
[Hello Little Lily,
It's been a while since we last met. And here we are again in such a strange situation. I'm sorry. I can't wait until you wake up. You know, I have my duty to take care of, right?
Call me if you find this letter.
D.S]
Lilian read the letter over and over again. Just reading it made her want to face him and talk to him directly, and after yesterday's terrible day, this was the first time she had smiled openly, as if spring had arrived after winter.
It was hard to believe that Daniel Spector had helped her and brought her here, and their meeting this time was really strange.
After marrying Ethan Legrand, one by one, Lilian's friends drifted away from her life as she stopped contacting them to focus on her new life.
She needs to call him. However, her cell phone rang just before she dialed Daniel's number.
Lilian was surprised to see “Anna” appear on her cell phone screen, and answered immediately, but didn't have time to speak, as she heard Anna speak like a professional rapper.
"My God!! Ma'am, you finally answered my call. Where have you been? I've been trying to call you since yesterday, but I can't get through. Are you okay?“ Anna's voice sounded hurried and shaky. ”Miss Lilian, please answer me, huh!?“
”Anna, calm down.“ Lilian felt a warmth in her chest when she heard the panic in Anna's voice on the other end of the line. ”How could I talk if you won't let me answer?" She laughed.
Lilian feels so happy to be able to talk to someone. After all, Anna has been her nanny since she was a child, and when she married Ethan, Anna followed her to stay with her. In this world, Anna is the only person Lilian trusts the most.
The bond between them is very close; not even her parents are as close to her, as they are both busy in their own worlds.
“Ma'am, it's almost daytime, and you're not home yet!”
“I'll explain later...” Before Lilian could finish, she heard Anna ask again.
“Miss, are you with your... ”A pause hangs in the air, and Lilian couldn't help but smile; she knew what Anna wanted to ask, and her question seemed abrupt. “Are you with your husband?” Anna finally asked.
She knows that Ethan would never ask Lilian out on a date, but yesterday, he did.
“No... I'm alone. But don't worry, I'm in a safe place.” A bitter smile appears on Lilian's face before she answers. “Before I get back, I need a favor. Bring some clothes to Unimed Hospital, room number 2024...”
Lilian's words sound like thunder in Anna's ears.
Since the night before, Anna had feared that Lilian had been in an accident, and Anna's concern grew when she tried to call Lilian a few times, but her cell phone was off.
If the driver hadn't mentioned that Lilian was going home with her husband, Anna would have reported her missing to the police.
“Why are you at the hospital? Are you okay?” Anna couldn't finish her sentence, her mind filled with terrifying accident scenarios.
“Anna, I told you I'm fine, but I can't explain what happened to me right now. But I want you to come quickly. And don't tell anyone you're coming to meet me here!”
“Okay, ma'am!” Anna ended the call immediately and packed Lilian's clothes.
It was still dark outside when Anna called a taxi and rushed from the house to the hospital.
After talking to Anna, Lilian continued browsing her cell phone, checking her emails and text messages. However, she found only countless sales and marketing promotions.
Married to Ethan, Lilian had given up all her business ventures and lost touch with her college friends, and she rarely heard from them even now. Because of this, she truly hated herself for abandoning her dreams to focus exclusively on building a small, happy family with Ethan.
Her life had revolved solely around Ethan for the past four years. However, after everything she had done for him, she felt betrayed and humiliated by the divorce. How could he have another woman?
Lilian couldn't help but berate herself for her own stupidity.
