Chapter 05
Soon, the nurse returned to the room with the bag, and she immediately looked for her cell phone.
Lilian felt like crying because the phone wouldn't turn on, and she didn't know if the battery was dead or if the device was damaged from exposure to water.
“It's Lili, it looks like today isn't my day!” she said to herself quietly, taking another deep breath, feeling completely exhausted.
She lay down on the bed while touching her still flat belly.
A slight smile formed on her lips, as she felt that her pregnancy wasn't real, because she didn't feel anything growing inside her. However, she couldn't hold back the happy smile that slowly appeared at the corners of her lips. Although she felt hurt that Ethan had decided to divorce her without any prior discussion, she was willing to forgive him just for the sake of their child.
At least saving her marriage to Ethan could bring happiness to her family.
“Lilian, you still have a chance...” Hope sprouted in her heart, imagining Ethan giving her more attention and perhaps loving her more, as it was something she had always dreamed of after marrying him.
However, she needed to confirm her pregnancy before contacting him.
She couldn't face Ethan until she was sure, and she needed proof to talk to him.
“Miss Arbex, your room is ready.” After a few minutes, the nurse returned.
“Thank you!” Lilian smiled at the nurse and followed her after picking up her things.
As they walked down the hospital corridor, Lilian remained silent, preoccupied with her thoughts about her plan to contact Ethan.
He had blocked her number, and the saddest thing was that she didn't have the phone numbers of Ethan's personal assistant or driver, and she had no idea how to talk to him.
Lost in her thoughts, Lilian was suddenly distracted by the conversation of some women in the corner. In fact, there were three nurses sitting at the nursing station, not far from her, and she turned her gaze back to the hallway leading to her VIP room, ignoring the nurses.
“Hey, I have some HOT news!! Businessman Ethan Legrand is dating Joana Mercadante.”
“Are you talking about the up-and-coming model? Really?” asked a nurse in shock, and when she saw her friend nod in confirmation, she could only sigh in surprise.
“Could you two stop gossiping about celebrities?” said another nurse, glaring at them for talking nonsense.
“Yeah, we should stop gossiping. There's no way Ethan Legrand is dating Joana Mercadante, because I heard he already has a wife.” Another nurse said.
“Wife? But it was never in the media, and how could a man like him get married without a party or media coverage?”
“Hmm, you're right about that too. So, is it true that the news about his marriage is also gossip?”
“As far as I know, the Real group has never commented on it.”
Lilian heard clearly what the three nurses were saying, and could only control her emotions, no matter how angry and hurt she felt listening to them talk about Ethan and his other woman.
She lowered her head, staring at the floor, unable to walk.
“I'm not gossiping, but...” She paused, picking up her cell phone. “See for yourself, there's a news story saying that Joana Mercadante made an appointment with her gynecologist.” She handed over her cell phone. “And look who was with her? Ethan Legrand!”
“Oh my God! You're right.”
“Why are you shocked? You should be happy for them, right?” she said as she took the phone back and laughed at the candid photo she had taken that afternoon.
“Yes... yes... I'll ship them. The man looks so attractive and rich. And the woman looks so beautiful. Argh, I can't wait to see their child.”
“Yes, their children will definitely be very adorable, right!?”
“Stop talking! This is a hospital, not a café!” Suddenly, the head nurse appeared from behind the door and silenced everyone.
But Lilian didn't pay attention to anything else, only to the fact that Ethan had gotten another woman pregnant.
A look of surprise flashed across Lilian's eyes, but she remained calm, and although she felt that the news was a huge blow to her, she didn't know how to react, as the news had completely destroyed her hopes.
“Miss Arbex, this way...” The nurse who guided Lilian to her room was surprised by Lilian's pale face and, worried that she might faint again, held her hand.
Everyone covered their mouths, staring in shock at the hallway, unaware that there was a patient nearby.
After closing the door behind her, Lilian remained motionless, her mind reeling from the previous conversation.
“Is that why Ethan decided to divorce me because of that woman!?”
Countless questions tormented her mind, and for the second time, she felt devastated. It was too much for her to bear.
In just one day, Ethan had managed to vent all his emotions. She truly hated him!
Anger consumed her mind and soul, and Lilian felt her head spinning and her knees buckling.
She fell to her knees, beating her chest lightly, feeling as if something was stuck there, and the tears she had been holding back flowed incessantly, wetting her cheeks, and even though she tried to cry silently, her weak sobs echoed in the empty room.
Lilian lost track of time as she knelt on the floor, pouring out her sadness and fury, and when she tried to get up, her legs were numb.
“This is the last time I'll cry for him. From now on, he's no longer part of my life!” She swore angrily.
