Will you marry me? Cont.. Pt3

“I can’t believe that’s their daughter.” People would often say.

“Well, it’s a good thing they have Lucena! She is just amazing!”

This often-made Larna angry while full of envy and resentment. The envy only grew after the death of their parents. The bulk of the finances had been left to Lucena with a note saying, “We know you will do what is right.” This filled Larna with an over amount of bitterness and anger.

“How the hell could they leave her majority of the money! I was their oldest!!!”

After the funeral, Larna spent three days ranting and raving about their parents' will. After the passing of Lucena, Larna decided she would get what was owed to her one way or another through her niece.

“You’ll be my personal payback you little runt.”

So, from the moment Resena moved in, Larna made it her everyday mission to abuse and punish her niece as payback for her mother being favored.

“There has to be someone I can send this runt too that….”

Before she could finish her thought, Larna scrolled upon the name of Erick Steelwater, with a grin on her face, Larna lifted her tablet for a better view.

“He’s perfect.”

Delvoy lifted his head to find his wife smiling with a devilish glee of joy.

“I take it you found someone?”

Placing the tablet back onto the coffee table, Larna looked up at her husband and slid the tablet over. Putting his glasses on, Delvoy picked up the tablet and took a look at the person his wife chose. His eyes instantly bulked in surprise.

“Erick Steelwater? As in Charleston’s oldest son? I thought he was already engaged. Again.”

Erick Steelwater was a 28yr old noble. He was the oldest son of Charleston and Carlina Steelwater. Although handsome and rich, Erick had been engaged three times. Each time he got engaged; his fiancé would leave within a month of the engagement. This was because Erick was a cruel and abusive person. He grew up spoiled and entitled, he hated people who were poor, and he hated women who had opinions. He would often abuse his fiancés both physically and sexually to the point she would call the engagement off, but this never bothered him, He knew eventually he would marry someone as people were desperate to have the connections of the Steelwaters even if that met marrying their daughters off to such a horrid individual. The Steelwaters would be just the right kind of family to help expand the business, in addition to being nobles, Erick’s father started a trading company that became very successful. Yes! He would be the ideal person to marry Resena off too and the fact that he was notorious for his cruel behavior made him all the more appealing to Larna. She could hardly contain herself as she smiled at her husband knowing he would not care about his reputation but would be pleased about the business aspect.

“So? What do you think?”

Delvoy placed the tablet onto the table and looked up at his wife. It was very true, he did not care one bit about Erick’s cruel reputation, whatever happened to the girl was none of his concern. Afterall, she wasn’t his biological daughter or niece for that matter. He did, however, care about how this marriage would benefit him. Smiling back at his pleased wife, Delvoy simply said…

“Perfect dear.”

Back at the park bench, a man was standing staring at Resena as she slept.

“Is she homeless? She has several bags with her, not to mention her clothes look old and ragged. She must be homeless… right?”

Confused, the young man continued to stare at Resena, he was contemplating on whether he should wake her.

“Do I wake her up? She looks peaceful enough and I have no idea who she is. What if she’s some crazed person?”

The young man took a harder look at Resena, her hair had slightly fallen from her ponytail and onto her face, her lips were slightly parted almost into a smile.

“Maybe she’s dreaming of something pleasant. I don’t want to bother her.”

Looking up at the sky, the young man could see it was getting late. He grew concerned about the young woman’s safety.

“Dammit, I can’t leave her out here. It’s getting late, someone may decide to rob her or worse. Guess I’ll have to wake her up.”

Letting out a slight sigh, the young man decided it was best to wake Resena from her slumber. Lowering down to tap her shoulder, he whispered,

“I’m really sorry about this.”

Deep into a dream Resena could feel a light nudge to her shoulder, she smiled slightly thinking the nudge was a part of her dream, however, she could also hear what seemed to be a man calling to her.

“Hey, lady. Are you okay? She’s not moving. Maybe I should call an ambulance? Ma’am?”

Resena jolted up from her nap. Realizing she was no longer dreaming and someone in fact was tapping her shoulder, she began to panic.

“Oh my god!! Oh my god! What time is it?!”

Scrambling for her bags Resena had not yet noticed the man standing in front of her with a puzzled look on his face. She began gathering her bags and looking around as if to verify where she was.

“Oh my gosh! I didn’t mean to sleep this long! What time is it?!”

Just then, Resena raised her head to find the man standing before her, the one who must’ve woke her up. She quickly gathered herself and turned to the gentleman. Bowing her head slightly she looked at him and said in a lowered voice,

"Thank you so much for waking me up. I’m very sorry if I troubled you in any way. By any chance, do you know what time it is?”

Staring at the young woman for a moment, the gentlemen answered.

“Um, it’s about 4:30pm.”

At that moment, Resena dropped back onto the bench, the cleaner’s shop closed at 5:15pm and she was still 2 miles away. There was no way she would make it to the shop on time, which meant she would not be able to drop the clothes off. The thought of not completing her task struck instant fear into her mind. She knew her aunt and cousin would brand a particularly harsh punishment for not completing the task. Why did she have to fall asleep! Though it was true she had been exhausted from the chores she performed that day, she knew her aunt and cousin would not care one bit about her being tired. Knowing she would be punished, Resena began to cry.

"Umm, ma’am? Are you okay? If you were on your way to the shelter, I think they have a service that can pick you up. Would you like me to call and verify?”

The gentleman stood staring at Resena not knowing why she was crying and what he could do to help.
