A Chance
Evelyn's Point of View
My breath burst in and out as my gaze met the infamous Arthur Madison; his dark eyes pierced through me, sending a cold shiver down my spine. The application for my date of death had been successfully accepted, and I was done for... There was no way for me to run.
"Little thief, did you think you were going to get away after stealing from me?" His voice was dark and velvety, like rich, luxurious chocolate. I swallowed hard; he looked like a fictional man straight from a novel, his perfectly combed hair falling across his forehead, shadowing his eyes, and his rugged features adding to his dark charm.
Damn! I had always heard of how handsome he was, but seeing him in real life was another story; no wonder women would lay down their lives just to be with him.
I swallowed hard at the thought of such a hot guy being the one to take my life. I tried to open my mouth and defend myself, but my words got trapped in my throat.
I was the thief; I had stolen cars from his event. At this point, I had nothing to say.
Arthur lowered himself to my level and brought his gun to my face, raising my chin with it and making me meet his cold gaze.
"Do you have any last words?" His voice was low and menacing; a knot formed in my stomach, and the pain in my leg pierced through me as the bullet remained inside my skin.
"P... Please don't kill me..." I stammered, giving him my best puppy eyes. Surely it wasn't going to work on this stone-hearted man, but the least I could do was try to save myself.
Arthur let out a scoff, shaking his head. "You should have thought about this before you stole from me, little thief." His tone was stern. My stomach hardened, fear gripping my whole being.
"I... I can pay you back for all the cars I stole; please spare my life," I begged, trying to calm my ragged breath.
A smirk spread across his face, his eyes not leaving mine. "You have an hour to bring back all the cars you stole." I shut my eyes as his words sank in, letting out a deep breath.
An hour was enough to either return his cars or make an escape plan. If I failed to do either of those things, then I was as good as dead; this man was definitely going to murder me without a second thought.
"Take her away," Arthur commanded, and two guards rushed over to me, grabbing my arms from both sides and dragging me from one of the cars before throwing me inside like I was some kind of weightless luggage. They tied both my hands and feet, and the pain in my leg increased, cutting through my skin; it took everything in me to stop my sobs.
My parents would be so disappointed in me if I failed to escape. They thought their daughter was a graduate with a good job working from nine to five, but in reality, I was no accountant but a gangster, a thief. I never wanted them to be so disappointed in me; that's why I lied, but now I regret it. Maybe if I had looked harder, I could have found a good job; then I wouldn't be on the verge of death.
I would die like a dog; maybe he was probably going to feed my body to the sharks in the sea or the lions.
Tears welled up at the corner of my eyes at the thought. I swore that if I survived this, I wouldn't spare Jax and Amanda; they were going to regret ever being born.
I snapped out of my daze when the car halted, and the footsteps of the guards rushing over to the car and swung open the door echoed. They yanked the blindfold from my eyes and grabbed my arms, pulling me out of the car.
As I took in my surroundings, I realized I was in a farmhouse; tall trees towered over the wall house. Before I could even take note of an escape route, I was pushed into a room that looked more like a cage, and my breath caught in my throat as my gaze fell on the lions sleeping inside, a few steps away from me.
My whole body tensed, fear coursing through me. My worst fear was coming to life; these lions were going to make a meal out of me.
"You have thirty minutes left to bring back all the cars," I snapped my eyes to Arthur; he stood by the cage entrance, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"P... Please lend me a laptop or a cell phone," I stammered, trying to keep my cool. Being scared was definitely not going to help me get out of here.
Arthur let out a chuckle. "You think I'm a fool?" He raised his eyebrows, throwing a questioning gaze at me.
"So how the heck should I bring back your cars?" I snapped, only to regret it as soon as I realized what I had done.
Okay, fine!
I admit that I stole from him, but I'm not a fool to try anything stupid, especially with these lions surrounding me.
His gaze darkened, and I swallowed hard. "You'd better watch your tone, little thief, unless you want me to wake my lions up; they'd enjoy having you for lunch." He threatened, and it took everything in me not to roll my eyes.
"Bring a laptop," he instructed his guards, and in less than a minute, one of the guards rushed over to the cage and handed the laptop to Arthur. He swung the gate of the cage; I clenched my teeth as I rose off the ground and took the laptop from him.
I immediately opened it, and, switching it on, my fingers began working, trying the buttons.
I hacked both Amanda and Jax. I could only thank God because they hadn't left the country yet, and I let out a sigh of relief when I finally got their location. I was certain that they hadn't even sold all the cars yet; I still had a chance for survival.
"I've found your cars," I told him as I handed him the laptop. "Send your men to this location as soon as possible." He took the laptop from me, his gaze not leaving mine.
"If you play a little game with me, there will be hell to pay," he threatened before he shut the gate of the cage and walked away.
I just prayed that they would get the cars, or else my life was over.
