Chapter 7
Alpha Jack POV
“Control yourself, are you planning on hitting the king?” My wolf suddenly said to me, knocking some senses back into my head.
I sighed and released my fist but I still didn’t take my father’s hand. Where had he been all my life when I was getting bullied?
“Jack, you must hate me, I know. But you can’t say that I didn’t try to look for you. I’ve been searching all over the ends of this world trying to find you but our link, our link was broken.” He said feebly and broke into a fit of coughing.
“I don’t think I have much time left to tell you the full story but all I can say is that I am sorry. Please take your training seriously and take good care of this pack. The rogues are ferocious but I know you are strong and can fight them.”
I dropped to my knees as tears welled up in my eyes. I had lived all my life with no parents. Why do I have to lose my dad on the day I find out about him? This was not fair, no matter if I lived my life as a werewolf or a human it seemed like I was destined to be an orphan.
I gave up my anger and started to howl at my father’s feet. It sounded so much like a wolf that it scared me, a part of me was still struggling to accept that fact.
“It’s alright Jack. It’s time to accept who you are.” My father said, purring very calmly. It seemed to me that he was in pain, I could feel it. What happened to him?
He stretched his hand out again. This time I didn’t hesitate to take it, I was begging him within me not to leave me and from the connection I was feeling with him I could sense that he also didn’t want to leave me but however he looked he was badly injured.
“Who did this? Was it a wild animal?” I asked but he shook his head,
“People think I was attacked by rogues but that’s not the case, this… this was done by the masters of the sky the dragon…” before he could finish that sentence he trailed off and went stiff.
I touched his body in panic, “d… dad?” Even those words sounded new to me
“Alpha Julius! Alpha Julius!” Beta Ivan screamed but it was too late my dad was gone.
I was devastated, I couldn’t put myself together, I couldn’t speak or react. All I did was howl like a wolf in distress because that’s what I was. Beta Ivan tried to give me some space to mourn my father but after a while he got a few men (who I would later get to know as warriors of our pack) to put me out of my father’s room and into a new room.
“Alpha Jack, you have to get dressed and get ready to meet the whole town. We will be mourning our king and unveiling the new king which is you. You need to freshen up and get dressed in your royal clothes quickly.”
“Who are you?” I questioned the young man who was about my age, we were similar in height and stature though I was taller and bigger.
“I am Warren, your beta.” He replied. I didn’t understand what a beta was and wanted to snap but he understood my frustration. Maybe it was the mind link beta Ivan had spoken about.
“Beta is the second in command. It’s like a vice president in the human world.”
My eyes lit up for the first time since this ordeal, “have you lived in the human world before?
“Yes, when we were searching for you, we lived in the human world and learned their ways.” Beta Warren replied.
“And how long have you been searching for me?” I asked again.
“Your father has been searching since you were a pup but I only joined the search 5 years ago.” He explained it to me.
I was beside myself with worry, wondering how I went missing in the first place. This time too my beta heard me and answered,
“I’m not sure how it happened but I am told that your mother kidnapped you and took you far away into the human world to hide you from your father.” He answered.
This piqued my curiosity, why would my mother do that?
“She felt betrayed by your father, her fated mate at that time. She was a great luna of our pack and loved your father dearly but your father cheated on her and made her unhappy. She escaped with you as a pup to teach him a lesson.” After saying that, beta Warren stared at the floor as if to avoid my gaze. “It is wrong to speak ill of the dead. Let’s not talk more about your parents. Please get into the shower and let the servants dress you. In a few seconds, we will be paying respects to the late king and will begin the process of finding your mate.”
“Mate? What mate?” I found myself grumbling. “What is that for?”
“Your mate is your suitable partner chosen by the moon goddess to help you lead this pack.” He replied, leading me to the bathroom.
“I just got here, the last thing I want is a mate. I won’t marry anyone I don’t know.” I barked. I couldn’t stop purring out of displeasure. Beta Warren looked like he didn’t want to argue with me, he only nodded and gently pushed me into the shower,
“Take your bath first, everything else will be discussed later. For now, we must pay respects to the king.”
As he closed the door all I could think about was Marie, she may be human but I felt within me that no one else would suit me better than her.
