Chapter 4
Accused and rejected
I got dragged into the interrogation hall and roughly dumped on the ground. My face was drenched in tears as I hysterically looked around the full room.
The pack elders were all here. And then the high-ranked Beta descendants and the high-ranked Gammas. There was also a dew of the pack member and then most importantly…
“Thank you,” he said to the guards who dragged me in. His terrifying voice was uncannily calm right now. But I still had goosebumps running down my body as I got awfully aware of his presence in the hall.
Adrian. He was sitting on his Alpha seat, looking down at me with eyes that held a fake dose of sadness. Probably he was putting on a show for everyone gathered here.
But I knew him too well to believe his façade. Staring deeper into those blue eyes of his, I could see the haughtiness in them. Cold, sinister, and haughty.
At that point, I knew I wasn’t safe. Whatever this was, I wouldn’t be able to get out of it unscathed. Not when he had his monster mode on. Not when he was covering it up with a perfect, gloomy expression.
Whatever situation this was, Adrian was in control of it. And what’s worse was that he seemed to have already convinced every single person in this hall right now.
“I’m so sorry I had to gather you all on such short notice but I couldn’t keep quiet anymore. Not when my mate has done something very abominable.”
Wait, what? What did I do?
The elders muttered between themselves, giving me distasteful and spiteful stares. They looked like they wanted to tear me into pieces. If only I knew my offense.
“I thought I could keep it in the wraps forever. I loved her so much and never wanted to lose her. I thought that would be enough to save her. But right now, I’m not so sure keeping quiet is the best thing to do anymore.”
Each word he said drove me into a more intense panic. Tears clogged my vision as I awaited to hear what this situation was about.
“I hate to break it to you all, but my mate has been cheating on me for the past six months now…”
“What?!” I shrieked in disbelief, struggling to get on my feet. But I couldn’t. What was he saying? I cheated on him? Wasn’t it the other way around?
“And what’s worse is that a few days ago, I found out that she’s pregnant. Now I was gonna be happy about it, but not until she confessed it belonged to her lover…”
I was stupefied. Gobsmacked! My tongue was tied. It was impossible to believe the amount of lies he was weaving and how perfectly he was delivering them.
“You don’t wanna imagine how heartbroken I was when I heard that. I lost my cool and I raised my hand on her. I hit her for the first time and I’m very ashamed to admit it. I shouldn’t have. I know better. I solely regret it” he broke into a fake sob which sounded so real, my goddess!
“Ad…Adrian…”
“How dare you say his name, you promiscuous woman?!” The oldest elder yelled at me and spat in my direction. “You’re an abomination!”
“Yes…” everyone else chorused in agreement. And then they loudly began slandering me.
All of that didn’t matter. I was just staring at the man I’ve loved all my life wondering how he could coldly drive me to my death like this.
Why was he setting me up this way? Was he angry? Because I didn’t abort the child? Did he wanna be with Jacelyn so bad that he was getting rid of me in the worst way possible?
But…but…how he does not feel any bit of remorse? How?
“The worst part is that she went to see the doctor and was going to abort the baby. I think she met her lover before that, I don’t know. But he left her a note. A get-well-soon note. It seems they didn't wanna keep the child…”
My eyes widened. Wasn’t it the letter Dr. Flinchbsaid was from the MAN who saved me? Was that a lie? Did he give me that to implicate me? Was he in on this with Adrian?
“Check her. She might still be with the note.” Adrian ordered. One of the guards approached me and roughly dug into the pocket of my pants.
The crumpled piece of paper came into sight and the guard handed it over to the elder. His eyes popped as he read the content quietly then passed the paper to the next elder and the next, all of them having disgusted expressions after reading.
“I wouldn’t have known about it if Dr. Flinch hadn’t informed me. And I thank him for not indulging in her request for an abortion. Killing an unborn child is the most inhumane thing to do.” Adrian continued. And then it dawned on me.
Dr. Flinch was in on this too. Either wholeheartedly or he got threatened, but he helped Adrian in ruining me this way, leaving me with zero reputation.
So does that mean the stranger never left me any note? Did Dr. Flinch make that up, to implicate me like this? How could he be so devilishly malicious, like Adrian?
“Now…” Adrian stood, straightening himself. “I hope you all understand my decision to reject her as my mate and take the Luna title from her…”
“No, Adrian, please…” I cried out but he wasn’t paying any attention to me.
“I can’t be with her anymore. A cheater and a woman cold blooded enough to wanna kill an innocent child. I can’t be with her anymore. I hope you all understand and forgive me for this decision.”
Everyone muttered their approval to his decision.
“She should be banished out of the Pack!” One of them yelled. The others nodded in agreement. The elders clamored for my banishment.
Adrian shook his head with a fake doleful, sigh. “I think that’s too harsh. For now, she’ll be kept in the dungeon. Tomorrow, we’ll decide on what to do.”
“That’s perfect, Adrian.” The oldest elder commended.
I was an ocean of tears and when the guards dragged me off to the dungeons all I could do was weep silently.
How did I get here? How did I get so wrapped up in Adrian’s carefully thought-out manipulative games?
I got locked up in a small and cold cage. A few minutes later, I heard familiar footsteps approaching me. Don’t blame me for even knowing the peculiar sounds of his footsteps.
When you’re in love with someone, you tend to learn every little detail about them. That was my case with Adrian.
He appeared in front of my cage, with a blank stare. And then he broke into a dark chuckle. “How does it feel to go against me, honey?”
“How could you?” I whispered between sobs, holding the bars of the cage. “What did I ever do to you to deserve this level of animosity?”
“You should have gotten rid of the child. Then maybe I wouldn’t have to ruin you like this. But you didn’t. So I had to show you just how bad it gets when you defy me.”
Tears fell endlessly from my eyes. “The child is yours and you know that.”
“Yes. That’s why I have every right to want it gone. And it’ll be gone. Tomorrow, I’m sending you to the servants’ hood. “
“What?!” Getting banished was a better fate than being sent to the servants’ hood. It was a terrible place where the lowest omegas(outcasts) were kept. They’re tortured and slaved and most of them die from starvation and the amount of suffering they go through there.
“I would never survive there with my baby.” I pointed out.
“Yes, precisely why I’m sending you there. Since you didn’t wanna get rid of the baby professionally. You’ll get rid of it painfully when they put you through hell.”
“Adrian, please. Don’t do this.” I dropped to my knee, begging pathetically. “Don’t send me there…”
“You’re going there, Mia. That’s a fact. And don’t worry about your Luna position, Jacelyn will take good care of it. After all, she’s carrying my heir.”
Time came to a stop. The whole world went static. It was just his last words going on a loop in my head. Jacelyn was pregnant. For him.
Was that why he so badly wanted me to get rid of my child? For hers?
He smirked sinisterly. “I know right now, you’re wishing that car really knocked you down and you died. Because baby, death is a better fate than the hell awaiting you at the servants’ hood.”
The accident…I needed to get one thing clear.
“The stranger didn’t leave a note, did he?”
