Chapter 4
Esmeralda’s pov (Five years ago)
“Mommy, Noah won’t help me with my homework.” My daughter with her stunning blue eyes walked into the room, raising a page of her workbook which had been unfilled.
I was busy on my laptop and attending to a call at the same time, but when she crawled into my arms, I Invitingly let her into my embrace.
“Hold on a moment, Mr. President.” With that, I placed the President of North America on hold just to attend to my daughter.
“Nora darling, Mommy is working, okay? Noah will help you with your homework, he just has to finish his first.”
“No Mommy. I’m not helping her anymore. She doesn’t learn, she just plays while I do all the hard work.”
Esmeralda was startled seeing Noah appear before her. They had been doing that a lot. Sneaking up on her. Slowly, as they grew, they had naturally began to master their powers. It was too obvious to a point, she had to get them homeschooled when reports of their violence and abnormal behaviors flooded her mails from their last school.
As she had been living in the humans’ world, cutting off contacts with the werewolf world, she decided to give her children the best possible training ever and to ensure they lived normally, but the blood of an Alpha ran through their veins, and that was something she couldn’t control.
“You know what…” She smiled as she settled Nora down so she could hold both her children in her arms. There was a proud smile as she looked at them. They Looked so much like him, many times they reminded her of him, but not once had she taken out her anger and hate for him on them. It was never their fault. In fact, she had gown to love them, spoiling them to the point that she couldn’t keep them out of her sight.
Currently, they were doing their homework in the room adjourning to her office when Nora had come crying to her.
“Mommy still has to work some ore. But Nora, Noah is going to help you with your homework”
“But Mommy…”
“And Nora, you have to listen to him while he teaches you because he won’t help you next time…”
“But Mommy…”
“If you two behave till we get back home, I’ll buy you ice cream on the way.”
“Mommy, I want strawberry!” Nora’s eyes instantly lightened up as she jumped excitedly at the thought of ice cream.
“Mommy, can I just have some new books?” Noah asked
Esmeralda gave him a look. “You’re already done reading the ones I got you?”
He nodded and she shook her head in shock and amazement. “Fine, Fine. Mommy will get you what you need. Now you two should leave Mommy to work okay.”
“Okay Mommy!” They both said in unison but Esmeralda wasn’t having it.
“No, promise me. Promise Mommy you won’t interrupt her again.”
“What’s interrupt?” Nora cocked her head to the side with a cute, curious expression on her face.
“It means ‘to bother’ She’s saying she shouldn’t bother her anymore.” Noah beat me to it as he replied proudly and I smiled affectionately at them as Nora stared at him in awe.
“Good job Noah.”
However, I still made them promise me and they soon went back to the room.
I finally finished my call with the president, closing the deal of 144$ billion dollars. It was already noon when I was done. As the CEO of the biggest tech corporation, my schedule on weekdays were very tight. Many of my employers, including my closest friend and P.A, Margret had advised me to take a break, but I couldn’t.
My past marriage to Adrien had left me so heartbroken and damaged that despite the therapy I went to, I still had to submerge myself in work just to be busy, just to forget everything.
I had been keeping in touch with Lizzy. Last I heard from her about Adrien was when he had remarried Diane. They had a girl now who was about my twins’ age.
That was I needed to hear after which I completely cut off contact. He seemed happy with his new life and I didn’t want to hear anymore. I her tell him I had died during labor along with my children when I discovered he was out for me when he found out I was pregnant.
Suddenly, a call came through from Margret, pulling me out of my reverie. Brushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear, I answered the call.
“Miss Montana? Should I reschedule the meeting you have with Mr. Agreste by 4:00pm?”
I suddenly remembered I had a lunch meeting with a Mr. Agreste, a powerful Billionaire who commanded millions of companies underneath him. Many business had been dying to sign a deal, but surprisingly, he had requested a meeting with me personally to sign a contract deal with my company.
And that happened to be today.
“That’s right. Rent out the most expensive restaurant in the city and have the chef’s prepare the best meal, I’ll join him soon.”
“Alright.” She replied with a knowing sigh knowing I had overworked myself too much already but knew I wouldn’t listen to her if she advised me to reschedule.
After rearranging my hair in a neat knot, leaving two neat strands running from each side of my forehead, down to curve against my cheek, I readjusted the suit gown I had on. It was actually a chiffon shirt tucked into the waist of a pencil skirt that accentuated my curves well.
I touched my make up a bit. After having my P.A get my twins lunch and reassuring them I would be back, I left them under her care and left to attend the meeting.
As I walked into the restaurant, my movements slow paced yet steady with confidence and authority I had practiced over the years, I noticed I had arrived first.
Just when I was about calling to one of the staffs to ask about Mr. Agreste, I heard a voice behind me. “Esmeralda.”
That voice. All the hairs on my neck instantly stood up, and I felt a sense of chill run down my spine just as my hands turned to tight fists to keep my body from trembling.
Even If it had been five years, I would recognize that voice anywhere. “Adrien…” I breathed.
