Chapter 3
Adrian’s pov
I felt like the happiest man on earth as I woke up the next morning knowing I had Diane in my arms. She slept soundly and peacefully in my arms, probably from last night.
A knowing smirk crossed my lips as I kissed her one last time before I reluctantly left her side to go look for Esmeralda. After what she had done last night, it seemed I’d have to set some rules again. She was still my mate, yes, but Diane was my first mate, my true mate and not just someone I married for inconvenience.
Diane was pregnant with my child.
Esmeralda had no right to blame me for anything.
With clenched jaw, I marched right over to her room before knocking. However, to my surprise, the door slid open, evident that it hadn’t been locked, which was unlike her.
I walked into the room and what greeted me was a stillness. Her scent was gone. She hadn’t even sept in this room. With a growl, I tore her wardrobe open but I didn’t even see her clothes. She had packed everything. She had left.
“She left right when you were with Diane upstairs…” I turned to see Ray leaning against the door with folded arms. I was speechless for the first time in my life, not even knowing what to say.
A blank wave of emotion surrounded me. She had known we were together last night. She used that chance to leave?
“She seemed oddly calm about the whole issue though,” He approached me with something in his hand, and my blood ran cold seeing the ring in his hand. The same ring I had promised to Diane but had slid on Esmeralda’s finger Instead.
“Why do you have that?” I didn’t even know my voice came out as a shocked whisper until he frowned,
“Why do you look so shocked? You should be relieved she was sensible enough to leave it behind. She could never win, Adrien. When Diane is involved, she knew she had to back out.”
I took the ring and left the room wordlessly. She backed out, but where? I knew Esmeralda lost her dad and home when she had moved in with me. She had nowhere to go. Where could she have gone now?
Upon realizing I was getting worried over someone who tried to hurt my Diane, I scoffed and went downstairs. As long as she realized the consequences of her actions last night, then I had no business with her. She was a beautiful woman, she’d certainly catch the interest of anyone who would take her in.
After all, I never took her out to conventions, meetings or any public gathering so not much people knew I was even mated.
As I got downstairs, my brows twitched seeing the maids cleaning up the mess from last night. “Where is Amelia?”
At the sound of my voice thundering across the room, everyone had their head lowered, shaking visibly in fear before Amelia, the head maid finally emerged.
With her head bowed, she stammered “Y- Yes, your graciousness.”
“You had all night to clean up this mess, what if my mate had gotten hurt this morning huh? What would have done? And how come so many meals were prepared last night? Do I pay you to act as incompetent fools?”
Amelia bowed again. “Your Gracious, It was Luna Esmeralda who had gave us all the night off so we had all been at the quarters till this morning. She had also been the one to prepare the meal herself.”
“What? Why?” I blinked in surprise.
“She seemed… oddly happy yesterday and had been expecting your return,” My blood stilled flowing at her words as the realization began to settle.
“She… had been to one to arrange my room as well?” I asked in a soft voice. In our state of pleasure yesterday, I had only noticed the major decorations but hadn’t thought much of it till now.
“Yes, your Alpha.”
That was why she was dressed like that last night. I could even picture her face full of excitement, her eyes gleaming with happiness as she ran down the stair to welcome me. What had it been she wanted to tell me? Was it that important?
Realizing I was disturbing myself with the thoughts of her, I ordered the maids to continue and went back up stairs.
I and Diane had an appointment with Doctor Lizzy, fixed by Ray and it happened to be today. It was a prenatal.
Diane and I, both well-dressed held arms we took our respective seats in front of the doctor. Many time I noticed the cold, seething gaze she threw at Diane at the side but I didn’t care. I knew she was Esmeralda’s Gynecologist and best friend and might have questions but it wasn’t in her place to ask any questions.
“You can come back next Monday for your next appointment.” Lizzy finally said after a long while of checkup, finally sitting down. “You may leave.”
“Doctor, isn’t Monday a bit too close for the scheduled next appointment?” Diane calmly asked, her hands coming to curl around my arm.
Lizzy glanced up and her cold gaze settled on the arm before she sneered. “You might as well just let the baby die in your womb then.”
“Elizabeth, I don’t care what your relationship with Esmeralda is, I will not have you insult my mate.”
Lizzy chuckled coldly. “Your mate? Seriously? What about Esmeralda.”
“A mate with no child for Eight years. She’s useless to me.”
Her brows suddenly creased to form a frown. “I don’t understand, she didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
Diane also seemed curious to what she had to say.
She suddenly reached out for some files and handed it to us, and as I went through it, my blood ran cold as the realization n suddenly hit me.
“She’s three months gone already. I didn’t give her the X-ray scan. I thought you were coming with her Instead so I wanted to share the news to you both. She’s pregnant with twins.”
“Adrien…” Ray tried to speak up, but soon had his back against the wall, gritting his teeth in pain.
“Where. Is. She?” My voice was dark as my broody expression.
“I sent your men spread across all packs. There has been no sight of her. It’s like she disappeared from the surface of the world.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit. Esmeralda is still out there somewhere. Find her. Find her now!” My voice boomed across the whole room, shaking the pack house.
Ray looked pale despite his restraint as he left the room.
Slowly, with both hands in my hair, I slid to the floor. There, in front of me was a picture that had fallen to the ground during my rampage this afternoon.
It was a picture of me and Esmeralda on the day we graduated high school. Diane hadn’t attended the after party so it was just me and her.
With shaky hands, I reached out and clutched the picture to my chest. Without realizing, tears had begun rolling down my eyes down to the picture.
“We looked so young… “I brushed my fingers across her face. “She looked so happy. I did this. I ruined everything. If anything happens to her, it’s my fault. I don’t care what it takes Esmeralda, I will find you, and when I do, I’ll never let you out of my sight again.”
